I have been staying in hales hall every year for 13 years! I have many fond memories there! its not as up to date as some camp sites but its probably the friendliest camp site ive been to. The showers could do with a face lift, and the hall itself would be lovely if done up. It's in a good place. Convenient for shopping in town and close to Alton towers, and they make the best breakfast baps in the shop. The park is ok for the kids. Who needs a super one, we take the kids to have fun with them not dump them in the park! I'll be staying there again for another 13 years. Hopefully they will get extra showers to cut the queue down in the morning. It does get busier every year!

2nd visit to Hales Hall, site has improved in terms of cleanliness since my last visit, the staff are still helpful as always, shower blocks were bit dirtier this time. One nag was one night the bar was closed with no explanation, no notice on the door or anything which left me and a friend with nothing to do other than sit and read book in the tent and an early night. Will be visiting again in June 07

10 of us picked the site for the convenience of Alton Towers and as there was no restrictions on the number we had in our party. Apart from the first pitch being on a slope we were moved to a higher pitch and had our caravan and 3 tents around us.
The toilets were nice and clean and the showers were hot and enclosed. The on site pub was very friendly and it had kareoke and entertainment as it was halloween weekend. Would recommend this site to anyone who wants a no hassle no restrictions weekend. Will be returning next year about the same time so come say hello

Found this site very family friendly and you were not worried about making to much noise as everybody seemed to be making just as much. In fact the site was more noisy into the early hours of the morning than it was in the day. we were told that there were on electric hookups on booking to see when we arrived that there was in fact electricity.i never questioned it at reception though The shower facilities were not so good 1 minute there was water, next there was a trickle.as were the washing up area. The pool had no filtration and had plenty of insects floating on it, the play area was not very good even though the kids seemed to enjoy it Overall the site was a good place to stay and we really enjoyed our time the even though it rained through out. Would return again

Stayed here over late May Bank Holiday with some friends. Nothing but good things to say about the staff - they were very helpful in accommodating our group at the last minute as our original campsite was flooded out. Had no negative encounters with staff out and about or in office. General impressions: site is not very level so campers be aware - however ground is soft so pegging out not a chore. There are hedgerows and trees separating camping fields so it does look nice and rural. Some areas of fields get a bit muddy after rain but no major dramas. Shower block - needs updating as noted elsewhere but I actually found the cleanliness level quite acceptable - it was cleaned each day that we were there and loo roll was regularly refilled in the ladies (not always the case on some sites!) Plenty of hot water all day, but my main gripe was that the water pressure in the showers was pretty abysmal - it was more of a 'determined trickle' than a shower! The block could also benefit from hooks for hanging towels near the sinks. There was a bit of graffiti inside the loo doors in the Ladies'. Washing up areas are covered areas outside the loo block - I spotted 4 sinks - all had plenty of hot water with good pressure. Standpipes for drinking water seemed adequate in number and all working. I didn't visit the onsite shop as Cheadle is only about 5 minutes down the road and boasts a Netto, a Somerfield, a pet shop and other necessities (also has some decent pubs, apparently). I also didn't visit the bar/games or pool area so can't vouch for those although agree with other reviewers that the old Hall could be fabulous if restored. Campers should be aware that the on-site bar does mean that you are likely to get groups of young (teens/20s) people or families with teens on-site and you should expect a certain noise level and late activity as a result. We camped as far away from the bar as we could get and were undisturbed. Kid's play area was small but looked quite adequate to me - swings, climbing frame and slide plus small footie field with goalposts. Given that there were always small kids playing on it when I walked past I can only assume they were having fun! I don't know if there is any facility for freezing ice blocks on-site - it wasn't relevant to us this time round so I didn't ask. My main complaint would be that there weren't enough bins or places to dump rubbish on-site. The owner was very good about driving round and picking up bags if you left them by your tent but if it was a bit windy this wasn't ideal. Site is dog-friendly, although they ask that dogs are kept on lead and cleaned up after. There is a smashing little angling lake just a couple of minutes walk up the road to Cheadle that was very nice for letting our dog have a runabout when the anglers weren't there. In the opposite direction a short drive will take you to some National Trust owned woods that are a dogs/ramblers paradise! The posh reclamation place across the road is worth a visit too I gather although we didn't get chance. Other: Local ice-cream van comes round the site mid-to-late afternoon and does a roaring trade. I'd go back - I really didn't find anything serious to moan about given the price / rating despite being there the best part of three days, some of it in the rain!

We arrived at Hales Hall not knowing what to expect and fearing the worst after reading the reviews on this site. 1st impressions were good, site looked nice, and Cheadle just down the road. We then checked in, the reception staff were very friendly and helpful and prices were fair too. We pitched our tent and decided to have a look round the site, 1st port of call were the toilets, found these to be nice, with background music playing constantly to add to the atmosphere. Next was the park, not the best park but the kids loved it and that's all that matters, kept them quiet. On the night we decided to visit the upstairs room where there was a disco on for the kids, again kids loved it, we then went to the main bar downstairs where there was a karaoke on (that explains the rain). What a great night, the people in the bar were very friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. On leaving the bar we went back and sat in the gazebo and had a few more drinks, most other campers were doing the same, there was a bit of noise from others but not enough to cause a nuisance to anyone. The next day we visited Cheadle, not much there really, but you have to visit these places to find out what they are like. There are 3 supermarkets so you wont go short of barbeque foods. Right opposite the camp site there was a museum, (which was free to enter) it was rammed full of antiques and bought back many memories, well worth a visit. Anyway I've bored you enough, so all I can say is don't take other comments as gospel get out there and look for yourself, of all the sites I have visited the staff and the people here were definately the most friendly and helpful I have met. It's not the cleanest site I've been on but it's good enough, and Alton Towers is just down the road. We will definitely be going back soon!

we are on this site permanently and use it most weekends and find it very friendly. The toilets and showers are cleaned every day and the club is always laying on entertainment. It is also a pet friendly site. A small shop but the supermarkets are only down the road. I recommend it to anyone with kids, pets ,or for fishing.

August 2005 A disappointing bank holiday visit, other submissions have discussed the camps unfriendly staff, we found the site manager helpful if overworked. The Police were called at one stage to the site to break up trouble, which appeared to kick off after 11:00, an ambulance was called also. Which is worrying, when we had young children in our group. There were large groups of youths and load music late into the night.
The site could be lovely, the Hall may be run down with broken windows and worn decor, but still has character, the pool was closed for our visit due to vandalism but again has the potential to be nice, it didn’t appear too cold. The shower blocks were consistently dirty, although the ones by the pool when open faired much better. The Children’s playground is a little worn out and the shop is inadequate for around 1500 campers on site.
The location is very nice, Cheadle is an adequate and functional town, the reclamation works opposite is pretty noisy as well, the pitches don’t appear to be in any order and the allocation is pretty ad-hoc which may contribute to the general frustration.. We still had fun, but wouldn’t go again, as this wasn’t suitable for children or the camper after a quite or relaxing stay.
Its a shame, because I have been to many camp sites with far less potential, the staff work hard to keep the site tidy, but it does seem a losing battle – there is a lot of rubbish. In fairness – there is little consideration given from other campers on this site and that must be as frustrating for the staff as it is for those who have come to enjoy the lovely scenery and character if the area.!

August 2005 From reading the reviews on here I wasn't looking forward to staying there, when I got there went to pay and found the lady at the desk very friendly, the site was generally quite tidy, there were the odd bits of rubbish around but wasn't too bad.
The toilet block wasn't immaculate but it was ok for the amount we payed which was £14 for the night and 2 adults, 1 tent. There were a few tiles missing here and there, the general toilet block was lightly dirty with mud etc.
Otherwise the camp site is pretty good, staff were friendly.
Idealy located if you are going to Alton Towers, simply walk out the gate, turn right, follow the road to the houses and there is a bus stop where the 32A bus runs on the hour every hour to Alton Towers.
