Prospect Farm, 'The Friendly Site' it really is, has room for 5 mobile units and a separate field for tents, the toilet facility is clean and the motor vans service area perfect, further improvements are pending by the owners, fresh eggs every evening brought round by charming children.
The local village Thornton-Le-Dale is picture perfect, really nice walks by the stream which runs through the village. The local shops a minute away include a butchers who will keep your purchases in their refrigerator for collection later while you continue shopping on a very hot day!
An hourly bus service to Pickering and Scarborough which you can use your bus pass.
We will visit the site again, YES.

Echo everything said in previous reviews. Super site run by a super, friendly family (Sue even apologised for the cold weather!) Went into the Buck on Friday night to watch the football, friendly place, no issues with taking the dog. The Friday and Saturday night saw campers enjoying drinks and chatting which was OK but did get a little noisy after midnight which I would not expect of a quiet site; this however, did not spoil our enjoyment.
Would certainly return, to try one of the walks we did not get chance to do

The location is just great, very close to the village centre where there were some lovely cafe's and two really nice pubs. The New Inn was warm and welcoming with really good food, but the staff at the Buck Inn were just as friendly.
There are lovely dog walks and Dalby Forest is just a few minutes drive and is really great for bike rides etc.
The owners of the campsite are so helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. On setting up the airbed we discovered we had no lead to inflate it, the owner promptly came with a kettle lead that ensured us a comfortable night!
There were fresh eggs every morning, from the hens and ducks who have the run of a large field, you couldn't get much fresher or free range!
We didn't have children with us but all those children that were camping at the same time were clearly having a great time as this is such a child friendly place. There is a trampoline and a rope swing, plus two lovely children Tom & Henry who befriend every one and don't mind that we used their shower in their own home!
Fellow campers were friendly too, some of whom even helped us to pack up our tent on the morning we left, for which we were grateful as it was huge!
Overall we can't praise this campsite and the owners enough and we think its one of the best sites we've been on, even though it's small and not quite developed.
We would prefer to keep it to ourselves as once people know about this place it will be hard to get a pitch, but in truth we would definitely recommend to anyone, couples and families alike, and are hoping to be back again later in the summer.

This is a little gem of a site, hidden away in the delightful village of Thornton-le-Dale. You feel as if you're in a rural retreat, but are only a few minutes walk from shops, tea rooms and country pubs.
This family-run site is small, quiet and well maintained - just right for our small family. The owners - and their children - were welcoming and helpful and, as others have commented, make their shower room available whilst they're developing a shower block. The ducks and hens in the adjacent paddock do their bit too, their fresh eggs make a perfect camper's breakfast!
Coastal towns of Scarborough and Whitby are only 20 minutes away and Thornton is a great base for exploring the North York Moors. We saved the £7 toll for Dalby Forest by walking there from the site - a very pleasant amble too! Next time we'll have to take our bikes, although the owners are considering bike hire from the site, which would be great.
It's very child friendly: all the kids on the site made use of the trampoline and rope swing - including our teenage daughter! And even though it's only a week away to the football world cup, it was great to see the kids coming together for the more summery sport of cricket!
Prospect Farm is definitely worth a return visit, so we're going back in the summer hols - maybe ready to tackle the cycle trail!

We visited this site after recommendations by friends. It is situated right in the heart of Thornton le Dale and is only a minute or so away from the local Cost Cutter.
The site is divided into two halves with caravans etc one side and tents the other. Setting-wise it is excellent with superb views.
The owners were extremely friendly and couldn't do enough to help and offered to freeze our ice blocks for us overnight which was good.
We had two kids with us who had a fantastic time on the large trampoline and we felt that they were safe at all times.
The site itself isn't very flat which isn't ideal for tents and there is a small toilet shed (very clean) and a portable loo on site. There is no hot water however there was the option to use the shower inside the owners house.
On our first night there was a crowd of lads who made a racket until 3.30am and we complained to the owners who immediately asked them to leave the site which was great.
Overall a lovely friendly site and setting but very basic facilities.

Te owners were very helpful and friendly. The site was perfect for us as we like to go biking. It was a quiet site ideal for people to chill and go for walks. We will definitely be returning again.
From the site you can easily walk to the fish shop or even eat in a cafe, there is also a costcutter 2 mins down the road easy to walk to.

What a find, a site so convenient for all our needs. Dog walks, local eateries and watering holes all within 200 yards of the village centre.
The facilities are all first class and about to get better for campers with new toilet/shower blocks planned for later this year.
Hosts very friendly, and couldn't do enough to help you, fresh farm eggs available from Tom, who also likes to lend a hand. Only stopped the weekend, but have already booked another in June this year.

This was our first foray into camping, and we couldn't have chosen a better place to take the plunge!
The location was ideal, in the middle of picturesque village of Thornton-le-Dale, and it was an easy drive to lots of attractions on the coast. A lovely traditional pub with delicious food was just a minute's walk away and there were plenty of shops to browse.
The site was spacious and friendly, and the family bent over backwards to help us novices out! They were deeply apologetic that the outside hot water wasn't working yet, but invited us into their own home to use theirs instead which more than solved the problem! Two young budding entrepreneurs (the children of the owner) provided us with very fresh eggs laid by the hens which made a lovely breakfast.
There was plenty to do, and next time we'll definitely be taking the dog as there is a wooded area at the top of the site which will be lovely for walks - we might also be tempted to break out the bikes and taking one of the trails suggested by our highly knowledgeable hosts.
We can't wait to get more use out of our new tent, and will be heading back as soon as possible - cannot recommend it highly enough.

We arrived on the Friday to a very warm welcome and helped onto our pitch by the owners who were kind enough to reverse our caravan into place as we had a bit of a struggle. The campsite is lovely and clean and very well kept.
There is a toilet block with a sink area but at the moment no hot water. That wasn't a problem as we were able to get hot water if we needed it from the bungalow. All the facilities were checked several times a day and kept in pristine condition. There is a new shower and toilet block being built on site which is going to be great if its anything like the showers in the bungalow which are being made available to all campers until the new shower block is ready, which I thought was very kind, given the fact that its in there private space.
On the campsite they have hens and ducks and a steady supply of eggs all the time, they have a fantastic dog walk around the adjacent woods and walks from the campsite. We also had the pleasure of being lead on a guided tour around the North York Moors for a day by X-Trail which are on site. We had a fantastic day and the guiding and tuition is the best I've ever had. The site is situated in a fantastic location smack bang in the middle of the village, you can almost touch the pubs and local facilities.
All in all its a fantastic site in a fantastic location run by a young family where nothing seems to be too much trouble, and when they have the new shower and toilet block completed at the end of the year it will take some beating. We have already booked our return trip just to make sure we can get in! Thanks again to the family of Prospect Farm. See you in July.

Wow. Fantastic place. Short weekend stay in a tent. This is the only campsite actually in the touristy village of Thornton le Dale, which meant it was ideal for keeping busy over the weekend. The site and village feel rural and 'away from it all' enough but the proximity to the village meant local amenities were well within walking distances so we didn't need to use the car once. (However, there are plenty of attractions within a short drive for a longer stay - Eden Camp and Flamingo Land for example and only 30 mins drive from seaside at Scarborough)
Owners were very welcoming and friendly - and along with the fresh eggs from their hens on the next field, it all felt a bit Famous Five and was exactly what we like when camping. Kids loved the family feeling of the whole place.
As for facilities, it's very clear that these are being developed and yet again, the owners couldn't have been more helpful. We're hoping to go back there very very soon.
