What a little Gem this site is. We only live in South Shields 20 minutes up the road and decided to check this site out. Right next to the White Water and canoing facility (with small cafe) on the river Tees. The funny thing is I drive past Stockton quite a lot on the A19 and never imagined a campsite almost in the town. But when on the site I would swear I was in the country. All the pitches are well sheltered. Not far (3 mins WALKING from an Asda and other major shopping facilities)But you would never guess they were there in the area.

A down side, if you call it a down side, is that the site shop is limited to a drinks cooler, a fridge for ice cream and strangely a display box of Swan Vesta matches.Who uses matches these days anyway???. Some bread and milk, the basics would have been nice just so you did not have to leave the site if you forgot something.

There is a big pub right outside the gates of the site. But be aware. My wife ordered a meal for herself and I ordered for myself and young son one of those Combo meals that was supposed to have Chicken, Ribs and LAMB on the plate (8.20) when I had started eating the meal I noticed 2 potato skins on the plate filled with melted cheese and no LAMB. On complaining I was informed that there was no LAMB. Big difference between LAMB and Tatty skins eh. Anyway meal was reordered for something else. BUT I WONDER HOW MANY PEOPLE HAD BEEN ROBBED IN THIS WAY NOT CHECKING IF THEY HAD THEIR LAMB.

The site is Full of rabbits small baby and adult and they are quite timid. Actually standing staring at the dog when walking and not running away. There is also other wildlife around especially in the Marsh wetland just behind the campsite.

An excellent site for a short weekend break.

This was our first time in the caravan, and what a lovely site we chose to go to!
Our Pitch was spacious with plenty of room for awning & car.
Toilet and Shower Block Very Clean and well maintained.

The surrounding area has places of interest and right beside the site is tees barrage.
Shops are close by (only a five minute walk to a retail shopping centre) ideal for getting anything you have forgotton!

Would reccomend this site.

Our first Caravan trip and we were not disappointed by the clean standards of this Caravan Club site, the power showers were to die for and there were ample toilets and washing cubicles.

A 7 minute walk and you were at a 24 hour Asda very handy, also a nice pub which serves food 3 mins away.

On Sunday morning we watched the white water canoing something for everyone all in all a pleasant site.

As we had never been camping before we decided that our first experience should be close to home. This site was perfect for us as it was just down the road and had been recommended to us by friends who had done a similar thing the year before.

I can tell you that our first experience has definitely not put us off as we are planning our next weekend away, this time a bit further afield!

We found the campsite very clean and tidy. The toilet block appeared to be very central for everybody and there seemed to be somebody always there cleaning. The showers were free of charge and there were also separate hand basin cubicles. Also within the block there is a washing up area with four sinks and draining boards and a games room, although we didn't use it. There is also a playground on site which my husband took our 4 year old to, however he was not very impressed with it.

Across the road from the site there is a Beefeater pub and just a short car journey away (or a 20 minute walk) there is Teesside Retail Park which has plenty of restaurants and fast food outlets as well as a ten pin bowling alley and a multi screen cinema. Morrisons supermarket is also on this park but there is also an Asda supermarket a ten minute walk from the campsite. The campsite is in an excellent location for exploring the area, the A19 is on the door step and heading south there is the Yorkshire Dales & Moors as well as the coast, Whitby is about an hour away. Heading north there is Hartlepool and the historic quay.

Although this site is in places not very picturesque (we had a nice view of the Tees Fly-Over from our pitch!) and you do have some road noise from the A19 (but our four year old slept soundly all night), I would recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

We have visited this site twice now, once in May and then again this last weekend.

When we visited in May the site was about half full and was very quiet, the showers were clean and we didn't have any issue with availability.

The site is very clean, you can choose your own pitch and you can put two cars on your pitch.

On our last visit the site was full, but again everything was very clean and staff were very friendly and helpful.

The only negative for us on this visit was it was noisy at night. We were near the entrance which didn't help but we were kept awake until after midnight by the people walking around the site singing etc which was a real drawback for me as I am an early to be, early to rise person

Apart from that a great site - would recommend it !

We Stayed at this site on a Friday night just to get away for a quick break as it is only 20 miles away from home. We found the site to be very clean along with the toilets and showers. The showers were exceptional, very power full and hot, worth going there for them alone. On the CC site it said there might be some noise due to local building, we could here this but it was just very faint in the back ground. It did not bother us at all. The site was very quiet especially good as it is so close to the city center. You can notice a slight amount of traffic noise from the A19 at night though.
There is a reasonable dog walk on/ near the site. You can also walk to a large Asda in less than 10 minutes.

We will use this site again, and can recommend it.

Well what can I say ? This site is fantastic , toilet/shower block constantly immaculate ! Site always clean and tidy , great level hard standing pitches , friendly and helpful wardens. I know this site is 5 mins from home but when your there you feel like a million miles away .

Will be calling again without doubt !

Visited this site for a weekend to test our new tent and equipment out. Great facilities, showers hot all day and kept very clean. Close to a retail park and middlesbourgh/stockton. On the sunday the wardens allowed us to keep our cars on the site while we had lunch and there was no pressure to pack up quickly as the site wasn't too busy.

Only problem we found was the odd squeel of burning rubber as local 'boy racers' had there fun on the adjacent road to the site. Even this didn't bother us too much and we were in the worst place close to the road.

First of all one of the best sites we have visited ever! It has all the facilities you need like hot running water, hot showers which you can temperature control yourself. veg prep areas, excellent washing-up area including sink plugs!  (LOL) The staff are very friendly and helpful.
There is a play park for the kids which is gated so no dogs allowed but this I think is the only fault I/we found with this site and I can not believe only one other comment has been made regarding this. The play park is a pebble / loose gravel area. The kids not only get very dirty from it's dust etc. But they can have some badly grazed knees / hands etc. And they tend to throw the stones!
There is a pub ('Talpole' I think it's called) at the camp gates, nature reserve at site of camp where we were told rare birds are to be seen. A large retail park which is only 5 mins away by car but not very safe to walk includes shopping for everyone with Morrisons, M&S, Next, Toys 'R' us, Argos superstore and loads more including a multi-screen cinema, Ten-pin bowling Pizza Hut, Burger King, McDonalds etc.
Walking out there is the Tees Barrage White Water Rafting and also within walking distance in the opposite direction is Portrack Lane another wide variety of shops etc. Including Asda, Big W, Collectables to name a few. We like this site very much but would take care with play park area, brill for sensible kids only!

Just returned from a two night stay. Toilets immaculate, plenty of hot water, pool and games room. Short walk to excellent pub and restaurant and riverside walks. Staff helpful and friendly.
Pitches a good size with plenty of hard standings.
Only one thing spoilt it and I can't believe only one other reviewer has mentioned it, the noise from the rolling mill is incessant, sounds like a drill all day, including Saturday. Woke us up at 6.30 and didn't stop till 6pm! No one else seemed too bothered though, but we like our peace and quiet whilst away. Such a shame as otherwise an outstanding site.
