A site that could be so much better. Not a bad location, with easy access to canal and river-side walks, and a pub at the site entrance (but beware - the landlord's customer service was very much like Basil Fawlty, but not in an amusing way) and another (White Hart - recommended) 300 metres away.
Taking into account our £4/day cost of electricity, which is entirely reasonable at today's rates, the pitch cost nevertheless was poor value compared to similar sites.
The site facilities are fairly lean for a site of this size, and rather spartan. Cleaning often took place at around 08:00 hrs. Which is frankly ridiculous as this is generally the busiest time. Availability and temperature of hot water was very variable.
Shower cubicles allow for showering only - drying / dressing must be done 'in public'. There are potable water taps and grey waste drains here, but toilet waste must be dragged all the way to the site entrance.
There is an 'assisted' shower room facility, but this room was also in use as a toilet consumables store - piles of toilet paper, hand towels and other items stacked along one wall. Frankly this is just a lazy option and discriminatory to disabled people.
Our pitch was fine - a good size and well located - but immediately behind were piles of builder's waste - just so unnecessary and obviously there for some long time.
As I said at the start: "A site that could be so much better. "

Really pretty well maintained site, good walks along the Trent, Idle and Chesterfield Canal.
As with most sites now (not their fault) reasonably price when not on electricity the good thing is you have a choice, an electric card can be purchased.
Enjoyed our stay will return- Thankyou

Facilities were more than adequate for our needs.
It was good that the electric was metered as we only used 2 pounds worth - I get the impression that a lot of sites are taking a stab or average of usage by guests to cover their costs which means that low users like us are paying more than the high users.
The owners were accommodating but I suspect that there is a bias towards their seasonal users.
Great Sunday lunch at the adjacent pub the Waterfront Inn.

Fantastic site, situated next to canal and river.
The grounds were very well maintained and clean.
The warden was very helpful and friendly.
There is a lovely pub with a fantastic beer garden at the entrance. The pub and club house at the marina both have bands on of a weekend.
The only downside was the shower block, it was very clean but you have to undress in a communal area outside of the shower.
Would certainly return here.

Great location for canal walks. Well kept, friendly and helpful. You need to pay a deposit for a token for the shower and gate fobs but you get your deposits back when you leave.
Check the times of the pub meals/opening because the two nearest weren't doing food on the Monday we arrived, but the White Hart was (approx 10 min walk away).
You might see that one pub does motorhome stopovers but it didn't look very appealing so we were glad we chose the proper site.
There was a bus service to Gainsborough passing the gate, but we didn't use it so can't comment on details.
