Cracking site, away from it all good for R&R, lovely beach, quiet situation.  Visit botanical gardens Port Logan but avoid Stranrae   - Wanted to book for a short break but they no longer allow tents shame - so won't be visiting this little gem any more.

What a lovely site. If not a bit secluded.the nearest facilities are at Stranrear, which is about 20 minutes away.
A vast array of pitches from pitches by the sea to secluded pitches. Our children and dog have had a fantastic time. The wardens are friendly and very helpful.
The toilet blocks are immaculate.my only complaints being that the cold water tap runs exceptionally hot water before coming cold (watch out with little ones for scalding) and the hand drier is directly above the hand basin - so when you turn on water you get a blast from the hand drier! Needless to say these are our only gripes.
The pitches are spacious.you can pitch as you like including sideways. We did have to use levellers but some pitches did look quite level.
The play area had enough to satisfy my children but the main attraction for them was the proximity to the beach!
A fantastic time had by all!

The previous reviewer hit the nail on the head. The only difference this year is that everything seemed to be working OK. The wardens maintain this site in superb condition.

We took our motor-home to Pitch No. 131 - this is level without the need for chocks and, even better, it sits within its own little bushy bay, being tucked away around a corner off the Little Scare. The peace and quiet was deafening. Another 3 pitches nearby were equally secluded, but we couldn't get level on one of them so we moved to 131.

Some of the pitches seemed a little sloping, but they do have some hard standings and the grassy pitches mostly seemed level enough.

The MV waste point was easily accessible, unlike many sites we've visited.

Although the school holidays were in full fling, we were aware of no noise at all. A few teenagers did create a little bother on one late evening, but the wardens responded immediately the next morning and the minor irritation caused wasn't repeated.

This site is equal to the best of Caravan Club sites (which are always good) with the added bonus of direct access to the beach and to the surrounding outstandingly picturesque Galloway countryside.

A super site if you like to "get away from it all". Quite a long drive through Dumfries and Galloway although the A75 is a vey scenic and much improved road with by-passes around most towns and villages.

The site is beautifully located adjacent to a long sandy beach. It is is in unspoilt countryside - only one house in view! The site is well broken-up with dunes, bushes and areas of longer grass and so not regimented. Lots of electric hook-ups, water points and CDPs. There are lovely sea views from some pitches,ie, further back from the beach. There is a small tenting area adjacent to the beach.

The wardens were all very friendly and helpful. The information room is very informative! The pay phone was unfortunately out of order all the time we were there. Mobile phone reception, Virgin, was VERY variable and generally poor.

We stayed for a couple of weeks on the front row just across from the beach. The seaview was partly obscured by a bank of low dunes but could still be seen from inside the van, but not in the awning - too low. The beach could be a bit windy and unfortunately we didn't have brilliant weather. The pitches were very large with lots of room for the awning.

There is access to the beach for cars with boat trailers. Lots of people had boats. The bay looked ideal but unfortunately our boat engine was playing up!! Very helpful boat shop 5 minutes drive away at Ardwell.

The toilets were clean although only 2 blocks and so a bit of a walk from some pitches. One of the laundries was out of use for the whole of our stay, broken boiler, and so it was hard to get the laundry done - Cary resorted to going late at night!! Tumble drier iworks out VERY EXPENSIVE -£1.60 to dry a machine load, ie, 4 lots of 40p.

The camp shop sells basics and can order newspapers for 10p delivery fee. Fish and chip van calls on Tuesday and Friday and Tuesday. £4 for fish and chips - very tasty but very slow and long queues - an hour wait on one occasion. Fresh fish van calls on Wednesday - listen for the van hooter! Good games room with table tennis and pool. Good children's play area.

Nearest village of Drummore is about 3 mile away. A very good general store and small post office. The Kirkmaiden village centre is staffed by local volunteers who are very knowledgeable about the area. It has lots of tourist info and internet access at only £1 per hour with free printing included. Church of Scotland in village very friendly.

There are lots of lovely works and cycles in the area. The Mull of Galloway is very interesting. We climbed to the top of the lighthouse, open weekends £2 adults, £1 children. A lot of stairs but a super view of Isle of Man and Ireland. Lovely coffee house with cliff view near lighthouse. Port Logan is very picturesque.

Stranraer is an interesting town with good shopping facilities. Lidl, Morrisos and Tesco supermarkets. Good for day trips to Ireland by ferry.

We would highly recommend this site and certainly think of returning.

 July 2005
We visited this site for 6 nights in July this year. As stated in the description, it is divided into several intimate pitching areas. This makes it seem more like a small site with a quiet, freindly atmosphere. The pitches along the front tend to be taken by families as this is nearer to the play area. There are also indoor facilities for the children (snooker table etc).

The pitching area called "big scare" is slightly higher than the others and has great views over the mainland, across the bay. One of the 2 toilet blocks is also in this area. When walking around, we found some lovely pitches, not visible on the initial drive around as they are not directly off the road, but hidden behind some hedging. I would suggest you park you car and explore the site on foot before deciding where to pitch. These secluded pitches were tucked away, large, grass, quiet and in a cosy little area towards the centre of the park and on the left of the road. No views of the bay from here though.
Don't forget your rock pegs. The ground is very hard and you will have no chance of getting a normal peg in. You may also need to consider levelling blocks as some pitches (ours up in "big scare") are on a slight slope.

You can walk directly from the site onto the beach and many people had boats etc to launch. The site has a boat washing area.

We were initially put off by "no dog walk" however, this was not a problem. The beach is so close, most people exercise their dog there, although sadly not all clean up after them, even though bins are provided. There is an outside cold shower for washing sand off after the beach, rather than mess up the indoor facilities. We used this to shower the dogs.

It was very very hot weather when we stayed and you would be wise to take insect repellent. There are lots of midgies in this area.

The site has a small shop selling essentials, but what was really nice was the local produce. One of the wardens goes fishing, catches fresh mackrell and then gives this free to the guests on the site. A local chap selling fresh whole crab for £2 visits weekly. The fish and chip van visits on a Tuesday and Friday (we had already lighted the BBQ!) and a van selling fresh raw fish visits on a Wednesday.

The nearest supermarket is in Stranrear, 12 miles away. Head for the ferry terminal and you will find a Tescos tucked away to the left.

We will certainly visit this site again, although it is a very long drive for us (took 7hrs to get there). It is very clean, quiet, great views, clean beach, friendly staff and peaceful seclusion.

 June 2005
Just spent five nights here and I have to say it really is an excellent site. There are only eight piches here for tents, the rest of the park is taken up by caravans. If you're camping in a tent though, don't let this put you off, as you really do feel quite secluded and the tent pitches are right down by the beach. You are protected from any winds by a slight bank, separating the pitches from the sands. Toilet facilities were clean and free. There a small shop on site and you can order morning papers. There is a fish and chip van that visits the site twice a week and serves excellent fish and chips. We paid £11 a night. That was for two people, a car and a two-man tent. If you're after peace and quiet then this is the site for you. Perfect! Oh! And there are loads of birds, so if you're into that kind of thing you'll love this site.
