This was a lovely campsite that we would recommend. We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed the peace and quiet. We had plenty of space as it was very quiet our children loved being able to cycle around the site.
The facilities are all adequate only downside was no freezer available for ice blocks. The campsite was perfectly flat and right next to the pentewan cycle trail which takes you off road all the way to Pentewan.
This is a one man band campsite and the owner does all the work himself. The site layout is lovely and well maintained. Although there really is no shop to speak of and the play area is a little derelict (but kids loved it).
Prices seemed a little high for the facilities available but we loved it and felt we were paying for the huge amount of space we had and a slightly rickety picnic table(always useful when camping).
For days out would recommend Wheal Martin china clay museum and country park has a lovely cafe and lots for the kids to do.

If your looking for a peaceful and tranquil holiday Penhaven is the perfect place for you. The scenery is wonderful, the location is not too far from all facilities. A beautiful walk through the woods near to the river takes you into Pentewan village and beach. Mevagissey fishing harbour is only about 2 miles away. The site itself is run by the very friendly owner, who makes you feel very welcome when you arrive. The site has recently been updated with new shower blocks, which are kept clean and are of a very good standard. There is a play area for the children, so that you can keep an eye on them. The shop could do with being open more often though and having a bit of a face lift, but overall I would strongly advise a holiday here.

Our first camping trip as a family with 4 young children, so don't have much to compare it to. I have to say though, I was overall pleased.
The owner was very friendly, above and beyond the call of duty really. It seems that he really does work hard there though, and had been let down by a few people, meaning that there were a few problems on the site:
The outdoor pool was freezing, as the heating had broken. I did not go in, too cold for me, but the kids did; albeit not for too long.
The washing machines were broken, and the person who was supposed to fix them was unavailable or something. Not too much of a drama, as there was one in St Austel, so we used that.
The shower block was very clean and spotless. I did have to queue a little, as there was only two, but we were in no rush that day, so not too bothered. There is a lovely new block, it was supposed to have opened by now, but again, the plumber let him down. I peaked in though the window, and it looks lovely in there; shame it was closed during our stay!
The park could do with updating; I doubt it would pass current H&S inspections, but the kids were oblivious to it, and had fun on it anyway. There is a slide, a baby swing, two kids swings, a climbing frame and some little bouncers that really do need replacing.(Watch out for the bench at the pool too, as it is on its last legs, and if I were the owner, I would remove it, as it is about to collapse!)
I paid £200 for the week, which I thought was a lot actually, compared to some other places, but it was all we could get as we booked last minute. That was for a large tent though. I don't know; maybe that is reasonable for a week in Cornwall in August.?
The pitch was spacious, no problems there, did not feel crowded in or anything. Grass was cut often too. A very pleasurable experience in all. No noisy club house or anything, nice and relaxed. Really enjoyed it. Would recommend this site; just check the laundry and pool are working!

We have come here for the last three years.
It's a flat site, with good sized pitches. As there's no bar or restaurant, it tends to be families with younger children, and people without children using the site - no gangs of marauding teenagers lurking about! Which is great for us, as this, plus the layout means that our children (aged 5 & 7) are able to play safely - but can be seen from the caravan, giving them the illusion of freedom, and us peace of mind!
The owner tends to run the site mainly on his own, so if he's not in the shop, you have to find him on site - usually mowing the grass. He normally guides new arrivals to their pitch on his bicycle.
However, things are starting to look a bit tired, and run down; the pool could do with some attention, and although the showers and toilets are clean, the 'extra facilities' that are open during the high season are definitely in need of refurbishment. The family washroom isn't as nice as it used to be. That said, the water's always hot and plentiful.
There's a lovely walk through the woods (or swamp as it was during the horrendous rain storms) to Pentewan village and the beach there; and you can also walk the other way up to the village of London Apprentice - where there is a small shop, with a very grumpy owner!

Nice roomy pitches - we were right next to the swimming pool which meant it was a bit noisy at times with unsupervised screaming kids, but on the other hand we were away from traffic noise and well placed to nip in for a dip when it was empty, so overall we were pleased with our pitch. It's a good sized pool and quite pleasant although due a bit of attention in places. In fact that goes for the facilities overall - everything is in working order and sufficiently clean, but would benefit from a little renovation here and there.
The owner has a dry sense of humour and really is as pleasant and helpful a chap as you could wish to meet. However since he runs everything with (as far as I could tell) just one assistant he is a bit overstretched at times. Hence catching the shop open is luck of the draw, and getting hold of the owner if you need him can mean conducting a search of the site; he always seems to be around somewhere though.
Overall a nice location - it's on a main road which was very busy with fast traffic when we were there (peak season) but at the back of the site there is a stream, woodland walks and a footpath/cycleway providing pleasant traffic-free routes to Pentewan and St. Austell.
At Pentewan (a short bike ride or a good walk away) there is the Ship Inn, a dog-friendly pub with good food and good beer. About a mile up the road towards St. Austell is a big camping / fishing / leisure supplies store. In the same vicinity is a small convenience store and a decent fish and chip shop (a fish and chip van also visits the campsite but we missed its visit so can't pass judgement).

Nice roomy pitches, clean shower's/toilets as has been said site seems to be run by just the owner who is very friendly and really helpful. He even picked me up some milk when the shop was closed and brought it at 11 pm at night bless him. The site I would say is a little tired but it is a nice walk away from Pentewan Sands so you could use their facilities if you want more. We didn't use the pool but I can't say it looked very tempting and the play area was more suited to tots.

My partner and I, along with my parents (in their own touring caravan) stayed for 13 nights. The owner was pleasant and helpful when we arrived, giving us the largest information pack I've seen! The sites were mowed regularly and the pitches were good. Some tent owners were a little upset that they could not put the tents one behind the other but were told that this contravened fire regulations. Can't argue with the many modern regulations if an owner is to keep their licence. The playground was clean and tidy and even had an enclosed trampoline. Shame we'd no-one young enough to try it out (we were tempted).
The toilet/ shower block was clean and sweet smelling, with free hot showers and a laundry room with free hot water for handwashing. The washing machine was £3, which included detergent, and our clothes were lovely and clean. The tumble dryer was 20p a go but cost about £2 to dry a large load. There were two outdoor clothes airers but we had to dodge the showers. Opening hours for the shop were rather hit and miss, depending on what job the owner was doing :-). He was open for morning papers and was happy to save my dad's favourite. The tortoise sanctuary was excellent and there's an good nature trail leading to Pentewan. We took three dogs and were pointed in the direction of a large field to exercise them, which they loved and had a great time chasing the rabbits :-). No dogs allowed on Pentewan beach, unfortunately, but there's plenty of scope on the nature trail.
There are some nearby kennels taking day boarders in order for us to visit the wonderful Eden Project up the road. Pencarrow is superb with off lead areas for the dogs to play. Food is a little pricey but good quality. Lots of other places to visit but the weather stopped much of that.

Campsite is large and spacious and well positioned just a short walk/ride from beach right on national cycle route. Note route to Mevagissey is hard work for occasional bikers and very steep on downslope. My son fell off and the only A&E in Cornwall is in Truro, no fun on a Saturday night in August! Pool is nice but could do to be heated more, kids got very cold very quickly and pool area is shaded by trees, also means leaves in the pool. Shop is okay but basic but as the owner seems to run the place single-handed you can spend some time waiting for him to open up. Main wash block is good. Avoid the smaller toilet/shower units close to the outer tent fields. These were dirty and many of their facilities didn't work. For shopping ASDA in St Austell is good and not too far. Mevagissey is a short drive, or long bike ride, but pretty fishing village with plenty of tourist shops.

I liked this site. It was run by one chap and he was constantly siting people, opening the shop, emptying the bins etc. The pitches were spacious, flat and large. The pool was fine for the kids and the shop ideal for the basics. My only problem was with the showers. If you had a shower for longer than 4-5 minutes the shower would flood and you had to be careful where you placed your clothes. Nice site for a long weekend and the adjoining cycle/woodland walk is ideal for active cyclists/dog walkers.

First impressions were not good, the note on the office door said the manager was working in the pool area, this was found to be empty, and had apparently been so since May , which we were not informed of when we booked the week previous, however, after that slight disappointment, the rest of the site couldn't be faulted. Helpful owner, choice of flat pitches, clean toilets, well maintained site (apart from pool ! ). Only 1 mile from beach at Pentewan, and a decidedly quieter site than the one on the beach at Pentewan Sands. A little peace and tranquility, but ideally situated. Would go again.
