When I tried to book at this site, the owner refused advanced payment saying that he is a man of his word and booked us on 'our word' and that he trusted us to turn up. Trust is something that is worth so much in this day of 'non returnable deposits'.

We stayed at Abermarlais caravan park, the road into the site is a bit rough, but it is surrounded by well kept grassy areas. Reception is on your left, the shop stocks the basics, bread is ordered fresh every day. The pitches are quite level and are mainly flat (without bumps). The main camping field has a stream along one side which access is blocked by tall grasses. We had hours of fun with an old airbed and a length of rope.

The toilets and showers were clean but basic. Hot water was warm, there are two sinks to wash up in. When we went the site was quiet so washing up was easy, towards the end of our stay people were queueing up for nearly 15 mins.

My wife said the site was boring, but the kids and I enjoyed it.

I highly recommend this site for its friendly atmosphere and the 'I am a man of my word' attitude of the owner.

Beautiful countryside, and please do try 'Daly's diner' just up the road, the food is very good and the prices are reasonable.

Very good site, full when we visited. Lovely and flat with a small stream, woods and play ground for children to play in. Dog friendly. Showers hot and clean. Easy access just off the main road. Will be visiting again.

Small shop on site main shops in Llandoilo and Llandovery. Red kites feeding station close they can be seen flying around the area.

Visited over the May Bank holiday, had rain on the Saturday, but didn't bother the children, they had a fab time the park kept them totally amused for the whole weekend!

The site is very well kept and the owners are friendly but not at all intrusive. The showers were lovely and warm and very clean along with the toilets.

The dawn chorus woke me every morning but totally worth being woken up for it was amazing, we were also lucky enough to see a pair of red kites flying above us, this has encouraged us to visit the red kite feeding station, which is close by and very reasonably priced. The shop is not bad but there are plenty of shops close by, also the shop carries lots of tourist info which is very handy.

This is our first visit this year, but we went twice last year, and are on our way again the weekend, as it is so very reasonably priced, cost a family of 5 with a tent £13 a night which is VERY cheap!

All in all a fab site and we cant see ourselves going elsewhere.

We went to Abermarlais for a week in August and were very impressed, the campsite was beautifully kept and was excellent value for money. The water taps were not far from any of the pitches, the bins were emptied reguarly, the toilets and showers were clean and bright and the kids loved the play area where there were swings(also baby swing)slide, monkey bars etc. Although we didn't have a dog with us there were lots of people with dogs and plenty of walks for them all around the campsite and through the woods.

The stream and woods were beautiful even though it had been very wet, we were still able to walk all the way around and wash the mud off in the stream, there was a lovely swing and den at the very top which the kids loved.

The owners were very friendly and helpful and took great pride in Abermarlais. We went to Pembrey country park which had a FANTASTIC beach, it was about an hours drive but well worth it,with sand dunes, forest, play area, small railway, miles of cycle tracks, a really good day out. We visited Lluest horse and pony trust just outside of Llangdog were we spent a lovely couple of hours and my daughter adopted a pony, a fantastic charity that really needs your help and donations, they have open days and will also let you visit at other times if you phone to arrange. Gelli Aur country park was another good ,cheap morning out.

The only thing I would change or add would be a baby bath or family room as its quite difficult to give a 16 month old a shower without getting soaked yourself! Also take some insect repellent cause the mozzies came out once the sun did! We all has a great time here despite the rain and would recommend this site completely.

We were very impressed with this site. The lady behind the desk was extremely friendly and helpful to the extent that on day one she advised us that if we were to get stuck (it had been raining heavily) not to worry, just to let us know and she would fetch her tractor, then on day two she said we could go onto a hardstanding if we were concerned about the rain, which we did.

The facilities are spotless, I was very impressed with them, also with the layout and surroundings of the park, there were some walks although we didn't do these because of the weather, including a bridge over the river that runs through the site.

There is a shop, I don't think it sold alcohol but certainly plenty of other things to get you by and there is a Co-Op in Llandeilo (about 5 miles away) and a Tesco in Ammanford (about 9 miles).

For July I thought £10 a night (no electric) was excellent and no extra charge for showers, always a plus! It is about 7 miles from the kite feeding centre in the Black Mountains.

All in all a very nice relaxing stay in very pleasant surroundings despite the weather. Recommended.

We have recently returned from a 4 night stay , apart from the weather we had a lovely couple of nights. The site is well kept, the shower blocks were always clean, they are quite basic, but plenty of hot water and there was no extra charge for this. The site is a bit quiet if you've got children, there is a small play area and a net to play tennis, but no other amenities. If you like the peace and quiet then this is the place for you, it has a lovely shallow river running alongside the site, which is low enough for children to paddle in, although watch out for the horseflies as I was bitten whilst I was there! The site owners were really friendly and we are going back in August for a couple of days.

Spent 4 nights at this site and really enjoyed it. The site is peaceful and quiet with a stream running through it and nice walks around it into the woods. The toilet block was maybe old fashioned but always clean with several toilets and showers and sinks. Washing up sinks are outside, which there are two and there is a sink with a small hose attached to the tap which we used for cleaning our muddy boots.
There is a small shop selling basics on site, and the nearest main town is Llandovery. The main road is near but all we could here at night was the running of the stream and the occasional owl and the dawn chorus was spectacular! I've never heard so many birds singing. If you walk around the sites wood across the stream you come to a really old tree with a swing attached to it and kids can paddle in the stream if they wish.
The couple who run the site are helpful and everything, including bins which there are plenty of, is kept tidy. It cost £14.00 a night with electric hook-up which is well worth the money.
Places to visit are the Red Kite Feeding Station and Gelli Aur Country Park and we also visited Three Cliffs Bay which is about an hours drive to the coast but worth it. All in all, a lovely site. If you love peace and quiet and listening to the birds sing, and birds of prey flying above your head then this is the site for you.

I won't bore you too much but just to give the latest update on this site which is still exactly as the other reviews state; good, clean shower block, beautiful setting with bubbling stream and pretty wood to walk in.

The Red Lion in nearby Llangadog does very good food and beer (it's in the Good Pub Guide for 2009) - the Telegraph Inn is a bit 'local' (everyone stopped and looked at me as I walked in!) and doesn't do food.

Only downside is the main road - although it is a good 100 metres from most of the pitches, it's strangely noisy until quite late. However, not a serious enough issue to not stay here.

All in all, a great site - highly recommended.

This is a fantastic site. My two children aged 5 and 9 loved paddling in the stream with their fishing nets. There were so excited on our first evening to find the tree swing in the woods that we had to go back nearly every evening.

We stayed for 2 weeks and had a great holiday. The owners are so friendly and the site is quiet and very relaxing. There aren't a lot of rules and it is very child friendly. Also, very reasonable, we only paid £11 for 2 adults and 2 children without electric hook up. Great to have a shop on site too and we found all the wash facilities to be good.

The only down side is that it can get very muddy when it rains but that's camping!

Just spent the weekend at Abermarlais. Stunning location, nice big camping area surrounded by woodland and a little stream.

Pitches were a nice size and closely mown grass. Toilets and showers and quite dated in my honest opinion, but nothing to moan about. Clean and nice and hot. Only quibble would be to have a shelf in the shower cubicle.

Went on a nice country walk, which lasted almost 3 hours! Amazing views though.

Well worth a visit.
