Stayed at Southport for 5 nights in the new part of the Park. Very impressive facilities block kept absolutely spotless. Excellent toilet facilities brilliant washing up area and disabled facilities. Still very open planned and minutes from the sand dunes and the beach. Extremely close to Victoria park, in fact out of the gate in the caravan park to the Southport Victoria Park. Lots of space for children and dogs of course. The village of Birkdale a short walk up the road with pubs and restaurants and of course very near to Southport's Lord Street with its many shops. Highly recommended as a site

To Find Site:- Leave M6 motorway at junction 26 and take M58 and leave at junction 3 on A570 signed for Ormskirk and Southport. (this is not a fast road so be prepared) On the outskirts of Southport follow A570 right into the centre of the town. You will eventually come to a T junction where you turn left and at the next roundabout turn right and follow signs to Esplanade Park and Ride and turn left at roundabout with brown sign to Caravan Club Site. The site is a few hundred metres along this road on left.
Southport Caravan Club, members only, site is a long established and popular campsite and it has recently been extended to almost double its original size. There are now around 180 pitches most of which are on hardstanding with only a handful on grass and even these have paving for wheels to sit on. Southport is a very long site divided by a public footpath between the Esplanade and Victoria Park. The original part of the site is situated around the reception and then forms a long single road to the end with pitches mainly along one side of the road. A fair proportion of the pitches in this section are non-awning pitches. This section has its own toilet block which is of older vintage but is due to be refurbished over the winter of 2014/15. The motorhome service point is situated near to reception and is quite spacious. The newly opened section is more open and exposed as there is no planting to speak of. The pitches are larger and the bases have large granite stones which can made securing pegs quite difficult as the solid base seems a long way down. In this area are some fully serviced pitches which are available at extra cost. There is a newly built modern toilet block with a service point just outside. The only other service point is at the far end of the site which means some pitches are some way away. I would have thought an area of the size would have justified an additional service point as it is a long walk between the two points. Wire fences have been erected between rows of pitches. Whilst giving extra privacy it does mean there are no short cuts to water points or toilets. Apparently they are there to protect an area of grass which is used as a soak away in wet weather. On all parts of the site electric points are the standard CEE17 using blue connectors and are rated at 16amps. There are no TV hook-ups. Reception sells a few essentials. There is a small information room next to reception. Site wide WiFi is available at extra cost although despite being in the new part of the site I found it could be a bit temperamental at times. There is no children’s play area but just in Victoria Park there is a nice adventure style playground.
The advantage of this site is its excellent location close to the centre of Southport which is a 20/30 minute walk away through the adjacent Victoria Park. There are a good variety of shops in the town. Unfortunately foot passengers are no longer accepted at the Park and Ride, which is a short walk from the site entance, so members have little option but to walk into town as there appears to be no other convenient public transport option nearby which is disappointing. ( I understand this decision may be reviewed later in the year) For food shopping there is a Morrisons supermarket within a 15/20 minute walk of the site but there are also Sainsburys and ASDA a little further away. Southport has good transport connections by bus and train and is a good point from which to visit Liverpool. If you buy a day ticket it will also entitle you to use the Mersey Ferries. The town of Southport hosts many events over the course of a year including the famous Southport Flower Show which is held in Victoria Park right next to the site. Southport is quite cycle friendly with cyclists being able to share pavements in many places and this includes the Promenade. There are many restaurants and pubs in the town and also in the new development near the Pier.

Arrived just after 12 on Saturday - pleased we did, managed to bag ourselves an ideal spot. Shortly afterwards there were queues of outfits waiting to get onto the site. Must be one of the busiest sites we've been to.
This is a huge site, downside is only one amenities block in the centre of the site. We used our own shower as there are only 4.
The wardens do a brill job keeping the site clean and tidy; and the amenities are immaculate, just dated.
Ideally situated 15 minutes walk to centre of Southport which is good for amusements for kids, swimming, plenty of outdoor park space with different activities such as a model railway, model boating lake, croquet, tennis and just wide open spaces. Around the site there are miles and miles of open spaces for dog walking, cycling, jogging, near to beach, then of course if its raining, a decent town for good old shopping. There is a kids playground behind the site but if your children are young you would have to leave the site and supervise them. Be careful as some locals tend to let their rather large dogs have free run of the open ground!
Plenty of nice places to eat, drink, alcohol or coffee. If you enjoy walking and shopping, take a walk up Weld Road, to the left of the site, to Birkdale, a small cosmopolitan village with nice boutique shops and take some time to enjoy a coffee or glass of wine in Villago's Italian bistro. Its beautiful.
Is site child friendly? Its location would meet the needs of every family member. Its also flat for people who may need to use walking aids. A good all rounder I would say. It rained for two days while we were here but it didn't put us off as there is so much to do. Oh, and a 10 minute walk to Morrisons so good for motorhomers!
Had a wonderful week here, would I return? Definitely.

Just arrived home from Southport CC Site. As mentioned on other reviews, this site is up to the usual Caravan Club standard. Situated 10-15 minutes walk from the town centre through the park or you can catch the Park & Ride bus into town for free from just down the road.
The shower block is a touch dated but very well maintained, my only gripe is the poor water flow in the showers, when all four showers in the gent's were in use it slowed to a trickle.
All the pitches are hard standing but those with limited mobility be warned that the north end of the site is quite a distance from the shower block.
Would we stay again? Definitely.

When we first looked at this site we were put off because it was near to the amusement park. Then we spoke to someone who has stayed on the site and had a rethink and so glad we did we loved it.
The sat nav brought us in via the coast road and wanted to take us into the amusement park, luckily there were a couple of roundabouts so we soon found the sign for the site. Friendly greeting from the wardens, as previously mentioned the site is set out in a very long narrow line, not sure what happens if you get to the bottom and need to turn round.
The shower block is dated but was clean and warm, there are plans to refurbish in 2013. This site is perfectly situated. In walking distance to the amusement park but far enough not to be noticed. Across the road is a nature reserve, park and ride and bike hire.
In the middle of the site there is a gateway into Victoria Park, great for walking the dogs, watching the model boats and cars and taking a ride on the miniature train. Walk through the park and there’s Splashworld, Morrisons and just a short walk further to the right is the town centre.
For the more energetic there are several well sign posted cycle routes, maps from the Eco centre. Managed two before the rains arrived. Went to Crosby to see “Another Place” the statues on the beach. Warning check the tide times before your visit, we didn’t and the tide was in only managed to see a head!
Our last couple of days were marred by the downpours. The park entrance was flooded, the awning went home soaked and the drive home was scary. Can’t wait to go back. Would have given a 10 rating but for dated facilities

We chose this site as it is close to the Liverpool ferries and we were going to Dublin by ferry. The site is signposted which is a good job as our garmin tried to tell us to turn right on to the Esplanade when in fact it is left.
We received a warm welcome and asked to choose our pitch and let them know which we had chosen.
The pitches are all hard standing and fairly level.
The shower block is clean and heated with plenty of hot water and no push button.
There is a Morrison's near by.
The site is a 10 - 15 minute easy walk into Southport although there is a park and ride bus. It is quicker to walk through Victoria Park but it was closed due to preparations for a festival. Southport has lots of shops and pubs and plenty to amuse the kids.
The beach is a 5 minute walk.
The nearest pub is The Fisherman's Rest which is a 5 minute walk from the site and serves good beer and food at reasonable prices.
Satellite TV reception was good. 3 mobile reception was not good and had hardly any coverage. 3 mobile internet was OK but did keep dropping out.
All in all a good site and we will be retuning after our trip around Ireland.

We had five nights on this site and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The weather was awful but that's a British summer for you. The site was well laid out, nice and quiet, with good access.
We liked being able to leave the car and walk into town, and we liked the ample dog walking areas close to the site.
One minor issue though - the site would benefit from an extra couple of service points for water and waste disposal.
The only other issue was the number of members who cannot or will not drive within the site at 5mph. One guy, with a caravan hooked to his vehicle, must have been doing 20 to 25 mph. I would say the minority drove at the 5mph limit. This is reflected in our lower score for child friendliness.

Called by to 'reccy' the site and contractors are busily undertaking BIG alterations and groundworks. I imagine this will be quite a different site in March when it opens again than the one which closed down at the end of the 2011 season. The reception block looks to be doubling in size and new trenches have been dug all over the place.
The location is unchanged and the 2nd best in Southport in my view.

Easy to find as follow park and ride signs from town centre.
All hardstanding, some not very good condition, breaking up etc. Warm toilet block.
Ladies state 11.15 to noon for cleaning, then other sign says any time from 10.30 and don't hold them up!
Site leaflet say don't waste electricity but bollards on all day round the site.
You can use the park and ride bus for free which is handy. Only runs until 6. 30pm
Big morrison near the site. Sainsburys in Lord Street. 2 wetherspoons in the town, both a bit pricier than where we live.

Just come back from our 3rd visit this year!
We absolutely love this site. It's perfectly located, within walking distance of beach, park, supermarket (Morrisons), funfair, swimming baths, & a retail park including, cinema, restaurants & shops.
The site is immaculately clean & the the staff very warm & friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. Just book in at reception & have a drive round to pick your preferred spot, then let them know in the office what number you've pitched at & they give you toilet keys & barrier fob (at no extra charge!).
The toilets & showers are spotlessly clean & always plenty of hot running water. There has never been any issue with noise & this site is used by families & couples alike.
There is the added bonus of the rabbits too.
Love, love love this site & will return many more times.
