We're delighted to confirm this location has reopened as an official campsite again - it accepts caravans and motorhomes but no tents now, and it is open all year. At the time of writing they charge £20pn, and payment gives 10% off at bar

Unfortunately this site is now closed. There are no camping facilities as of this year, the field has now been given over to livestock.

Went here in a tent last year.
We followed the tourist signs and found the pub and what we thought was a campsite.
It was ok, but a bit of a problem with no showers and no loos for the ladies early in the morning. Bit pricey as well. We stayed for two nights and decided to move on and find somewhere to have a wash!
Nice part of the forest though and it is handy being next to the pub.
Try and put in some showers - Please

This is one site we like, it is basic but the walks are really good.
When we arrived this time,we were told that we can't park next to our tent, ok, thats new,but never mind! We set the tent up etc, got it all as we like it, then set off for the 'new toilet block' after a round trip of the pub, we could NOT find it, so my other half went in the pub to ask where they were.T he manager said we don't have any ! Yes, you have a new toilet Block. NO we dont have any toilets, only those in the Pub,and we close at about midnight, and open about 10am. Last year you left the side toilet door open for us campers, NO cant do that someone may break in the pub, so Why then this year is there no new toilets or access to the old ones ?
We did make a telephone booking, why then were we not told about this? dont no, but you can't use the toilets out of hours.
They did tell us that they were fully booked for the bank holiday. No more than 8 tents at any one time I saw.Last year all 3 fields were full, really full to. Heaving !
This was a lovely part of the New Forest to camp in,but like so many other camp sites that have been taken over, they are expensive

We were here August Bank Holiday, the field we were in was full! so were the other 2 !
The toilet block (Male),was the toilets for the pub,! 1 washhand basin,1 toilet and 2 urinals Que's 6 to 10 long for hours, even 6 in the morning you were not alone. There was a site loo but by 10am the smell was to bad !For the girls much the same 2 toilets and a washand basin ! again Que's and Que's. There was NO shower block male or female.
The food in the pub was very good, but again Que's and a long wait to eat.
But the walks in the forest were great,we did have a good time,More toilets and Showers are needed ASAP.

The facilities at the site are basic with a water point, a chemical toilet disposal point and some bins for rubbish. There is one toilet bowl in the gents toilets and one in the ladies. During the day campers are able to use the pub toilets which were clean and well stocked however these are not available when the pub is shut.
Great meals are available in the pub for around £8, the pub is friendly and although soft drinks are a little expensive the beer/larger prices are normal for the area. This camp site is also cheaper than most in the area, and although basic with no shower it is good value. I will use again

OK so this was my first time here at this campsite and first impressions weren't too good unfortunately. I went with a group of friends and my boyfriend and although the place wasn't that brilliant we had our laughs. We first got into the pub and had to pay for our pitches the pub at the beginning was swarming with people. After once paying we went to the 3rd pitch. (3 big pitches overall) The pitch was just one big square of grass. Pub- The pub had entertainment and Karaoke etc. Didn't get around to trying their food as we went to another restaurant close by. The cost for drinks was average not too bad and the people with in the pub were friendly. The campsite was fairly quiet at night time although you did have the odd few people dancing to music outside there cars about midnight! The first night there we had a disposable barbecue for this we had to get a box from the pub so that it didn't burn the ground, only thing is they had run out and told us to get some bricks instead from the old building opposite the pub. Now Ive left the worst thing to last, the campsite would be really nice if only it had a shower and if only the toilets were not so disgusting! TOILETs- Smelt/dirt everywhere/small/not very many.

The site was a short walk from the pub, the reason we had chosen this site, no one had to drive back to the site. Also site was reasonably priced compared to other sites in the area. The pub did food but we never experienced it as it was fully booked all weekend. Pub was nicely situated just a stones throw away from the Rufus Stone which is a pleasant stroll for anyone who cares to go and look.
The owner of the site took our money and told us we could pitch where ever we liked in the bottom field. We did not see him ever on the campsite itself. This lack of presence was felt as people allowed their dogs to run round the field without consideration of other campsite users and one tent even had a fire, which was strictly forbidden.
The camping field is an area behind the pub, when we went they had just cut the grass, which had obviously not been cut for quite a while so the amount of cut grass lying around was high, I cleared our pitch before we put the tents up, my friends though I was mad! The ground was reasonably easy to pitch in and reasonably flat also, the site was surrounded by trees so we pitched in a corner to get the maximum amount of shade we could.
The area is beautiful the road that passes the front of the pub is not busy and most keep to the speed limit. There is an area of heathland opposite the pub which is great for playing frisby and other such games.
The facilities at the site are basic a water point, a chemical toilet disposal point and some bins for rubbish. When we went the provision for toilets was sparse to say the least, being unsure of the availability of toilets on booking the site I specifically asked if they had toilets as we were a group of 6 without alternative arrangements. I was told that yes they had toilets. During the day campers are able to use the pub toilets which were clean and well stocked however these are not available when the pub is shut. The alternative was across the road from the site, a small temporary building, still on the back of a trailer, locked for the entire weekend. I would not advise campers who don't have their own toilet to camp here.
The New forest is lovely, we especially like the sweet shop in Lymington! Queues into the local towns can form at weekends so be prepared to wait, also it is best to fill up with petrol outside the New forest as Petrol stations are few and far between and can be very expensive.
Ultimately we shan't be returning to this campsite as we prefer a campsite that is better wardened and actually has toilets! However if you have a porta potti and are looking for peace and quiet this is an ideal place to go.

We came to camp here in October 2006 for a weekend - as it was one of the sites that's open all year round. . Site is very simple having just 6 Hookups (and a few non hook up caravan places) and a Porto cabin for toilets. Lots of room for tents in another field. This is the sort of site we like as it feels less commercial and is cheaper. We don't like to pay more because all our facilities are on board the caravan anyway. Cost was just £12 for the night with hookup. Had a nice playground for my two young nephews (1 and 3) who spent most of the morning playing on it. They were also interested by the pigs, cows and horses that were strolling around the vicinity. Lovely looking pub both inside and out. We had already bought our meals for the weekend but were very tempted to go in there to eat. Would come back for sure.

On the plus side this is a lovely site in the middle of nowhere in the New Forest. On the downside this is a lovely site in the middle of nowhere! We stayed for one night as part of a group. Would not want to stay longer (or again). The camping field we were in was across the road from the pub and it was just that - a field! In this field was the oldest, smelliest portacabin I have ever seen. It contained 3 toilet cubicles (no loo roll, no paper towels and no hot water). It did, however, have a sign asking users to leave the place in the same state as they found it! Someone will no doubt have trouble leaving at all soon as the floor had almost disintegrated in one cubicle and it would not take much for a foot to go right through. This toilet block had it's own sewage filtration pond attached to deal with waste – you can imagine the smell! There was a stand pipe next to the 'mini sewage farm' which was the only access to clean water for the field.
The main 'campsite' was a field just behind the pub and they had a slightly newer portacabin for their loo facilities – it was conveniently located next to the overflowing skip that was the only place for anyone to put rubbish.
We were charged £15 for our 'pitch' – and £2.80 for a glass of orange juice and lemonade for the children!
If you like rural camping and getting back to nature then this site is ideal. If you have children I would recommended investing in a portable toilet or a caravan!
