Initially we were only due to stay at Latchett Cottage for 3 nights but we ended up being there for 7! This was mainly due to the atrocious weather conditions that we encountered during mid July and the fact that other sites in the area with grassed pitches were waterlogged & unusable.
This site typifies what a CS should be all about – laid back with good basic facilities.
Latchett Cottage is situated the quiet village of Chiddingly midway between Uckfield & Eastbourne. Five recently enlarged hardstanding pitches are available overlooking the paddock & adjoining fields. Electric hook-up, water & chemical disposal are all close to hand.
The site is well served with footpaths, tracks & bridleway and the long distance paths of the Vanguard Way & Wealdway run close by. Whilst the village has the Six Bells pub, a short cross country walk brings you to The Gun at Gun Hill which we would recommend. They have a series of pub centred walks called “Walks of The Gun”, some of which actually come straight past the site.
During our stay, we used the site as the base for our forays down to the coastline at Eastbourne, especially Beachy Head, the Belle Tout lighthouse, the Seven Sisters and Cuckmere Haven.
The hospitality of Jane, the owner, was superb. Nothing was too much trouble, especially when we had to keep changing our plans due to the previously mentioned issues with other CS/CL’s. Jane’s dog, Rufus, kept us entertained chasing his ball when out in the paddock for his evening exercise.
In conclusion, Latchett Cottage ticks all of the boxes of our CL/CS requirements and we would thoroughly recommend it for a restful stay.

Our 3rd visit and our favourite weekend bolt hole (though actually we always wish we were staying longer!).
It's a fantastic little site, situated in a beautiful quintessential English village with great pub (bands at the weekend), and lovely countryside walks.
The owner is lovely and always a pleasure to see and will advise on local walks, etc. There are 5 hardstanding plots with grassed areas in-between for a few tents. You do need to have your own sanitation.
Looking forward to many return visits.

Just returned from a weekend at Latchetts. It was our very first outing with our new caravan for a test run prior to holidays further afield.
Latchetts is in a lovely position along a quiet country lane. All 5 pitches are hard standing and level with electric hookup. We couldn't have asked for much better!
The only small complaint would be the muddy temporary path to the water and waste disposal point but I understand that the site has only been up and running for about 8 months so, as problems arise the owner is dealing with them.
The owner is extremely friendly and laid back - in fact we had to call at her house to offer payment before we went home!
We didn't visit the local pub but tried the Golden Cross which is opposite the BP garage where we turned off of the A22 (5 mins drive). A lovely pub - just refurbished. Food excellent. Loo's lovely!

We had the pleasure of staying at this camp site this September, we had 2 motorbikes and one tent. Although the site is basic ie no shower block DONT let that put you off. The site is very clean and well maintained with good hook up points for those of you with caravans etc. If you are staying in a tent there is a hard standing loo to use with a sink with hot water to have a wash in ( tent users are usually well prepared for no facilities we were so there were more than enough for us). This is a wonderful little site. The lady who runs it couldn't be more accommodating and helpful and the site itself is a picturesque, peaceful, joy to stay at.
Off the beaten track but close enough to the A22 to make it perfect for days out to Hastings, Battle, Eastborne and Brighton this site was ideal for what we wanted. There is a local 24hour Spar shop and garage 2 minutes down the road by bike or car on the A22 and the local pub, the historic 6 bells,is 1 minute away on foot. They serve great food there.
We will be going back as soon as we can book some more holiday time, we highly recommend it.

I had the pleasure of staying here and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The owner could not be more obliging and was very hospitable. The countryside is picturesque with views to the South Downs and there is plenty of walking in the close vicinity - there is the Vanguard way and the Weald Way which links to the village of East Hoathly where there are other useful amenities. The Six Bells in the village provides very good food and there is always bands on there over the weekend.
This is a rural location and off the beaten track and great for that peaceful getaway. I would recommend that you give it a go; you will not be disappointed.
