First time at this site. 2 adults & 2 young children (3 & 7).
The start wasn't great; being told at reception it would cost us an extra £12 for 2 nights (£35 in total), because we'd been misquoted over the phone!
The tent area is away from the main site and we were initially a little disappointed with the size of the space allocated for tents. Everyone has to pitch & park as tightly as possible, to give others space to get in. That said, we started to feel pretty cosy after the first day!
We did feel a little bit like second class citizens though, as all amenities (showers / toilets / shop etc) were all at the bottom of the hill, where the caravans were. So you were trudging up & down to wash-up, go to toilet etc. They did have a drinking tap & bins up by the tents, so that was handy.
Shower/toilet facilities were clean & acceptable.
This isn't the best site for children as there are no play facilities; although we must say that the kids loved the ducks who wandered around - They even ventured into our tent (they were enticed by us & bread though!) The bat display above us at dusk was a nice end to the evening.
I know we were forewarned by another reviewer, but jeez the stony ground was a killer for getting pegs into - this pretty much doubled our pitch-up time.
The surrounding area is beautiful; Leyburn is a lovely Market town, with a fab shop in the square that seems to sell everything - we stocked up on badminton rackets, bubbles & a rocket launcher for the kids. Buckden is a delight and brought back many childhood memories; take a picnic and sit by the river, taking in the view.
I love this area, but think we would try and find a more child-friendly site next time.

This was our second visit to this excellent site. Facilities are spotless and plentiful and staff are helpful and welcoming. Rates are very reasonable, considering the high standard of the site.
Leyburn is a 15 minute walk and is well worth a visit, with a variety of shops, pubs, restaurants and take-aways. It is an excellent base for exploring the Dales and there is an excellent, regular bus service in both directions towards Hawes and Northallerton - there is a bus stop a few minutes from the site. There is also the Wensleydale Railway. On the doorstep is the Pheasant Inn, which is a nice pub, but they don't serve food.
Overall, great site, will use again.

Our third time here and already booked again for June.
What a lovely site, nice and sheltered being in a quary.
Loads of wildlife around the site.
Its only about 15-20 min walk into Leyburn which has take-aways pubs and supermarket. Lovely market also on Friday and Saturday.
At the entrance to the site opposite the pub (can't remember the name) is a lovely water fall well worth a quick walk.
Railway line at the bottom of the site however we only heard about 2 trains in all the time we have been here
Wardens really nice but not overbearing, try some of thier fresh eggs really nice!

Nice site and lovely nature around.
Staff were nice and helpful.
If have and problems walking etc recommend asking for pitch nr toilet block as some pitches are quite a way off and steep. . If being critical, its pitches are a bit squashed and very different in size in areas. Shower/toilet block is a bit dated but fine.
Loved the area and Leyburn has plenty of choices for shops and food, chippy, pub grub, chinese, indian etc.
Well sheltered from wind and excellent setting.

Took My 10 year old daughter camping for the first time and she loved this site with the ducks and rabbits roaming the site. Toilets and showers are excellent. The only problem I had was trying to get the tent pegs in the ground, with it being an old quarry the ground is very stoney. But now cannot wait to return to this superb site

What a lovely place to stay!
There is wildlife a plenty, peace and quiet and fabulous loos and showers! We stayed two nights and left feeling thoroughly relaxed (until our beloved camper blew up on the way home!)
The wardens were very friendly, happy to offer advice but not overbearing - lovely people!
It's an easy 20 min walk into Leyburn for a meal and a drink. The Saffron indian is excellent - the staff drive up from Bradford each evening!
Nice for kids, no play area but lots of wildlife to look at - just how we like it. Will definitely return (maybe in a tent!).

This is the best site I have been to! Beautiful setting, off the beaten track but within walking distance of a pub. Sheltered pitches with plenty of space between. Lovely strolls to be had around the campsite and loads to see and do a little further afield. Plenty of entertainment from the ducks and rabbits on site. Fantastic shower and toilet facilities, plentiful, always warm and spotlessly clean. Friendly and helpful wardens.

Have just returned from a three night break at this site over the bank holiday and cant fault the site at all .
As a C.C member this has to be one of my favourite site's . If you are looking for peace and relaxation this is the place to go , the wardens are extremely helpful and although the site was full being the bank holiday there was always sufficient hot water available in the showers.
Leyburn is approximately 15 min away on foot with plenty to do and see in the town, cant wait untill I return in the august bank holiday

Stayed on this site for 3 nights over Easter weekend. Brilliant site in a dissused quarry giving a lot of shelter from the elements(it was very windy when we arrived). Shower blocks were warm, very clean plenty of hot water, toilets and privacy cubicles the heating was much appreciated as we had snow while we were there. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Will be going back soon as really good walking and also just a 10 minute walk into Leyburn for pubs(dogs are also allowed in The Bolton Arms)shops etc.

It was a very wet weekend that we stayed at this site. However there was lots to do in this area that didn't cost us a fortune. We visited the Hawes cheese factory, sampling the cheese was great. We also went to the local castle, sorry name escapes me but plenty of signposts, they had a re-enactment day on which was excellent.
Hawes itself was lovely to wander around despite the weather. The site was lovely, the facilities were fine, very clean. The wardens were lovely and helpful.
There were lots of ducks wandering around and coming up to be fed, luckily we hadn't fetched the dog. They were quite a sight to see when they all waddled off to bed at dusk. We also went to Aysgarth falls which was a bit of a rip off, through a not very nice pub and overgrown field ( sorry if it's yours ) and pay £6 to see them. The falls were lovely.
