Myself, husband and 3 children stayed here for 4 nights and had a great time. The site was surrounded by countryside and lots of bird life. The children enjoyed watching the small animals including goats, turkeys, chickens, geese and kittens.
The toilets/showers were extremely well maintained and always clean, as was the undercover washing up facilities. We made use of the fridge also as we didn't have EHU but there were EHUs if that's what you want.
Co op was 5 mins drive down the road and large Tesco 10 mins drive, if walking it was a little further with no pavements for some of it. The road noise was noticeable at times but not enough to bother us.
Plenty to do and see in the area if you like the great outdoors! Onsite Ahmed and Martin sold goodies like smoothies, cookies, cake, chips, chutneys, curry and of course eggs!
Parts of the tent field were slightly sloping but hardly noticeable and there were caravans and tents alike with 4 or 5 resident tourers. The bmx track looked great fun and I believe they are to install a small play area for the kids.
All in all a great little place and we will definitely be going back.

This, as the reviewer below points out is a gem of a site!
Being local(ish) to the place, we have stayed here 3 times for weekend breaks in the last couple of months and look forward to the visits. The owners are extremely nice and friendly and really down to earth.
You are welcomed and nothing is too much trouble if you ever need anything. The site itself is spotless having seen one of the owners walking around picking up any tiny piece of litter several times a day and keeping a check that all the other facilities are clean and up to their high standard!
Ample amount of toilets in my opinion. Three visits, and have never had to wait to use the loos or pot washing sinks!
The guys are doing a great job here and we are going back again v. Soon and looking forward to it as usual.
Shops are a couple of miles up the road with all you could want. Home cooked meals seem to always be available at the campsite too!
I recommend the chips they do!
Highly recommended site.

This is a gem of a site. The owners are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Add to this the very reasonable pitch tariff and you have a winner in my book.
This is a larger site than its CS status would suggest. Pitches are available over three adjacent fields and are mostly level, although there are a few on fairly significant slopes. The site is well kept with some nice views over countryside and a footpath running just beyond the boundary for some pleasant walks.
There is no children's play area currently which would definitely be a bonus although there is a BMX track which seemed popular. Pitch sizes are reasonable and although fairly busy during our visit, the place didn't feel overcrowded.
Some pitches have EHU and there are a couple of hard-standing pitches. The site accepts caravans, motor-homes and tents.
Facilities are basic and limited to a single shower and a couple of toilets for both male and female campers. The facilities are in porta-cabins and are kept very clean by the owners, hot showers at 20p per 2 minutes.
My only gripe was that the shower and toilet cubicles were small. Not so good if you're well proportioned like me. Also, the portable cabins are set on a patio with a step up of about 6-8'. Not a problem for us but those with less mobility may find it difficult. There are two undercover washing up sinks with free hot water and a communal fridge/freezer for ice packs and the like.
The owners keep geese and chickens which adds a rustic feel and they sell free range eggs. The owners also offer home made smoothies, cakes and some hot food to buy. The cakes are to die for and although we didn't try the hot food, it smelled fantastic.
Location wise this site is about 5 miles from Mansfield, and less than 2 miles from Rainworth which has a selection of take aways and a co-op. The White Post pub is about a mile up the road and is nice for a meal.
There is a chinese restaurant again about a mile away which has a good reputation locally. For the kids, there are two activity parks within 5 minutes drive or a 15 minute walk (Wheelgate and White Post Farm Park), both of which are good for a day out. Being where it is, the site gives good access to Sherwood Forest and the surrounding area's.
We did have a bit of an issue with the Electric hook up, but this was sorted out quickly.
Overall, I would say a nice site. Quiet and peaceful but within easy reach of many attractions. I only live a few miles away and would certainly both return and recommend.
The only reason I haven't given 10/10 is the lack of play area and the limited shower/toilet facilities.

Phoned Lurcher farm on the spur of the moment as the weather forecast was fairly good for the weekend. As with all the earlier reviews, I cannot really add any more except to say, we have stayed at many sites in this area and Lurcher Farm is so far the cleanest, smartest and most peaceful we have stayed at.
Martin and Ahmed have done a fantastic job, as for the BMX track, it kept our 14 year old son occupied the whole time during our stay, as did Ahmeds homemade cookies.
Our son cannot wait for our next visit, there is so much in this area to do, be it a junior theme park 1/2 a mile from the site or a visit to the historical Southwell, or cycling at Sherwood Pines, the list is endless.
Just had to book another weekend at Lurcher Farm in June, as to good to stay away.
Like I said, keep up the excellent work on the site and thank-you for making 2 days a great memory.

The site is set out over three nice sized fields with two hard standing pitches
Even in the horrific rain our pitch on grass coped well and appeared to be on good well drained soil.
Pitches were spacious with plenty of room between each unit.
Showers and toilets were immaculately clean with fresh hand towels every day and lovely soft loo roll. Showers were 20p for 2 minutes and good and hot with decent pressure. Smelt pleasant at all times too!
Pot wash was undercover and again immaculately clean.
On arrival our pitch was clearly marked with our name.
Bin area was again nice and clean as was the elsan point and waste water disposal.
We visited Southwell workhouse on the Saturday which was a pleasant trip out.
Lurcher Farm cottage is very near loads of things to do and would be an excellent base for people wanting to explore Nottinghamshire.
Our only regret is that we didn't get to taste the curry and forgot to buy some lovely fresh free range eggs but we will definitely return very soon.
Fantastic site a real credit

We spent 10 days here over Easter and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The site consists of 3 fields. We were lucky to get a pitch in the first which is very level and has been developed with a gravel road and some hard standings. The second field has some seasonal caravans and is used as an overflow for caravans and tents. The final field can be used as a play area and dog walking area. Running along the back of the site is a bmx track. Our 2 boys (9 and 6) had a go but it was too tricky for them. I would say that it is best suited to teenagers.
Currently there are 3 toilets and 1 shower on site. A second shower will be built shortly. These are in portable cabins which are immaculate. Martin cleans the facilities several times a day. There is also a undercover washing up area with 2 sinks and free hot water. This is however provided by electric heaters which makes filling the sink a very slow business! There are bins for recycling.
There is plenty to do in the area for families. The highlight of the holiday for our boys was a visit to Wheelgate park which is 1/2 mile down the road from site. It is quite expensive at £44 for a family but we spent a whole day here. The site is also in driving distance of Sherwood Forest, Clumber Park, Sherwood Pines, Ferry Farm etc.
Overall we had a fantastic stay at this site. However over the Easter weekend the site became very overcrowded with 15 caravans/motorhomes plus several tents on one evening. This really stretched the facilities too far and we felt that units were pitched far too close to each other. Once the weekend was over it returned once more to the peaceful CS we had chosen.
We would definitely recommend this site but probably advise people to avoid the bank holiday weekends. Martin has plans to improve the site further so it should get better still.

A group of half-a-dozen UKCS members stayed here for a 'mini-meet' in March 2012.
Lurcher Farm Cottage is a small camping and caravan site a few miles east of Mansfield in east Notts. The area was once part of Sherwood Forest and the surrounding countryside is flat farmland.
The campsite lies a mile or so from the A614 Nottingham-Doncaster road on a lane leading west from The White Post roundabout. The entrance from the minor road is signposted but is easy to miss (approaching from White Post roundabout, look out for a line of conifers on the left just before a bend) and it's a fairly tight turn-in for towed caravans.
The immediate surroundings are open arable land flanked by confier woodland. To the east, the land falls towards the Trent Valley and is fairly flat so the area is open to the wind. Trees form a windbreak to the east of campsite but there is little, if any, protection from westerly winds.
There are hardstanding pitches on the first field and grass pitches in the central areas for tents. At the time of our visit, the majority of other visitors were in caravans and motorhomes - our group's were virtually the only tents there. The owners appear to live on site and are attentive.
The first field has EHU (electric hook up); all pitches look as if they are within reach of a standard length cable. The pitching area is fairly level with well-maintained grass. Pitches aren't marked and although the soil itself is soft there are quite a few stones in it so sturdy pegs would be advisable.
We were allowed to park our cars next to our pitches but as there were half-a-dozen of us in a small area we left some of the cars on the gravelled driveways.
Two metal portakabins house the loos and showers. These were clean and well-maintained throughout our stay. An opensided covered washing-up area has sinks and the recycling and rubbish bins are adjacent to this. Hot water for washing is provided by small electric in-line heaters which provide a rather slow supply.
Open fires are not allowed on any part of the site and barbecues must be raised off the ground. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead and are charged for (there is a dog exercise walk directly from the site).
The village of Rainworth is two miles west and has a Co-op and a Nisa as well as a few other shops, fish and chips, and pubs.
A mile east of the campsite is The White Post, a large pub with an inexpensive restaurant. Our group dined there on Saturday evening and the food was cheap if uninspiring.
In summary, this is a well-maintained small campsite set in pleasant, if rather dull, countryside.

Just had a couple of nights here as a base for visiting Sherwood Pines for the mountain biking and we'll definitely be coming back.
In Martin you would be hard pushed to find an owner more helpful and friendly. If he didn't do this job (as well as his fruit and veg) he should get a job in customer services. The world would be a happier place.
At the moment the facilities are simple but adequate and well looked after. Only one shower but they are in the middle of setting up more (still didn't have to queue though). They have more toilets but with us having gone up/down in the world from tents to a campervan we didn't need to make use of these so I can't comment.
Nothing for kids yet unless they are into BMX as there's a track at the bottom of the field where even 'grown ups' can make fools of themselves.
Martin did say that they are putting a play area in but I don't know how far off that is.
If you are into mountain biking, Sherwood Pines is an easy 6 miles away so this works as an excellent base.
The local pub is only half a mile or so down the road (as long as you turn right out of the campsite Claire/Mandy) though we only got to savour one pint there as we had to head the 2 and a bit miles towards Rainworth to rescue our better halves.
Pricing was spot on at £26 for two of us for two nights with EHU and dog and the fact that the shower was free was a bonus.
We didn't sample Ahmed's food but it's definitely on the cards for our next visit given the reviews we've seen.
Keep up the good work guys!

Spent one night here. Received a very friendly welcome from the site owner who explained about the site and its facilities. We selected a pitch towards the bottom of the site. We were very pleased with our site selection, the site was very well kept and the facilities were spotless, a nice touch was an outside lamp near your electric hook up point.
The site is in the process of completing another heated shower and toilet unit, this should be up and running shorlty which will compliment the existing unit which contains one toilet, sink and a shower cubicle. Spotlessly clean.
There is a washing up area with hot and cold water and two sinks, along with the usual bins and elsan emptying point. There was also a fridge which I'm sure would come in handy during the warmer weather.
We also purchased some eggs from the owners own chickens, be sure to ask for some.
We would certainly recommend this site and we will be visiting again, hopefully this time for longer.

Just had 2 nights at the site, Martin the owner is very friendly and made us very welcome; he had left a plaque to show where we should park up. The site itself is very easy to find and well sign posted, there is currently just one shower and toilet with others currently being prepared, it is a lovely quiet clean site and at £24. 00 for 2 nights with electric you cant complain. A couple of children's small theme parks near by and the whitepost pub serves excellent value meals, buy one main meal and get another free. We will be returing to the site for sure.
