Me and my partner have just returned from our first visit to the lake district and we had a brilliant time.
Cove Park is a good campsite if you don't need 5* facilities. The site only has a toilet/shower block, a children's basic play area and a field to walk your dog.
When we arrived the warden was really nice and friendly and he showed us to our pitch, which was right next to the bins and the shower block. This was both good and bad. Good in the sense that we didn't need to use the portable toilet we had and we did have far to go for a shower, but bad because it was very noisy at night and the light of the shower block lit up the tent all night. Most nights were quiet from about 11:30pm till 7am but on two nights the noise went on till about 1am.
The shower and toilet block is very basic and in my opinion could have been better maintained and cleaner. 20p for a shower was acceptable but the shower cubicles were very small and right next to the door, making them a little cold. For 20p you do get a long hot shower, but with only 2 showers I was queuing for about 20 to 30mins.
There are facilities to wash up which is handy and a washing machine if your prepared to pay £4 a load. The Childrens play ground was very small but looked well kept. The dog field I didn't like and neither did my 9 month old cocker spaniel he got lost in the thick grass and wouldn't go in there again so we walked him either round the site or down the road.
The site has no shop, and to get your shopping you need to go to Morrisions at Penrith or the The Ullswater Camp site has a shop that's normally open from 8am to 8pm for milk and basic supplies.
Although the campsite is basic (when you go camping what do you except my husband tells me) it was friendly, the views are amazing and after a long day out whats 20p for a hot shower?
We went to Penrith which is worth a look around and the Morrisons is quiet large. Keswick which I thought was amazing so we went there twice, its so dog friendly- nearly every shop allows you take your dog in. We went to the Dog and Gun for a coffee with Benji our dog and he was made welcome with a pack of dog treats. Then we went to Carlisle and that's was a fun day shopping and again we had Benji. The drive to Ambleside through the Mountains was amazing if not a bit hair raising at times and Pooley Bridge is a nice day out to.
The local Inn on the main road to the campsite takes dogs but is very fancy and very expensive so we ended up going to the Crown Inn in Pooley Bridge. The food was amazing and the service was so quick.
Aira Force Waterfall is well worth a look but beware the National Trust charge £4 for 2 hours when if you travel a bit further round the back of the waterfall there's a small carpark that leads to the falls but is free.
All in all I would recommend this site

Just returned from a 5 night stay at Cove Park. Although the Lakes had suffered torrential rain the week before our arrival, the wardens on site had done their best to accommodate tents on pitches which weren't too boggy. We stayed on a gravel pitch next to the kids playground-probably the best pitch with all the mud around!
Saying that the toilets & shower block were spotlessly clean & well maintained. The washing up facilities were under cover with plenty of hot water. The washing machine & tumble drier was also welcome (my kids used all their clothes in the 1st 2 days due to the mud on the playground - but they definitely had a good time playing there!)
A quiet site. Everyone adhered to the 'quiet after 10. 30 pm rule'. No shop on site, but this was a plus (it saved us money not buying the kids sweets!) The 2 mile walk to the Brackenrigg pub was definitely worth the effort. We had a lovely meal there with nice views over the lake.
All in all a perfect base for exploring the Lakes if you like peace & quiet. The showers/hair dryers & plug all take 20p - but one 20p gave a lengthy hot shower.

Very friendly campsite in a great location. Pitches perfect even if a little sloping. Toilets and showers spotlessly clean. Also available lots of local whats on info and a freezer, wash machine and dryer. Would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting the Ullswater area. The wardens also calmed any noisy guests down at around nine in the evening. Still it did not manage to make the neighbours stop snoring. Local amenities are a short drive/walk away and the local area is fantastic for all young and old.

Arrived at 1. 00pm on Monday 1st August for a five night stay.
Check-in was easy and we were shown to our pitch which was close but not too close to the toilet block, ideal as we had two children with us and our friends also had two children. The whole site is on a slope but this didn't bother us too much.
Kids ran straight to the play area which is tucked away in one corner of the site but close enough to be monitored from all corners of the site.
Facilities block includes the following:
Toilets - very clean.
Showers - 20p gets you a good 6mins (be careful with kids temperature does fluctuate a bit) Also the shower cubicles are a bit small if you are trying to get the kids showered. A couple of family cubicles would have been a big bonus. If you don't have kids to shower then the showers are lovely and hot at all times of the day and clean, a mop and bucket is provided to clean down when you are finished.
Washing/Drying/Iron - These are pay as you go. Didn't need to use these facilities but checked them out and was very impressed.
Pot wash - 3 Available, have to wait your turn but as mentioned earlier lots of hot water available.
Information - On entering the facilities block there are leaflets and maps for everything you would need, and a freezer for you ice packs.
The campsite down the hill, 10 min walk does fish and chips at £5 a portion. We took advantage of this on our first night.
Cove is in a lovely spot with walks available straight from site. We would definitely visit again.

On arrival we where shown to our pitch first impretions are a clean and well kept site. The shower block is situated in the center of the park so you are never more than a few yards away, the toilet block is kept immaculate.
There is a washing machine and tumble dryer, a small freezer and good information area with all local attractions and eating out guide and a small play area for the children.
We took our dog she was made very welcome and the site has 2 dog walking areas. There is no shop on site, but opposite the camp site less than 100 yards away it has a small shop for everyday items and a very nice pub.
We had a great welcome and is also dog friendly. Half a mile down the road is a bigger camp site, with a bigger shop and a fish and chip shop. You need the car to get to the nearest town as it is situated in the country side.
If you want a quiet camp site with friendly staff you could not pick a better place.
One very small criticism the shower cubicles are a little on the small side but I am being very critical when I mention this.
The surrounding area is ideal if you like walking and water sports, with many public footpaths we would like to wish everyone at cove park best wishes for the future and we would like to return there some time soon

Arrived on Friday 8th July to a warm welcome by the site warden / manager.
Being new to camping we did not know what to expect
Directed to a spacious pitch which was ideal for our large tent. The warden explained the facilities that were available.
The facilities are very clean and tidy and are maintained to a high standard throughout the day.
The site is very quiet, peaceful and relaxed.
There are excellent walks close by including the walk to Aira Force which was very enjoyable. We found the site perfect as a base for touring the Lake District.
The site is very well managed and supervised with the resident wardens.
We will definitely return and also recommend the site to our friends.

We camped here over the Royal Wedding weekend. We paid £69 for three night, two adults, three kids, big ten and a pup tent.
On arrival we were shown to a pitch in the camping field - It was fairly sloping and we could see empty flatter pitches that we would have preferred, but as they were expecting a busy weekend the wardens were insistent we stayed where we were put, and as the weekend wore on we felt the field had a few too meant tents for comfort.
The shower/toilet/dishwashing block was very clean, I was a bit disappointed to see meters that needed feeding 20p coins for everything from showers, hairdryers to irons!
One thing we were amazed at was how quiet the site was at night, we had friends staying down the road at The Ullswater site - noticeably noisier.
A small play area on site entertains the kids - though the one across the road on the Quiet Site is much more impressive.
Overall - a well maintained site which offers all the basics - would use the site again.

Just returned after 2 nights at this camp, it was very sunny, so wonderful for camping.
It is a very clean site, not too big and we were lucky that it wasn't crowded when we stayed.
It cost £32 for 2 nights (2 adults, child and dog)
The showers/toilets were very clean and 20p gave a long hot shower. There is also a hairdryer.
Its dog friendly and provided a good size field for letting the dog off the leash for a good run around between walks.
The warden was very friendly and she did tell us it was a sloping site when I rang to book, so we knew what it would be like and as another review said, we were in the hilly lakes, what can you expect
It was slightly sloping but we adjusted our beds the second night so we didn't roll too much.
The only downside we could see was that it was a 2 mile walk to the nearest pub (and 2 miles up hill back), but this is me not researching properly rather than a fault of the site.
The site across the road has a small shop for any essentials and a bar(although there is a sign saying it was for their campers only!so we didn't use it) Pooley bridge is a short 5 mins drive away and has several good pubs and a couple of small shops.
All in all, a really nice quiet site with good facilities at a very reasonable price.
It a beautiful spot with some excellent views across Ullswater from some viewpoints on our walks.

A really good choice. Fantastic views. Good facilities and very welcoming wardens. Dog friendly too. Not that many facilities for out of control kids and errant parents either! Great.
We shall happily book again. This is one site to bookmark if you enjoy a peaceful and stress-free break. Nearby hospital at Keswick has latest equipment to scan broken ankles, yes that too!
Beware of the potholes on lakeside of Keswick near the steamer pickup point - they are fairly big blighters. Naturally I 'fell' victim to them after enjoying a walking trip around Derwentwater.

Just returned from a trip to Cove Caravan Park in our motorhomes.
We booked our 'lake view' pitches a couple of weeks before our trip and found the process very simple, with a follow-up booking confirmation and site brochure sent to us through the post.
We found the site easily by satnav but the instructions provided on the website would have been easy to follow.
On arrival, we were immediately shown to our pitches by the very pleasant warden who provided us with some local information and made us feel very welcome.
Our pitch was spacious with a hard standing space, grass surround and ample space for our canopies. The pitches are level and (if reserved) offer a view of Ullswater which is about 1.5 miles away.
The site itself caters for motorhomes, caravans and tents. There is an excellent shower & WC block with a nominal charge of 20p for a hot shower (takes 20p coins). The large entrance to the shower block provides information leaflets with a selection of donated books and magazines.
There are lots of spaces to sit and admire the breathtaking views, with benches and picnic tables, well placed on the grassed areas.
There is a small shop available on the campsite immediately opposite the site, with the usual basics available. There is also a bar on the neighbouring site but unfortunately, guests from 'Cove' are prohibited from using this facility.
This site is very dog friendly and provides an enclosed field where you can let your dog have a run, off the lead. The wardens have a beautiful Springer Spaniel (Molly) that one of our own Spingers (Flynn) fell for!
For keen walkers, there are lots of walks that can be taken, directly from the site. There is a book available from the adjacent campsite for £2.00 and they will also give you a walk sheet for free. This contains a walk to the waterfall (aira force) which is a slightly challenging 8 mile round-trip, but worth every blister.
To summarise, we had a great time at 'Cove'. The pitch fees are reasonable and the site well organised with wardens who make you feel at home. We will certainly use this site again and would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful stay near to the lakes.
