As I have mentioned in my previous review of this site, it is a quiet (although during the peak weeks, you get a lot of teenage lads playing their music loudly at night), peaceful (scenery) and breath-taking site.

The site is not due to close down, and the new farmer came over when a friend and I visited to introduce himself.  Nick is a very helpful site manager / owner, and can recommend a lot of things to do and see in the area.  Although a lot of people who know about this site, also know about the beautiful area!

Prices are very cheap, and Nick pays you a visit every morning to take the fees.  Unfortunately, you get a few stupid people staying on the site who have either gone out for the day starting early, or have packed up and gone before his rounds.  Before I say anything else, I want to say - it's people like you (and I mean the ones I've just described) who are putting this beautiful site at risk!

The toilet block has improved - a new roof, new sinks and new toilets.  Still no showers, but who needs one when you've got the lovely stream;  or if you're a bit more daring, the part of the stream that's deep enough to swim for your bath!

An ideal location for people wanting to get away from it all, and for climbers & walkers who have the benefit of all the magnificent places to see around the area.

I will be going back to this camp site for the August Bank Holiday Weekend 2006.

The site manager comes round every morning to collect rent. All you have to do is pitch your tent and see him when he comes the next morning.  It is only £3 per person per night. BARGAIN

The location is wonderful, right in the middle of the valley and right by the stream.  Just 10mins from the site up the stream is a waterfall and a nice place for a swim or as we all did use it as a bath. LOL. The only thing about being in a valley is that u get no phone signal.  The closet place to get a signal is Grange (2miles away) but there is a payphone in the INN.

It was my first ever camping trip. I am used to a hotel, a bed and room service. BUT I would go again it was a great laugh and we all enjoyed it.

To be honest we were not planning on going to this site when we set out for our weekend camping but when we found it it looked to be in a very nice position, albeit at the end of a very rough track.

We will not be going back. I would strongly recommend not going here if you wish to get a good nights sleep, or if you plan on taking kids. We were kept awake until almost sunrise by large groups on the site playing loud music from their car stereos, singing, shouting, swearing, drinking and at one point even fighting.

Facilities are very basic, just a small toilet block with no lights which was dirty and flooded by dusk. It seemed a shame to have such nice surroundings spoiled, I feel sorry for the locals.

This has got to be the most picturesque place this country has to offer.  I have stayed here on a number of occasions and always found it to be a pleasant friendly site and the new farmer who has took over is a very nice guy.  The facilities are very basic but no one cares as the views are stunning.
The only problem lately has been the large groups of people who land on a weekend and think it is a rave, I'm not a stick in the mud either I like good music a good camp fire not on the grass though and a good crack on about nothing in particular please don't spoil this beautiful site.  But I have been told form the Farmer that this will change as new guidelines are being put in place including having to book onto the site before even attempting to brave driving onto it.  I hope this helps the situation for all campers and carers.

Cant believe anyone not enjoying this campsite! Got to be one of the best. Fair enough toilet block not fantastic and the music can go on till all hour's but I suppose you have to give considering the price you pay for one night stay, it's unreal man! and the place is just so friendly, as for the rough ride down onto the site it just adds to all the fun, the kid's thought so anyway, the baby even found it amusing. Lol.
To all visiting enjoy.x.xregards mary.x.

I have been visiting this campsite for 33 years on and off and I have fond memories as a child when the toilet consisted of a single wooden outhouse type shed with a dodgy door and lots of spiders! It has to be the most spectacular site, rushing stream, majestic mountains and camp fires thrown in. I'm looking forward to taking my children for the first time in the hols.

Just had the most amazing weekend on this campsite, this is what camping is all about. I have been camping since I was five years old and I have been on many campsites this one is by far the best, fresh air lovely stream running through. Smashing walk ways for those who like rambling. Also campfires allowed so long as it's not on the grassy area. The kids loved this we had jacket potatoes cooked on the fire shame my good friend forgot the marshmallows they would have been nice.
Nice friendly folks on the site and dirt cheap to stay here, unlike many commercial sites we have stayed on. Toilet block a good laugh if you have had a few drinks and forgot your torch!no showers but as long as you have a fresh change of clothes and a dish to wash in nothings the bother. If you hit on warmer weather there;s nothing stopping you bathing in the stream, good old mother nature? well I have just finished unpacking and done a good few loads of washing as the kids got soaking playing in the stream everyday even in the rain and I cant wait to pack it all back in the van and head straight back again this weekend, weather permitting - lol. I strongly advise anyone to visit this site for a breath taking relaxing weekend. Regards Mary.x.

We have been visiting this site for years and years now and it is the most beautiful place on earth! It is so relaxed and wonderful not to have numbered pitches, barriers, and camp site wardens! There is an amazing little waterfall ten minutes walk into the valley with a swimming pool if you can brave the icy water... The Scafell Hotel is a 15 minute walk heading back to Keswick and is a great place to relax inside or out with a drink before heading back to the site where there is always something going on!

You do have to be tolerant of other peoples' music, wet weather and midgies, but this site is so worth visiting for a truly magnificent experience of camping in the outdoors; which is becoming increasingly hard to come by in the 21st century.....

Very cheap site, nice scenary, nice stretch of river for kids to play in. Very wet most of the year. Basic facilities, standpipe for freshwater, toilets in small block but no lighting, thats your lot.

Is frequently very noisey and open fires (which don't mix with tents well) as no site control I'm afraid. Access road is very heavy going for standard road vehicles. I won't go back again anyway, but other people seem happy with it.

 May 2005
i have been going to this site for about 14 years now and stop there at least twice a year. I think the the land is owned by the National Trust but run by a warden (a farmer called Vic). Unfortunately he retires next march(2006) and the NT are considering closing the site down. So if you want to visit the best and friendliest camp site in britain (and i've been to quite to quite a few) best get yer skates on!

The site has something for everyone who is fed up with commercial sites. There is a stream running along one edge of the site and if your walk a bit further up there are some beautiful waterfalls and pools where you can swim if its warm enough.
There are 5 Wainwrights (Big hills) within a 1 mile radius and these are definately worth a climb. Blackmoss Pot is in the nearby Langstrath valley, its a large waterfall/pool.

The nearby village of Seathwaite has a trout farm where you can rent a rod or buy a trout caught that day for about £1.20. 20 mins on the bbq and you are laughing. The people you meet at this site are usually very friendly apart from the younger groups who tend to make too much noise.

Fires are also tolerated on this site if located near the rocks next to the stream. Facilities are very poor, a dark and dirty block with a couple of basins and toilets.
