Arrived during one of the most scorching sunniest weekends so far this year. Was allocated the lowest field with a choice of hook ups in that huge field each with picnic table provided. Had the Whole field to ourselves Friday night. Two others pitched either side for Saturday night only. But seemed miles away from us because of the space allocated between each pitch. On our own again in the field on Sunday night.
Toilets clean except when used by other guests returning from beaches expecting others to clean up after them Shower/Wet room is an art keeping your clothes dry and then putting them on without touching the wet floor. Would have thought an extractor fan would have helped reduce build upon ceiling mould. No real views from site because of high trees but loads of bird life in trees gave a feeling of peace and quiet. So great place to go to unwind and relax without crowds. Never needed to queue for showers and toilets despite several tourers and statics in top field beyond the vines, using the same block of 2
Felt the owners had missed a great business opportunity by not providing a shop on site, for basics like Icecubes, Welsh Charcoal, Milk and local cheeses.
The garage outside the farm was useless in that matter. Hoottons about 2 miles away was OK but pricey. Walked to Beach from site because of awning attached to van. Big mistake involved walking along busy main road then down through wild flower meadows and on down the side of the forest. Where every horse fly in Wales must live, a real nightmare of a walk till we reached the beautiful beach, that stretched for miles. Don't attempt to come back over the Warren unless you have a good sense of direction.
Will always remember after getting back from this hike, sitting with ice-cold ciders back at the Ty Groes after a lovely hot shower, sunbathing outside the tent in a field all to ourselves listening to the radio commentary of Andy making history at Wimbledon.
Now we know what the site has to offer. We both agreed we had a really relaxing peaceful time and both agreed we would like to return to the site again soon.

We stayed for one night at the beginning of June to try out our new tent, we had read the reviews of this site and thought it sounded very good. We weren't disappointed.
The site is very easy to find, once there you ring the owners and they will show you to the pitch which is very safe and secure through the farm. We chose a pitch on the lower of the two fields, we had chosen one with a hook up and were the only tent there. There was a very slight slope but this didn't trouble us. In the middle of the site is a strip of land that contains vines for the vineyard so we were below this. The toilet facilities are small but absolutely spotless, the cleaner seemed to be there almost every hour. The site is very quiet with owls to hoot you to sleep at night.
There aren't any walks straight off the site as the road is very fast and very busy but Newborough beach is only 10 minutes away and is very clean with a warden and new toilet block.
I have read previous comments about the hook ups blowing but we managed with lighting and heaters without any issues.
All in all a very nice site - we would definitely return.

I stayed 2 nights may bank holiday, quite easy to find satnav takes you there ok
The sites quite basic but it was all I needed. There was no hot water to wash dishes in, only saw the lady once but I'm sure they would have sorted it out.
There's a great walk though the dunes down the road there's miles of them supposed to be the largest in Europe
There is a village about a mile or so with shops chippy bar

What a little gem! We have just returned from 3 nights at Ty Croes and have had a great time.
The sat nav took us right to the campsite, which is extremely well maintained and with great views of Snowdonia.
The pitches are huge, and even with someone next door, you aren't on top of each other.
The facilities comprise of:
2 x toilets
2 x coin operated showers
1 x handwash basin
1 x full sink
1 x separate pot wash sink
They are functional and are kept spotlessly clean. The owner and their family were seen throughout the day cleaning them. There is a mop and brush outside so you can clean up after yourself too. And even though the site was quite busy, there was rarely a queue for any of the facilities.
Newborough beach is fantastic, as is the beach and dunes at Aberffraw. We also fell in love with Hootons - the BBQ pulled pork sandwhich is a must, as are any of the homemade cakes. We also stocked up on supplies from the farm shop.
We will definitely return to Ty Croes, and thanks to the owner and their family for our warm welcome.

Ty Croes offers a wonderful camping experience, fantastic views from every angle, and is a very family-friendly environment.
The family who run the campsite are friendly and are more than happy to help in any way they can. They take an active part in running the campsite by cleaning the shower blocks every half an hour, and there is always someone available to help with any inquiries you might have.
The campsite provide a starter-pack for fires, including firelighters, logs, kindling and a lighter, and they are happy to deliver to your tent.
Showers are well kept and clean. Take a bag of 20p's with you, as showers take 20p per 4 minutes of hot water, or you can put in a pound coin.
The views surrounding the campsite are beautiful and they add to the campsite's atmosphere, which overall is a quaint, homely feel.
The nearest shop is a petrol station which is located just outside the farm, though the closest shop for local produce is 'Hootons' which located about 2 miles away. They also serve breakfasts, lunches, and teas.

Happy few days here, using the fire starter pack, drinking the local red wine, admiring the views of the mainland from the top of the field, driving down to Newborough blue flag beach, walking in the nearby woods, eating at the Marram Grass cafe and other nearby good places to eat and visiting the historical monuments. Caernarfon's not too far away and there's a Waitrose by the bridge too. Wasn't too busy when we were there but still some kids for our kids to play with. Lovely.

Before arriving: they were most gracious in putting up with my constant harassing phone-calls!
Upon arrival: Sat-nav brought us straight to the gate, where we were very warmly greeted by Harry, and then later Helen (and her three children!). Nothing was too much trouble, we were able to camp anywhere we wished (and we chose possibly the best spot on the site with stunning views of the Snowdonia range! There is more than enough decent choice to site yourself, though)) and they took the time to come and make sure we were settled in properly.
Camp-fire: We chose to buy the camp-fire starter kit for £10 and it was an absolutely fantastic experience teaching my 9 year old daughter how to responsibly light and manage her first camp-fire (this was also her first 'outdoors' experience). Helen delivered the kindling and logs straight to our tent.
Electric: We also opted to have the electric hook-up (3 pin plug at one end, and 3 x three-point plug sockets the other with a built-in RCD - available from any decent camping outlet)- at £2 per night extra this was a bargain! This was useful for my wife's travel hairdryer and the travel kettle, too. Make sure you only bring 'travel' versions of electrical equipment, as the normal versions will probably overload the system. We also charged our mobile phones and iPads successfully overnight.
Showers / Sinks: The two shower units require 20 pence coins, and each 20p gives you hot water for 4 minutes - more than enough time for most men, I suggest the ladies may require between 40p - £20 (at least, if you are my wife it will be £20)! Have a stash of 20p's to hand for this. There are also two sinks to brush your teeth or have a wash, etc, with unlimited hot water. Always kept very clean.
Toilets: Again, very clean, there was plenty of toilet paper in each of the two toilets (but I still would advise taking your own, just in case!). These are just like the toilets you would get at home rather than any portable type, etc.
Washing-up: Next to the toilet/shower block is a sink for washing up with unlimited hot water, and also some useful leaflets for things to do in and around the area.
In a nutshell: We would (and definitely will) return again in an instant. It may even become our 'usual' spot for camping. The owners are fantastic, the site and facilities are brilliant, and the price is very, very reasonable. I would say do not bother trying to find something better. Whilst driving around other 'better' camp sites, I found them crowded and wholly inadequate compared to Ty Croes. 10/10 for everything at Ty Croes!
By the way, the site also has its own vineyard, and I believe you can buy the products. I didn't on this occasion, but will definitely do so next time!

Really enjoyed our 4 days.
Absolutely fantastic location, with stunning views of the Snowdon Mountain range.
Very quite, awoke to a ton of birds singing each morning.
Showers - new shower / toilet block was open. Only two showers / two toilets so does get busy at times, but very well kept and clean. Showers took 20p pieces, the dial tells you that a 20p piece gives you 4mins worth of hot water, and that was pretty accurate so very cheap.
Washing, free hot water only one sink so again gets busy. But clean and tidy.
Camp fires. Surprisingly, your allowed to have a fire directly on the grass. For £10 the very lovely owner (Helen) will drop off one bag of kindling, two bags of logs, fire lighters and a lighter! Great value and they lasted us the four nights.
Not a lot to do on site, which is fine as it keeps it quite - there a loads of things to do near buy such as the Sea Zoo (small but decent and interesting), Newborough beach (Pebble/sandy beach) plus others.
Well worth visiting Rhosneigr beach on a sunny day.
Overall, a great location. Well worth a 2nd visit.

Just returned after spending Jubilee weekend on this site.
Beautiful site.
Amazing Views.
Warm friendly welcome from Helen.
Newborough beach is lovely and just up the road is Rhosneiger beach which is AMAZING!
1 shop 3mins away but not huge and quite pricey.
Brand new shower block with 2 roomy showers and 2 toilets. Kept very clean.
Lovely little kitchen area for dishwashing.
Lovely pitch on top field but had a bit of a slope in or tent which caused a bit of stumbling.
Will be back there soon.

Not impressed and probably would not go back again. It's a very large site although that is not immediately apparent as over a number of fields you can't see.
The loo and showers were too few for the site when busy. There were often queues. The pitches seemed quite small. I objected to having to pay to use the shower when I have already paid £20 for a pitch.
Also there is nothing really around it you can get to without using the car. Overall not that happy and will sty somewhere else next time we go to Anglesey.
|
Management response: We had no complaints or opportunity to discuss any issue raised by this family. All campsites are busy at bank holidays and our pitches are larger than the Caravan and Camping Club regulations. We advertise all charges on our website, including that we charge for showers. |
