Just visited at the weekend and although the smell coming from the toilet block was unbearable everything else about this site was ok
The pub was lovely and the Sunday roast dinner was as good as mum used to make.
The pub also does a good selection of other foods and a wide selection of real ales etc
The area was very quiet and lots of lovely wildlife, even a horse was there to greet us when we woke up.
In all I would go back but there are no showers and the toilets were not the best.

We have just returned from a stay at this site. We found it to be a lovely place to stay, and will definitely return. Our only downside was the toilet block. Not clean at all, and smelly. We used the pub toilets whenever possible, and used them for washing, and brushing teeth.
The pub is lovely, with nice food, reasonably priced. The staff were polite. And the noise on the site was low. We did have a stag party next to us, which were playing guitar and singing, but did not bother us.
If the toilets blocks were improved - excellent!

Fields exceptionally prone to flooding, toilet facilities were a portakabin that was locked - using the pub toilets wasn't exactly practical... The pub itself was vastly overpriced and always empty. Not a huge amount within walking distance of the site, so this is essentially a pretty shabby pub with a field at the back.

 May 2005
This site is behind a very large quiet pub and consists of 4 fields. One field, nearest the pub had EHU (I think) and a couple of caravans in there, drive through this and there is a larger field bordering the pub gardens and the playground, but with an area between the pub garden so you weren't really close. No marked pitches, and the grass was a little long, just not mown close. The left and right side of the field were bathed in sunlight all day, but the area at the very bottom was shaded from early evening, slightly damp, and bordered an extremely quiet forest road. There are two further fields on the other side of the road, the first was large and housed the portacabin style toilet block (Smelly area, not good in high summer possibly) The furthest field was also very large. You can also use the pub toilets when it is open, from 8/9 in the morning onwards.

I pitched next to the road, near the playground and was not disturbed by any noise from the pub, or fellow campers even though my field was quite busy.

The pub does some very good food, and reasonably priced. You can pre-order breakfast too. Also had entertainment on at the weekend, but not excessively noisy.

There were ponies, cows and deer right ooutside the front of the pub, and we saw deer on the road at night. The site is surrounded by forest and heathland as you would expect, with only one house nearby. The approach is a very quiet forest road, with hardly any traffic.

The only downside for me was no showers or washing up facilities, and I had to search out a tap for water (by kitchen door). The owners are trying to sort showers/toilets out and said their website will be updated as soon as these are in place. But this was more then made up for by the peaceful surroundings, feeling of safety all over the site. The owners watched out for my "little miss independent", and were extremely friendly. They towed my car out of the damp patch quite happily.

The whole site was very secure, but without being intrusively fenced in, so you didn't need to worry about being trampled by ponies in the night, although I was told that ponies had got in at the furthest field, and were promptly shooed out again!

There was also a steady rumble of traffic noise from the A31 at night, but it was hardly noticeable. Depended which way the wind blew.

When I arrived I was a bit worried that it would be a noisy site, but the owner seemed to separate "the teenagers" and the younger families appropriately, and there was no noise from the pub itself. Would certainly return there, access to all other parts of that area was easy, and had a very enjoyable stay there. Couldn't find a shop anywhere near, but I think there may have been one somewhere. Definitely a site for a bucket with lid, though!
