What we weren't told on booking was that this site has an arrivals policy of after 1300 - something we'd not come across before! Thank goodness we were permitted to pitch our tent though as by 1300 it was raining. I didn't like the way we were instructed exactly where to pitch our tent rather than choosing for ourselves.
The field is flat enough but on a bad slope which meant we were sliding down the slope, had to prop our cooker up to level it and got sore backs sitting at the table on a slant.
The facilities block only had 2 showers for each men and women and was quite cold, though they do have calor gas heaters in the building we didn't see them on. A small chest freezer is available for free use. 20p slot for showers, hairdryer and an electric socket. There is a children's play area that looks nice enough but as it was raining most of the time we were there didn't see any children using it.
There is no site shop, you need to go onto the neighbouring site (The Quiet Site) to use theirs, but it has rather sporadic opening hours.
The area is great for walking and water sports, but not a great deal else. We were astounded by the pay and display parking charges at every walk we wanted to do so go stocked up with coins if you're wanting to park anywhere!
We had booked for 3 nights but after so much rain the field was waterlogged and couldn't hold any more water, we spent the second night with muddy water running through the tent and a soggy, muddy dog snuggling up to us in our sleeping compartment as it was the only dry place for her. We made the decision to cut our stay short but the mud got to us and my poor partner ended up being taken to hospital by ambulance with a badly pulled muscle above his knee.
I'm sure if the rain had ceased we'd have had a far more enjoyable stay.

We as a family totally enjoyed our stay at this site, we only stayed for 2 nights but it was a pleasure to experience the facilities, I was delighted with the toilet / showering / washing area, I have never smelt such a clean place and everyone had great respect in maintaining the areas. The warden in charge was very friendly, made us all feel so welcome and was full of information for us. We enjoyed two pleasant walks in surrounding areas, one to the falls, but the walk did become difficult in places with our dog in tow as we experienced a few very high walls, apart from this everything was perfect. Ten out of ten from us all and we hope to visit again real soon.

A small well kept and quiet site with friendly staff. Great for Caravans, not recommended for campers.
Although Caravan hard standings where nice a level with wonderful views of the lake. The whole camping field was on a fairly steep slope, including the EHU pitches. Most of the camping field including all the EHU pitches had no lake view.
It was warm and clean with ample toilet and shower facilities including wheel chair toilets and sink. The block also contains the dish washing and laundry rooms plus a lot of tourist information stuff in the entrance hall. I felt that the utility block was let down however by the 20p charge for the showers.

Arrived at the site on the Friday Afternoon with my girlfriend and the three children to find the site not quite exactly as it was described on the web site. The children's play area is a lot smaller than it appeared on the web site also where it states that you have a wonderful view of Ullswater lake this is not exactly true as you need a good pair of binoculars for this that can also see through trees. A vast majority of the pitches are also on a slope of the hill so the majority of your equipment would end up at the bottom of the tent in the morning with you attached to it. I would not recommend this as a family site, This site is far more suited to older walkers who enjoy the peace and quite away from children. For family's I would 100% recommend Park Foot for the more family orientated camping experience.

Nice site in a beautiful spot with a view of the lake and all the surrounding hills. Seemed very reasonable in price to some of the other sites in the lakes, we paid £11 per night for a tent and electrical hook up.
Toilets and showers were clean and of fairly good condition, however the gents had a large stainless steel urinal which was giving off an unpleasant smell (stale urine) maybe it wasn't flushing regularly enough, sorry for the gory detail! The showers were 20p each for about five mins and were ok, but if the shower block was busy they had a tendacy to go hot and cold a bit.
But to summarise a nice site in a very pretty location, and I would probably go again. p.s if you go make sure you are on the right site because "the Quiet Site" is directly next to it.

August 2005 We had pre-booked our 3 night Bank Holiday stay at this site which is a good job as they were full all weekend. As with most other sites, a minimum stay is required at Bank Hols. The site is well signposted from any road leading towards it. Book in at the bungalow opposite the entrance at pitch.
We were in a tent which we pitched in a slightly sloping field that got a bit muddy as the rain fell. Good showers (20p),clean toilets and sinks are provided in a smallish but adequate block. Indoor sinks and washing machines are attached to this block, as is a small freezer. The small adventure playground was well used by the two children in our party.
The very friendly owner was always available to provide any help, information or just a friendly chat. The site hasn't got a shop however you are able to use the shop at a nearby site (but not the site pub). The views from this site are amazing as you are looking down on the Ullswater valley and up at the High Street range of fells. Overall a good, clean, friendly and popular site and one with which I would have no hesitation returning to.

This is an okay site, but i was under the impression that it was near to the lake, its not. In fact its quite far up a big hill. The reception is really hard to find, its the cottage that is situated between this campsite and the Quiet campsite.
The shop is located at the Quiet Site. The owner was friendly. It costs 20p for the hot water at the showers. The toliet block was very clean. The campsite is very slopped which might be good for draining away rain water, but is a nightmare for staying on your air bed :-)
There is a field at the entrance to the site which is what i assumed to be the dog walking field, which i have to say i was not impressed with. It was very over grown and was full of pot holes. I may be wrong and this might not be the field, but it was the only one we could find

August 2005 Excellent toilet facilities, even flowers in toilet block! Kept very clean with checks every hour till midnight. Nice quiet site, will definitely go again. Although no shop on site, able to use shop on site opposite and down road for essentials, though only a few minutes by car from Pooley Bridge.

July 2005 On arrival we felt very welcomed by the owner who was also very informative. We (2 adults+2 children) opted for electric hook-up/camping. The cost was £95 in total for five nights. The location was sheltered and slightly sloping. The view across to ullswater was breathtaking. The showers/toilets were cleaned regularly. These were usually closed at 1.30pm for 1 hour for cleaning. The site seemed very relaxed with no pestering from the owners. The owners always seemed willing to help and at any time. We would have no hesitation in recommending this site and would look forward to a return visit in the future. Hope you have a good stay!
