Reviewers - mature couple with tent, car and bikes.
Our first choice of site was full, so we chose this one because it was a convenient location, but were slightly concerned because it is a huge site and they told us they didn't take bookings, just to turn up. The site was very easy to find, and the reception was quick, we were given codes for the gate barrier and the ladies and gents toilet blocks.
It is a lovely flat site with short grass. There is a marked bay area with EHU, and a huge field. We camped at one side where it seemed a bit quieter, but found some broken glass in the grass, and I walked some chewing gum onto the ground sheet.
There is only 1 toilet block, with about 10 toilets and 4 showers in the ladies side, plus basins. No enclosed basins though. With all the kids on site, the block was really busy, and we showered in the evening just in case. The floor got really wet and messy, and rather slippery on the tiles. In the morning it was like a swimming pool.
There were lots of groups camping together and we thought it might be noisy at night, despite the 9.30/11 pm silence, but they mostly went quiet by midnight and we had an undisturbed night.
We didn't use the on site shop, or any local eating places, but there were some in the vicinity.
Because of our good experience, and the cheap price, we would use this campsite again.

Lovely camp site. Lots of flat space. Really good position for cycle routes along the river and lakes. Lots to do at the Water Centre. Brilliant play area along the way for kids including stuff for older kids.
On site toilet blocks were dated and really grubby by the end of the day-although did get cleaned once a day. 2 washing up sinks. Not much to do if weather takes a turn for the worse. Will def go back as good value for money and didn't have to book - although website recommends you do.

Myself, husband & dog had a lovely weekend here. Large flat pitches, well kept grounds, small shop, basic but clean toilets although not enough if site was full.
Friendly staff who didn't kick you off in the morning which made it feel like we actually had a full weekend.
Two pubs serving food within walking distance, also supermarket, and chinese takeaway. Great location for water sports, cycling, horse riding, walking etc.
Will definitely be going back. Bus route into Nottingham.

Just got back today from yet again another great weekend at this campsite a pity about the weather but it was a bank holiday weekend,
Toilet facilities were clean always hot water.Got talking to the bloke who run`s the site and he said that they will be putting in more electric points and a playground in. And another toilet block.
If you want to go out for a drink and a nice meal, the lady bay pub about 20 minutes up the road can offer you this.
Enjoyed the weekend that much we have booked 7 more weekends there lol

A small group of us stayed here during the Dragonboat National Championships in 2007. The prices weren't the best, but you are paying for the convenient location. If you don't want to do your own cooking there are two chain pubs around 15 minutes walk away, or there is the suburb of West Bridgford which is around 25 minutes walk. I cannot comment on how far it is to the centre of Nottingham, but it doesn't look too far on the map!
As mentioned in previous reviews, the site provides adequate facilities when it is not too busy, but I would imagine queues will form during peak holiday season.
Despite this, we will be back in 2008 as it is so convenient for anybody attending an event at the National Watersports Centre

Just back from our first-ever camping weekend and have to say we had a great time!
The site is large and even though it was a warm mid-June weekend with a rowing regatta on at the neighbouring watersports centre, the site was not that busy. We went into the side field and practically had the place to ourselves!
We got a friendly welcome and, with plenty of space to spare, they gaves us lots of freedom in terms of the space we took up, number of gazebos etc.
Toilet/shower facilities were fine and kept pretty clean throughout, although with only one block on site, I can understand how they might get more crowded and dirtier if the site was fuller. Washing up area is just two sinks. For us, this was fine as at least one was always available but, again, I can imagine some waiting at busier times.
The site is just a couple of minutes walk to the watersports centre which provides for a great scenic walk around. There's also a small playground area within about 10 minutes if the kids get bored with the lack of anything similar on the site itself.
All-in-all, we were really happy with the site, enjoyed our weekend thoroughly and will definitely be hoping to go back again soon.

Brilliant for our local stays, good facilities, and plenty of choice pitches, fantastic surroundings with the water sports centre, good for cycling or walking. Very central for visitors to get to know Nottingham. Friendly camp site, good for group meets. Thank you, see you summer 2007!

My family and I have just come home from our first camping break, we spent three days at this campsite, and I being a proper hotel girl, found the whole experience great. The shower block was clean and tidy, by the end of the day, the block was a little wet and grassy inside, the cleaner closed the block twice a day for a clean and slosh down, the showers were great, the loos were clean. The cleaning facilities for pots and pans was satisfactory, the warden patrolled the area often, there were large bins that by lunch time today were overflowing, they could do with some more of them. The shop was overpriced, but handy for forgotten items. My whole family had a great time, the kids loved the expanse of playing area for the football and the bikes. I would rate it 8 out of 10. If the other sites I go to are like this one, I will be happy camper.

This site was unfortunately a let down. I felt that although the site was busy the state of the shower block was unacceptable. The mess and rubbish was mounting on the site and I don't think that there were enough disposal units for waste. When we arrived and saw a porta-loo I was rather shocked and then to realise that this was for more than 100 peoples use, in one field alone, I was unimpressed. A real disappointment.

Stopped at Holme Peirpont for bank holiday weekend The toilet block was filthy, there was too many people on the site, piles of rubish everywhere and the noise was going on into the early hours of the morning. The warden tried his best to keep things in order. We found the prices go up every tme we go certainly will not stay again to expensive
