We all loved this site - especially the dog! The site is perfectly placed within the forest with miles of tracks to explore either by foot or by bike. There are several dedicated mountain bike trails.
On arrival we were given the choice of several pitches so had a drive around before choosing one of the four pitches just on the left above the reception. We did occasionally hear some road noise but because of the layout of the site you would hear road noise from most of the pitches. Think that these were pretty new pitches as the grass around was only just growing. Positioned as we were we did not hear the cockerels and peacocks as mentioned by other reviewers.
We did not bring our satellite dish as based on previous reviews we did not expect to get a good reception but we did get a few channels on our directional digital aerial so maybe next time will take a chance with the satellite - we did see a few people with dishes but don’t know how good their reception was.
Showers and toilets were as you would expect - plentiful hot water and clean and tidy. Didn’t find it a problem having a code for the toilet block - we have experienced this on many other club sites - you are each given a slip of paper with the code on so it is no trouble to keep in your pocket if you are unable to remember the code! This does ensure that the showers are kept to a high standard. Washing up area also excellent with 4 sinks and drainers and again plenty of hot water.
Also near the toilet blocks was a very good information centre with maps on display and lots of leaflets for attractions in the surrounding area.
As previously mentioned the reception/shop is only open for approx one and a half hours daily but this was not a problem for us. I think in the event of an emergency the site wardens are around and about for most of the day.
There was also no rush for us to leave on departure day - we asked if we could stay later and this was no problem at all, it meant that we could make the most of our last day.
Would definitely visit this site again - in fact we think it will become one of our regular sites as the walking is superb, especially if you have a dog.

Brilliant site spotless in every way, showers, toilets and washing up room. Very friendly and helpful staff. Really quiet location would definitely recommend to others and will be returning soon.
100% in every way including cost. Faultless. Very good location for mountain biking and walking. Always hot water available day and night. Staff always willing to help even out of hours.

Just returned from 3 night break at this site and thought it was great.
The site is in a dip surrounded by trees so tv reception is just about ok but no chance of satellite reception.
The couple running the site were very friendly and helpful. We were sited very quickly and efficiently. Plenty of space between units.
The toilets are very clean and the showers were hot although my wife thought they were a bit cool in the female section.
The only thing I found annoying was the long toilet code which I could never get to work.
If you walk through the gate at the rear of the site into the dog walking section and turn right you can walk for miles though the woods and into the chase.
We bought the 5 mile walk sheet from the site shop and completed the walk. We managed to see a small fawn near to a golf course towards the end of he walk.
There are also plenty of bike routes through the chase where we saw another deer (full size)buzards, jays, greenfinch etc.
Just down the road is Rugeley for shoping. Cheap meals at the Weatherspoon there.
No pub in handy walking distance and the road at the site entrance is very busy and narrow.
Would definitely return to this site.

What a lovely site. We managed to get a cancellation booking for the august bank holiday.Admittedly the worst pitch on site but that did not matter.
The site was full but it did not feel like it.Lovely and quiet. The shower block was immaculate.Had a shower with kidsd bout 7pm and warden was there cleaning them (don't get thsat with CC - avid member that we are).
Would we go again - definitely. There might be no kids play area. But our kids were happy building dens in the surrounding woodland - what more can a parent ask for than imaginative play.
Only moan is that the hard standing pitches are not big enough to hold a full awning.Small price to pay for a lovely site.

We have just returned from a lovely week on this site. I was a little apprehensive being quite close to Birmingham but was pleasantly surprised. The surrounding area is beautiful and there are walks and cycle paths directly from the campsite. There is plenty to see and do in the area although I couldn't find out much before our visit.
The site itself is well kept. The code key for the toilet block keeps out other walkers in the area. The toilets and showers are kept to the standard one expects on a CCandCC site. The gate is kept closed at all times but didn't cause us a problem. It is a very quiet site which suited our needs but some families with children felt there were restrictions on children playing games. The site shop is limited with only selling essentials but there are many nearby supermarkets. There are many local pubs giving very good value meals.
It is a site I would recommend for those who want a good quiet site in an area with good walking, cycling and history.

First time at this site and must say it was absoluetley fantastic.
Yes the long code for the toilets and the gate having to be closed was a bit of a pain, but it was a small price to pay for a beautiful scenic site with walks and bike rides in abundance.
The staff are not over fussy and are very helpful at advising you on places to go. The site itself is spotless, and the toilets are first class.
The dog walk was the biggest I have ever experienced, my little jack Russell lost an inch in size by the time we got him home.
Would recommend a visit to the Cannock Chase visitors centre if you enjoy walking, for 30p you can buy a leaflet with the walks clearly marked from 2 miles to 5 miles of really breath taking views.
All in all really enjoyable would return.

This is a Camping and Caravan Club site which seems to make the fees slightly higher than other sites we have used recently.
The gates at the entrance are always kept shut which is a little annoying, especially when on our way out we were waiting for our friends and the warden closed the gates behind us when it was obvious that we were waiting for somebody!
The facilities block is very clean - it is key coded to ensure that only site users can gain entry. There is a parent and child room which isn't brilliantly laid out but has a toilet, sink, changing mat, baby bath and big jug which is useful. You need to put down a £5 deposit to obtain a key.
The site itself is very sloping and many of the pitches have trees overhanging. We experienced some torrential rain during some of our stay and there was a lot of standing water on the site - drainage is average. There is some disturbance from road noise and a neighbours noisy peacock - though we didn't hear the cockerel that other reviewers have mentioned!
There is no play area for children and ball games are not allowed. A play area would be a welcome addition.
There is a small on-site shop located within the reception selling basic food items, ice creams, maps of the area, tent pegs, citronella candles etc however this is only open for two 1 1/2 hour periods each day!
I did get the impression that as non-member campers we were viewed as rather inferior to the majority who were caravanners or motor home owners, though the wardens were very friendly.
The site is in a fantastic position though and is worth a try.

Its the first time at this site . The location is great if you want to go walking / cycling . The old Roman fort is a stroll away and is apparently the highest point of the chase. You have no chance of getting a satellite pic or even digi tv ( quite a few had a go and ended up putting their dishes away ) however we had a good DAB signal ( planet rock )Its weird that the site is quite high up but actually in a hollow ?
The heart of England way is clearly marked and the chases visitors centre is a couple of miles away . The commonwealth and German war graves are unusual due to the fact that friend and foe from both wars are buried in the same plot . The forest centre and `Go Ape `are a bit further along . The only `Gripe ` about the camp site I had was the code for the toilets was to long to remember ( why do you need a code when your miles away from anyone ?) and the showers were only warm. The good thing was due to the poor TV reception. Everyone was talking to each other . Haw! the good old days !

Basic but very good facilities.
Had hard standing with hook up. Pitch size good - not too close together.
Great location in the heart of Cannock Chase (trees in every direction, lovely!). Only a few miles from home but I felt as though I could be anywhere.
Helpful, friendly staff.
Excellent, clean warm toilets/shower block.
Would certainly go back there again - highly recommended.

I have camped at this site several times. That obviously speaks volumes. It is easy to find yet feels secluded. The site slopes gently and the grass is in good condition. The toilets and showers are clean and there are enough to go round! The site looks lovely due to the chalet style buildings and being surrounded by forest. It lacks family facilities, but that's fine by me. The site is quiet and small, but well maintained. Cannock Chase is well worth exploring and has lovely walks and a few nice pubs dotted about. I recommend the site, as long as you don't mind the slightly formal attitude and club rules.
