We have just returned from a four night camping trip at Pentwyn Farm owned by Thomas and his family. Although the weather always plays it's part in making camping enjoyable from the first moment we arrived Thomas was friendly and really accommodating and keen to here how his facilities could be improved. The grass was neatly cut and the toilet and shower blocks were clean and tidy and the view from the top field was stunning especially at sunset.

The only advice I could give to Thomas is to consider putting a freezer in the kitchen so campers could keep their ice packs frozen as we had to buy a bag of ice each night. Great location, great site, great bloke.

Advice to other campers is to make sure that you take mozzie tablets especially if staying in the bottom field or going for a walk by the river. Lastly Thomas is keen to see a good local pub nearby but the family owned pub in Llanfrynach wasn't really it. The waiting staff were fine but the owners were a bit pompous and I got the feeling that they were trying to attract a different clientèle rather than the humble camping walker and it's dog. Prices were high and the food not up to standard. I paid a lot less for a lot more in some of the more friendly pubs in Brecon. Altogether Pentwyn Farm is a great place to chill out but will get busier as reviews like these are left.

The Pentwyn site is beautifully located at the foot of the Brecons. Small, quiet and tranquil it was the perfect retreat. Access is along a very narrow lane, anything wider than my VW T5 campervan will struggle. Satnav does not help, this site is well hidden and at present the websites do not show good maps.

The facilities are very good, basic but modern and clean and well maintained, The two unisex loos and the single, but spacious, shower could get very congested when the site is busy - we were lucky to have the site almost to ourselves.

Overall a great place, friendly owners and excellent value, ideal for those who only want the basics.

What a cracking little find this site was! Very hard to find - don't trust the SATNAV as ours took us to the wrong side of the valley! It is an ideal walkers camp, with fantastic access to the Brecon Beacons. It even has a lovely stream which was perfect to paddle in and soak my very achy feet after a long, hot walk on Fan-y-Big!

On arrival, the owner was extremely welcoming and stayed that way for the entire visit, always willing to help. The camping field was well maintained and campfires were encouraged. The owner even provides the fire pits and wood (wood for a small charge!). However, my only concern if the site was to be busy, there is only one shower and two toilets, but the owner assured us that this has not yet been a problem. It is 50p for four mins in the shower (another min would have been better). The toilets (which always had plenty of loo roll) and the showers were always lovely and clean and of a good standard.

Would not recommend for small kids but for us it was ideal! very reasonably priced.

Wow! We have had the most amazing camping experience with beautiful sunshine at an equally beautiful location.

This site is a must for anyone wanting a nice quiet site (we were a small school group carrying out expedition training in the local area). The pupils loved the fire pit and ate marshmallows and chocolate bananas. They hung out in the snug room near the toilets and shower room and played down on the lower field and paddled in the stream.

We saw buzzards, kite's, and listened to the sounds of the woodpecker. We watched the sun go down and the moon come up over the horizon. We headed out from the site on foot and walked up Fan Y Big and took to the forest of Taly Y bont to view the waterfalls. This was the perfect location to explore all that Brecon has to offer.

Thomas Jones and his family were friendly, knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble.

This site is truly a hidden gem and one that I shall return either through work or with my family and friends

 Headline.

Clean Shower and Toilets. Nice owners. Great location.

Detail

Sloping site with few completely flat areas but can find a level enough area.

Access to lower field ok for 4x4 or car in the dry but otherwise park at top.

As we were there over Bank Holiday weekend it got busy but was still quiet.

Access is up narrow lanes so take it slowly.

Summary.

A really nice site in a great location and CLEAN shower and toilets.

We will go back again.

Pentwyn Farm camping site is gorgeous. We camped in the lower field, next to the stream. Our view was the lovely Brecon Beacons and luscious woods with a crisp stream running through. The farm is situated at an intersection of a number of hiking trails and this allowed us to run and hike from the camp. The owner is very nice and helpful. He keeps his camping facilities clean and in working order. We will certainly return again.

This is truly camping as it should be.

A beautiful and quiet site in an idyllic position with tempting views of the Beacons. We found it an ideal base for walking in the Beacons and I would imagine it's good for cycling also.

We stayed in the camping field which is next to the farm house & facilities. The field is nicely divided into two parts; the upper part with views of the hills, the lower part by the stream (fenced off but accessible if you want). We opted for the upper part of the field to enjoy the views and the breeze and also to be closer to the toilets.

There was loads of space as the owners seem to very sensibly believe in keeping the camp site very low impact which allows campers to spread out nicely. There is wood for real camp fires at a really reasonable price and a bag lasted us for a good roaring fire each night.

The facilities are clean and simple, but all with a nice charm about them. They are reached by a short stroll across the farm yard which is no problem at all.

We loved paddling in the stream and clambering over the rocks, this was a really nice way to cool down after a hard day walking up the hills.

All in all, Pentwyn Farm is cool camping as it should be. Just hoping that it stays exactly as it is as we will no doubt return.

Fantastic small site in the middle of nowhere!

Care needs to be taken that not too many people find out about this glorious place! Facilities may be limited (2 toilets, 1 sink, 1 shower) but they are spotless. However you wouldn't want hoards sharing them. And the site would lose much of its charm if crowded. Lovely to be on a proper working farm, with really friendly trusting and all round delightful owners too. Although they have accepted caravans for years and years this is their first foray in to camping, and so a couple of suggestions have already been made (a separate washing up sink, and for both this and the inside sink to have hot water available) but these were very well received. And although there is only one shower it is a nice large wet room meaning sharing a shower with the children is made easy and 2x50p coins easily did all 5 of us. So much easier than faffing about in small cubicles with toddlers!

Don't come here for the kebab van, playground, and all mod cons. Come here for the bird song, the river to play in, the view of the beacons, the camp fires, and the solitude. If you want peace though don't come when we are there as my children will spoil the peace! Sorry to all concurrent campers. We had a lovely 3 days despite the weather (why is the best weather always when you have to go home?) and hope to be back! I have to add that it was fantastic value for money too.

A quick note on safety - the river is fenced off, and so the camping area is safe for small people. We had a glorious hour or two playing paddling and splashing about in the river today. You do however have to cross the farmyard to get to the facilities from the field. Didn't bother us, but might bother other people.

A final piece of feedback we thought of too late to pass on in person - you (that is the farmer!) may want to mark out some fire pits to save your field from getting demolished!

Pentwyn Farm is a basic campsite in a beautiful location. It was perfect for our weekend as we could walk from the site then sit in the evening by the fire (logs for sale on site) and enjoy the peace. Had it been a little warmer we would have gone down to the stream for a paddle. The camping field was recently mown. There is only one shower (50p) but it's huge so Mum Dad and baby could all share. The facilities are clean though you approach across a farm yard which may get muddy in the wet. The nearest shop is a 15 minute drive away. The site is approached by a tight single track road. The owner is a great host, friendly and helpful but not intrusive.

The best mistake my SAT NAV ever made. We had booked the weekend at a camp-site near Brecon, entered the post code and were taken straight to Pentwyn Farm. Confused by the name we checked and double checked, but SAT-NAV said nope this is where you want to be.

Trundled down a little lane to ask and the loveliest lady greeted us and explained we were a good half hour drive from the other site and gave directions. It was late. We asked was it possible to camp for the night. Of course, the orchard is full but the meadow is empty plus you can build a bonfire anywhere in the meadow.

We stayed all week and have been back time and time again!

Facilities standard for this sort of site. Would give more if they built a compost toilet.

The orchard is lovely, more for small groups or families, bonfires are allowed in set places to save the grass.

The meadow is great for larger groups away from small children or early nighters. I do believe they have a place to accommodate groups that may make noise till early hours within reason.

Be honest with them and they will do their very best for you.
