Cove caravan site is situated on the hills above Ullswater in the little hamlet of Watermillock.
There are 2 ways of getting onto the site from the main road that runs along the Lake. The road that leads up from the Brackenrig public house is very narrow in places but there are laybyes for passing. The other road a little further down is a lot wider and safer. It's about a mile and half from the main road which ever road you take.
When we arrived we were advised to park up and look for the wardens caravan, this is at the entrance to the site and sign posted. We found the warden on his mower doing the grass. He showed us to our pitch and showed us where the shower block and toilets were located.
We were meeting another couple later in the day so we were given 2 pitches next to each other. Our pitch was next to the toilet block and bins at the top end of the site. The pitch was quite flat and you could park your car next to the pitch.
The field itself has a road running around it, everyone was being asked to pitch around the perimeter of the field and leave room for cars to go round, this seemed to work fine so kids could play in the centre of the field and away from any cars coming onto the site.
The toilet block has mens and womens toilets, in the mens were 3 cubicles, urinals, and 2 showers, they were spotless everytime I went in. 20p for a shower and 20p to use the hair dryer if you needed too. Also in this block were 2 sinks for washing up, tumble dryer and washing machine, water for washing up was always boiling and free.
For the children they have put in a play area, its made out of logs for climbing on and skirting across and a slide, our friends kids loved it.
Just down the road on another site 'The Ullswater' is a chip shop. Takes about 10 minutes to walk down but probably more to walk back up. Chips were £1.50 and fish and chips were £5.00, handy if your late arriving and can't be bothered to cook.
The site itself caters for all. Tents, motorhomes, and caravans, the wardens were very friendly and always said hello when passing.
The views from the site are great, you can see the lake and all the fells across the valley. Situated about 4 miles from Pooley bridge and 6 miles from Patterdale you are ideally located for walking and exploring. Keswick and Penrith are also very close.
All in all a great little site, well maintained and looked after. The 10.30pm-8am no noise rule was followed and the wardens were always on hand if you needed anything.
We are already looking forward to going back soon

This is beautiful and well maintained site. When we arrived, we were met by the site manager who was very friendly, and as the site was fairly quiet (it was midweek), he let us choose our pitch.
The toilet/shower block was very clean & the laundry & food prep area was immaculate. The freezer was easily accessible for ice packs & a large information board with leaflets was very helpful. There was also a file with local restaurants / pubs / takeaways & all emergency contacts on the bench.
The shop over the road on the 'Quiet Site' is very small & has limited supplies, but Pooley Bridge is a few minutes by car for anything else you may need.
We were very happy with our stay & will definitely return as soon as we can.
A beautiful, peaceful site up in the lush fells of the Lakes.

I was quite worried about this site having read the other reviews, however most of my concerns were unfounded. The site is lovely.
It is on a slope but nothing major, we didn't roll out of bed etc! The toilet block was spotless & well looked after, the site was clean & well maintained.
We arrived Thursday & the site was quiet then but by Saturday it was full but we had plenty of room around our tent, we weren't like sardines in a tin. You could just see the lake through the trees which was nice to wake up to.
Even though there are only 2 showers we didn't have to queue for a long time - 5 minutes at the most, even when the site was full. Take plenty 20p's for the showers as we struggled to get from nearby shops etc.
The notice on the 'Quiet site' opposite said we weren't allowed to used their facilities but we did - I don't know how they could stop you really, but in all honesty it wasn't up to much so we stuck to our side of the road - Ha ha!
The wardens are a bit strict with noise - on our first night we were told off for letting the kids run around the road as a relay track, saying it was 9.30 and no noise but think they realised the next night that there were too many kids on the site to expect 'lights out' so early
We would definitely return

My boyfriend and I just returned from a three-night camping trip at Cove Park yesterday and had a really wonderful time.
Not having a car, we walked the mile and a half up to the site from the bus-stop on the main road, and so got the full benefit of the incredible views.
We arrived early and got a great pitch. It seems a bit odd to me that people would complain about camping on a slope having chosen a campsite in the fells of Ullswater - hills sort of come with the package and indeed from the other sites we walked past, Cove Park was one of the flattest.
As this was our first time camping, we had some trouble pitching our tent and snapped one of the poles. The very friendly and helpful male warden rode heroically to our rescue, replacing the pole and helping us pitch the tent without laughing at our immense ineptitude.
The toilets and showers were spotless and the information point gave us lots of ideas for great things to do (the Lakelands Bird of Prey Centre is well worth a visit, and the Ullswater Steamers are great for a beautiful view of the hills!).
The shop at the site down the road is modestly stocked but has all the essentials, as well as a fish and chip shop which is much appreciated when you've got a 15 mile walk under your belt!
There is a sign saying that the bar at The Quiet Site across the road is only for people staying at that site, but we and lots of other people from our site went there of an evening and there were no problems.
All in all, we had a brilliant trip and we will definitely return should we visit that neck of the woods again.

When we arrived we found that there were no flat pitches available and we had to pitch on a slope. We had torrential rain for the three days that we were there, and the campsite and play area was completely water-logged. As we were there with two kids and a toddler, the mud and bad pitch made for a difficult and miserable time. The facilities were clean, but I thought it was a bit tight that even the plug point in the Ladies had a 20p coin slot on it! Especially as this wasn't one of the cheapest campsites I've stayed on! We found the campsite next door had a nice looking bar, but unfortunately we were put off going in by the unfriendly and unwelcoming sign telling us that Cove Park campers couldn't go in! We cut our stay short in the end. It would've been a nicer stay had the weather been better which obviously can't be helped)

Just visited the campsite for the first time 21/22 august
The weather on Friday was poor and the site was a bit muddy but the very friendly warden shown us to our site with electric hook up,it had small pebbles to pitch the tent on and this saved us from the mud
The toilet block was very clean and had 2 showers in each washroom they cost 20 pence but you got about 6 minutes there was never a queue and were easy to use with the 20 p slot inside the shower cubicle
The campsite down the lane has a chippy and a shop so no problems eating
You can walk from the campsite to various locations but will need the car if wanting to go further am told by other camp reviews you can use quite site bar but why bother when you can relax near your own unit
Having visited a few sites in the lakes this one was by far the quietest site with no annoying music and no noise late on the other campers were friendlier than we have come across.
Would recommend this site for it nice location good shower block and above all the wonderful peace and quiet

This site is still very clean and quiet, probably 17 years since we last visited. The wardens are helpful and friendly. The views are tremendous over the lake and the pitches all neat and tidy. Lots of walkers using it as a base. Not much for children ( a play park) but it is small and quiet and feels very safe. Abundance of wild life including red squirrels. Showers and toilets spotless

We stayed here during the last weekend in may, when the weather was stunning. We were given pitch number 6 which had a fantastic view of lake ullswater. The wardens were very friendly and helpful. The site has toilets washing up and showers (20p but it went a long way, hairdryer also 20p, again lasted about 8 minutes) but no shop. This was a very quiet site even when campers decided to make the most of the good weather and turn up for one night with tent in tow.
The road up to the site is quite narrow and climbs to about 400 ft above Ullswater, hence the views, but you are told to leave by another entrance on way out, that way nobody meets anything coming other way.
We ate twice in the Horse & Farrier in Dacre, this is an 18th century coaching inn, the food was very good and reasonable and huge portions.
We would deffo visit again, we paid £18 for 2 adults with electric which we thought was very good, you would pay more for a larger group though.

We stayed here at the end of August for 3 nights. Whilst the site does slope, it was still suitable for tents and was certainly not as sloped as some sites we saw in the area.
The site was pretty wet during our stay but bearing in mind the amount of rain over the past few months this was not unexpected.
The Wardens were friendly and very helpful. They kept the facilities block spotless and I would certainly have no complaints with anything therein. There was no queuing for showers, toilets or washing up facilities. There was plenty of hot water and whilst you did you have to pay 20p for showers and use of the hairdryer (don't forget your 20 pence pieces), your 20p goes a long way and was more than adequate.
There is a free freezer for ice boxes.
There are walks from the site with plenty of activities a short car journey away.
The play area is not extensive but kept a 10 year old happy.
Overall we had no complaints and would not hesitate to return.

Arrived on the 7th at midday for a 5 night stay. There were 4 adults and a dog in our party. We found the wardens caravan and was greeted by the lady warden who pointed out the facilities to us and was happy for us to pitch where we wished.
The ablutions block, which contained toilets, sinks with piping hot water, showers, separate sinks for dishes and a washing machine and dryer area an iron and ironing board and chest freezer and an area containing brochures of local attractions and maps. All areas were cleaned daily and were spotlessly clean
There were two showers for each gender that took 20p, I had a shower every day of my five day stay and never had to wait and only once found the one next to me being used, the 20p gave ample time and hot water to have a shower.
The playground for children looked very adequate but was not used much due to the weather.
The majority of the pitches for the tents are on a slope, but with a little improvisation the cookers can be levelled. Due to the bad weather the site did become water logged and the area that was walked on a lot did become muddy so cardboard was required.
There was a shop on the site next door (The quiet site) that stocked most items you require. The site next door also had an excellent bar that cove campers were not allowed to use (wink wink) dogs were allowed in and it was lovely and warm with there big open fire.
The site is ideally situated for walkers to walk straight from with public paths in different directions to choose from.
Pooley Bridge is only 3 miles away and has a tourist info, pubs, cafes and boathire for lake ullswater. Penrith is 6 miles away and has everything a large town has (Morrisons, McDonalds/KFC etc etc)
It was our first camping experience and with the weather that we were dealt (rained heavy every day) we did well to stick it out. The wardens were always helpful and friendly.
Cove Park is every bit worth the bargain prices they charge.
