This was our second visit to this site. It's divided into smaller bays separated by hedges and shrubs. On arrival there is a friendly welcome from the wardens. The pitches are a mixture of hardstanding and grass and there is a small area set aside for tents. It's a quiet site, apart from the birds which go to and from a nearby lake! However, on this second visit there was the sound of exploding shells and gunfire from the Otterburn ranges which went on quite late into the night.
The facilities were kept to the usual Caravan Club high standards and are one of the nicest ones we've come across with spacious showers and domestic style tiling. There is an area for ball games away from the pitching areas and nature walks by the river - all part of the site. There is a good little shop at the garage at the end of the lane plus a cafe/bar which offers takeaway food. Supermarkets in Alnwick. The site is well placed for exploring Northumberland and the Scottish Borders.

We visited this site for week with 2 other families and thought it was wonderful. The wardens were very friendly and the facilities were the best we've ever come across. The only downside for us was the Caravan Club rule of not saving pitches for friends is strictly adhered to. Even though our friends explained we were only about 20 minutes behind them, they were not allowed to reserve a pitch for us which resulted in our being separated. Know it's CC rules but it was a bit frustrating, particularly as the 3 outfits that split us moved on after 1 night. We could have moved but we'd already put the awning up.
The site was further into the countryside than we realised and, at first, this was a bit of a disappointment but we soon found our way around the area and, with the help of SatNav, saw loads of lovely views and nature on our travels.
We went cycling in the immediate area but, as mentioned by another reviewer, had to paddle across the river with our bikes as the bridge was destroyed by floods last winter. This just added to the adventure for our kids! River Breamish itself runs very close to the site and we spent a most enjoyable afternoon letting the kids play there as it was very clean. The 2 dogs we had with us loved the river too!
There is a petrol station at the end of the road with a well-stocked Londis shop which is very convenient as it's an easy walk from the site.
Alnwick Castle and gardens are around 15 minutes drive away and are both worth a visit (you can buy a combination ticket). Bamburgh and Seahouses are both around a 1/2 hour drive away and we walked along the beach from Bamburgh to Seahouses which is around 3 miles and very pleasant. Getting onto the beach at Bamburgh Castle is quite a hike over the sand dunes though.
Northumberland is one of our favourite places in the UK and River Breamish is certainly a site we would heartily recommend and will hopefully go back to in the very near future.

We went over the Spring Bank Holiday week-end, and although the site was full, it was very quiet and spotlessly clean.
We have stayed on quite a few CC sites and this is definitely one of the best.
Although the journey of just over 150 miles to get there was a bit too much for a week-end, it was well worth it.
Our 2 border collies, Jake and Bruce, absolutely loved the surrounding area. We took them up to the waterfall and they had a wonderful time swimming and paddling in the river. The downside was that they sulked for the rest of the evening when we got home.
This is one of only a few sites on our list of must return to, but we will go for longer next time!

I agree with the previous reviews, this is a marvellously appointed site with friendly wardens. One point which maybe of interest for people like us who like to walk from the site instead of taking the motorhome, the local footbridge over the river is still closed. The river flooded eight months ago and has washed the bank away and the footbridge stands marooned in the river and does not connect with the southern bank, you need a four wheel drive to cross the ford. Locals are of the opinion that the bridge will not be restored for some time, if at all. We did ford the river with mountain bikes but you need to be happy about getting your feet wet. An alternative route for walkers is to take the foot path that leaves the lane before you reach the bridge, the path crosses the fields and then contours around the hill following the line of the river into Ingram Mill and onto Ingram village. Walking the footpath from the site to Ingram took us three quarters of an hour.
There are excellent possibilities for mountain biking in the area, the track up from Ingram to Prendwick is very ridable and allows access onto the higher moorland.
Emergency ice creams are available at the National Park Centre in Ingram.

Our third visit to this site and we have already booked to go back.
Really nice site wardens friendly and helpful.
Toilet/shower block one of the best we have ever used, considering how busy the site was on one of our visit it was spot less.
Walking really nice in the area.
Garage/shop at bottom of the road keeps everything you could need and its not too expensive.
Couple of pubs in the village however never used them so cant comment on what they are like.

This site is great the kind that you pitch your caravan get out your deckchair sit back and give a sigh of relief. The day we arrived there was a red kite day on site for the kids and they loved it, drawing pictures and learning all about the birds. The toilet block is new and looks great, loads of room between pitches. Lots of wildlife on site including lots of toads from the ponds on site, we had to remove toads from are awning on more than one occasion. The area has some lovely walks and national parks. We will be sure to return when next in the area.

Well-run very clean site - plenty of space at this time of year! All the facilities were spotless.
Ideally situated in heart of Northumberland for visits to coast and Cheviots + local walks on the doorstep. Alnwick is a fascinating market town with castle, gardens and great treehouse (!) about 20 minutes away by car.
Other favourite destinations included The Cheviot, Craster, Dunstanburgh Castle ( must be one of the finest coast walks in England ) and Lindisfarne.
Convenient good value local shops + food nearby.

Chose this site as our first go at caravanning. Took our big white dog with us. It is a very nicely laid out site and the toilet/washing facilities are excellent. Prefer the pitches on the perimeter rather than in the centre. Dog walk very handy but area for letting him off the lead is very small. Very happy with our 3 days stay and we will certainly return.

Just got back from our first visit here. We went this weekend to tick it off our list, seeing as it's on our doorstep, half an hour away. Had a great time! The wardens were very helpful and friendly. The toilet/shower block was the best I've come across.
Ground a bit damp - but that's rain for you!

This site is one of the best kept sites in the area. The shower block is the best(and warmest)I've seen. The wardens were extremely helpful and full of local knowledge. When we stayed for a week in April the weather was freezing, with a heavy covering of snow on our first day, this actually added to our trip and made for some lovely pics. The surrounding area is great for walking with some stunning scenery in the nearby Northumberland National Park. I have never experienced so much wildlife on a caravn site. We actually saw an otter as well as a white owl taking off with a field mouse in its claws. The site sits right next to a large lake which is jam packed with migrating birds, the only downside to this was the racket when the wild geese took off around 6am.
Highlight of trip was a visit to nearby Cragside House and estate which is only about 7 miles away, you can quite easily spend an entire day here exploring house and grounds. This is a National Trust property. Entrance fee of £12 per adult is steep but free to NT members.
Best local food found was the Tankerville arms about 4 miles away where the bar meals (£8.95 for 2 courses)were of Egon Ronay standards
There are also 2 pubs in the nearby village of Powburn only 10 minutes walk which serve a lovely Sunday lunch
