Just got back from a 5-night trip, and had a great time.
Currently the main gate into the site is manual, however, I believe the new entrance will have an automatic barrier requiring a code to be entered as I have encountered at other CCC sites.
Wardens were very helpful and friendly, and gave me an EHU pitch near a hedge so that I could get shelter from the wind.
They were very efficient dealing with any issues such as unauthorised access by car and ball game by newly arrived youngsters etc.
And the wind! Nothing to do with the campsite, of course, however, when it blows like it did on 14-16 Jul 2010, it really blows because of the open fields around the campsite. Luckily, my Khyam Freelander tent stood up thanks to the extra storm guys.
The toilet blocks were spotless as one would expect from a CCC site. The main larger block only has 4 showers, and I had to wait my turn during peak times at 08:00h on Saturday. No queue when I went at earlier times though. Plenty of hot water, however, water pressure dropped quite significantly when the next door shower was in use.
The reception area is quite small, and stocked basic items such as milk, eggs, bacon, washing up liquid, some tin foods etc., and a good selection of icecreams.
The site itself does not have a playing field or dog walk. However, Hudson Field which is massive is right next to the campsite, and my dog loved his daily walks and games. My low score for child friendliness is due to the lack of playing facilities on the site itself.
The walk into Salisbury was quite pleasant, and I felt safe on my own with my dog. Salisbury is definitely worth a visit, and I enjoyed my walk around the city with my dog very much. It is not new to me, as I only live in Devizes and have visited the city as a tourist on more than one occassion.
Plenty of shops and supermarkets in Salisbury should one need to stock up during his/her trip.
Stonehenge, Woodhenge and Avebury stone circle are only a short drive away from the site.
I did not pay to go into Old Sarum which is just a short walk from the site, however, I did have a nice walk around it with my dog.
All in all, my dog and I had a very nice stay at Salisbury, which is very convenient being only 45min from home.

We were greeted by two very friendly wardens one of whom cycled in front of our van to our pitch. We were only staying one night so had a grass pitch with no EHU (which were available as were hardstandings). The view of old Sarum was lovely and the ambience relaxing. The toilet block was clean and there were individual sinks in private rooms - an important feature for us. Next door a laundry room had maps and brochures about local tourist spots. In all this is a well run site which is excellent as a stopover when driving down to the West Country or to explore Salisbury and its surroundings.

We have recently returned from a 10 night stay at this site.
The site itself is well located on the edge of Salisbury and there is an excellent range of shops within a short distance.
When we arrived we were met by the site wardens and shown a range of pitches. The warden was very helpful in pointing us to the best pitch available. Although a little officious pacing out our pitch. The pitch was meant to be 5 m wide but once we erected our Biscaya 370 (3.7m wide) it only just fitted into the space allocated. Comments were made by one of the wardens about the size of the tent which didn't really start our holiday in the best way.
The site itself was great with a well stocked shop and very well kept toilets. Even as the site got busy there was rarely a wait for showers.
We loved the views over Old Sarum and some stunning sunsets.
It was noted by a few campers that the wardens were very quick to comment on the size of tents. This seemed to be aimed at campers as there were some very large motorhomes and caravans which didn't seem to have the same problems.
As a site for a longer stay we found it not to be the best as a lot of the visitors only stayed for 1 or 2 nights and so the site felt very transitory.
From what we saw we would say that the site was not child friendly as even when the site was empty small children were stopped from playing with balls and even from blowing bubbles. The comments we had from children were that this was not a fun site and there were no other facilities for children. Older children should be fine though as there is a large field next door in which they could play.
Finally the only disadvantage to being near the edge of the city was the road noise during the day which was very noticeable especially during rush hours.

We wanted to visit Salisbury at a site where we could either walk in to the town centre if fine or close to a bus stop so we could use public transport if not. This site fitted the bill perfectly.
Wardens are very friendly and extremely helpful showing us to a great pitch against the hedge alongside Hudsons Field. The toilets / showers were kept clean and we never had to wait. The only problem was that in the dark it could be difficult to see the numbers and letters on the combination lock – especially when you’ve forgotten your glasses!
The council are re-positioning the entrance to stop cars driving onto Hudsons Field so the view from the site is spoiled slightly but the view across to Old Sarum is beautiful. A walk to the old Saxon fort is well worth while but an entrance fee of £3.50 per person meant that we didn’t go in but walked around the ruined cathedral and up the embankment overlooking the town.
The Co-op is about 10 minutes walk away whilst Waitrose (treats only!) is 15 minutes in the opposite direction, half way to the town centre. The first part of the walk is not by the river and not very pretty but after crossing a bridge becomes much more attractive.
Salisbury itself is well worth a visit not only for the cathedral (£5.50) but also for its market and shops. Lots of places to eat and plenty of coffee houses make this a great place to visit.

The site was larger than expected. The staff were really friendly and someone showed us to our pitch. The site is spotlessly clean and the toilet and shower facilities are excellent. The laundry room had lots of information about things to do in the surrounding area and also had lots of menus for local restaurants and takeaways. Salisbury town centre is only 20 minutes walk away, much of the walk is alongside the river. Stonehenge is 15 minutes drive. We had a really enjoyable stay and would definitely recommend.

Location, location, location. In the case of this campsite location is everything, both of the good and bad variety. The site was easy to find and is genuinely walking distance form Salisbury along a route where regularly whizz by. A late opening Co-op is very close by. The Stonehenge tour bus stops close to the site which is a definite plus. The approach to the entrance is a bit forbidding through a large public park-type affair, although this must put off opportunistic trespassers (more on that in a moment).
Staff were plentiful on our arrival and we were whisked off to our pitch by a very interactive gentleman who gave us some good advice on how to get around Salisbury. Does the pitch itself come under 'location'? It was beside a hedge which gave good shelter and to our left as we emerged from our tent was the splendid vista of Old Sarum. Less splendid were the 70's flats to our right that loom over the site like a great big looming thing. The slope on which were were pitched was a bit too much for comfort and all the campervans would trundle past us on the way through the one way system. Drainage must be good though - a monsoon struck us on the first night there and the pitch stayed free of standing water.
The next observation may sound a bit picky. The toilets were clean and well designed on the interior. What was not so good was the code required to enter them. My first two attempts to negotiate the lock ended in embarrassing failure and I had to be rescued by someone coming out. I don't think I ever really got the hang of the system - have I pressed the buttons fully? How do I know the 'memory' of the lock was clear? Did I turn the lock correctly? - and when you consider the aforementioned distance the site is from the main thoroughfare it seems like security overkill.
Still, that may be a bit churlish. The site really is IN Salisbury, the facilities are fine (if confusing) and the staff were excellent.
Oh, and kudos on the shop. Locally farmed eggs - my wife thought they were heavenly.

We stayed here for 4 nights, the site was nice and clean and the toilets were up to usual standard but got a little dirty due to bad weather but this is to be expected!
The location isn't very rural but it is close to Salisbury and there is a nice walk up to old sarum.
The managers on the site were nice and friendly especially as they lent us an air bed at 9.30pm when ours decided to deflate!
We had a trip to longleat which I can highly recommend. There seemed to be a lot of short stays at this site with people coming and going all the time but this didn't disturb us in any way.
I would recommend this site but not if you want countryside even though the views were nice!

Just got back from 2 days at this site booked at the last minute. Facilities were fab, plenty of toilets and sinks which were clean. Only 4 showers in the ladies so a queue formed at peak time. Site was well maintained with plenty of space between each pitch, in fact they were very particular that there was the right amount of space between each pitch.
No ball games were allowed in the camp site but there was a huge field just outside the campsite for ball games. Not many pubs etc nearby but there is a Harvester within walking distance which was fine. There is a co-op close by for provisions although there is also an on-site shop but this closes at 5.30pm and has essentials.
The setting for this site is really nice and we had a great time camping with 2 kids (one who is 3yrs and the other is 5 months). Salisbury was lovely with plenty to do in the area.
Only v slight negative is that this site is a bit pricey, nearly £50 for 2 nights but I guess you pay for the nice facilities.

We spent two nights on this site. We did have slight difficulty locating the site mainly due to some road works going on at the entrance to Hudson's Field.
First impression was that the site was very well maintained although some units overlooked what seemed to be an industrial area, we were offered hard standing with a view of Hudson's Field and Old Sarum (well worth a stroll up to). This enabled the children to play in the field but within eye sight of us (as ball games not allowed on site). The staff were really friendly and helpful.
The facilities were very good and there was a small shop on site, however there is also a Co-op within walking distance, (approx 10-15mins).
We walked into Salisbury (approx 30 mins) this is well worth it as it is a lovely riverside walk, and a visit to Salisbury is a most. The site is also within 15 mins (driving) of Stonehenge.
Would definitely book again, although a little more pricey than others sites we booked.

Stayed on this site for 6 nights and also on two previous occasions. The facilities are very good and always clean. Very nice view of Old Sarum and the location is quiet. A number of residential properties are in view but is hardly noticeable. Unfortunately, on my last visit the wardens (one in particular) was very regimental/strict and often 'patrolled' to check if you went outside your pitch, even by a few inches. Although this is a good thing to ensure people do not take advantage I found this extremely over the top - often found my clothes horse moved and collapsed outside my awning by a warden, although it may of been a couple of inches outside the pitch area and not causing a fire hazard or obstruction. In comparison to a C&C club site in Nth Devon that I had previously travelled from the behaviour was the totally the opposite. Unfortunately, I feel this experience does not encourage me to want to stay at this site again
