 Warm welcome from the wardens and lovely and chatty when I saw any of them throughout the week. I stayed on a pitch next to the beck, it was lovely and quiet.
Facility blocks are the usual high CAMC standards. The kids play area looked good and there was a room with a pool table etc. Mobile phone reception isn’t too great and the site doesn’t currently have club Wi-Fi. The fish and chip van takes cash as he can’t get signal for his card machine. Chips were very nice.
Nicely set back from the road the site has no road noise. The dog walk goes up to a track at the side of the wood, which makes a nice circular walk first thing in the morning when there isn’t much traffic on the road. Check dogs for ticks as I did find a couple on my spaniel from his hedge hunting!
Well placed for getting around the Lake District, not far from the M6 and easy access. Midway between Keswick and Penrith. Had a great week and would definitely return if in the area.

Nice site but very expensive - especially if you are not a member it is quite ridiculous.
Wardens very nice as always, facilities very nice, modern and clean but they need more than one very small hand washing sink by the toilets. Also only one soap dispenser and one hand drier.
No eateries to walk to (fish and chip van on some days) but lovely views and great forest walks from the site.

We often visit Troutbeck Head at Easter time. It is in a great position to visit the Ullswater part of the Lakes from (our favourite part of the Lakes for walking).
Access to the site is really easy. Just a short way from the A66 down a relatively wide road with good wide entrance and good "waiting" area on site.
Checking in was a doddle. Friendly warden, efficient but "warm". We got to choose our own plot and chose down by the beck.
All pitches are hard standing on gravel (so you need serious pegs if you are putting up an awning). I always find the pitches down by the beck slightly pinched. By the time you line your caravan up with the white marker peg and put your awning up on one side, there's not much room for your car on the other (especially if it is a big tug like our XC90).
The facilities are always spotless, as they were this time. Showers are a little weak for my liking but there was plenty of hot water and the loos were always clean and tidy.
This year the site seemed quiet. We arrived on Tuesday after Easter Monday and I would suggest that it was less than half full. We had booked for 4 nights on a standard pitch and it cost us over £160 (two adults and a teenager) - so it isn't cheap - may have been a factor in why it was quiet.
We had some bad weather whilst we were there and ended up helping another family man-handle their caravan from one pitch to another. Their original pitch (in the main camping area of the site) had flooded and so they were moving to a nearby (but slightly raised) pitch. Unfortunately their mover was also playing up. Apparently a number of pitches in the main area as susceptible to flooding so I am glad we chose to pitch where we did.
Dog walking is good there. There's a small area on site where dogs can be let off their leads but out through the site there are forestry commission roads where dogs an be let off too.
Mobile signal was patchy and no wifi on site (except around reception apparently - I didn't find or use it).
There's a games room (which we didn't use) and an outdoor play area for younger kids which looked good (our teenager was too old / "cool" to use).
We left the evening before we were planning to but that was because of Storm Kathleen coming (didn't want to tow back over the Pennines in 50mph gusts).
Overall a great site and no doubt we'll be back there next year too.

Lovely site, great views of Blencathra.
Excellent Fish and chip shop van
Very clean facilities
Helpful wardens
We love it here, always very friendly and helpful wardens, very tidy everywhere. Toilet and shower facilities are great.
Just a shame caravan club have pushed the prices up so much

Turned up at troutbeck site first so make sure you put the right one in the sat nav which and don’t trust the other half with it.
Lovely site on arrival, choose your own pitch, choose carefully as there is quad bikes frequently on the farm next door, it didn’t bother us too much though.
Can’t say much in the way of walks as our old dog had had enough the day before, but we enjoyed relaxing in the sun and listening to the birds.

Great welcome by wardens to this typical C&MC site.
The toilets were open good for them as C&c site at Keswick were shut and no reduction in fees. The facilities are very good and there is a small games room which of course was shut for covid.
The views from the site are amazing but best from the non serviced pitches. Walks straight from the site into the forest and onto the hills behind. This is big wild country.
Disappointingly the two local hostelries both within walking distance at Troutbeck and Dockray were all shut even though they could have served outside. Mountain bike enthousiasts try the Old Coach road part of the C2C which passes a couple of miles away from the site.
Amazing views and great off road track where we met a jeep safari.

A winter weekend break with our staff at Troutbeck Head.
Fantastic site recently renovated. Spacious pitches, modern amenities block and very helpful wardens.
Forest walks are minutes away and are great for the dog. A must visit.

Very well maintained, tidy & peaceful site. Lovely views of Blencathra (Saddleback). Of particular note are the excellent, newly-refitted (2018 Season) modern showers and toilet blocks - HOWEVER it does have a significant issue with mosquitoes, horseflies and (especially) tiny black biting midges (the type that are tiny enough, it seems, to pass through flyscreens. Arrrgh).
The answer, as we found, after being badly bitten for the first few nights - was to acquire a 'Jungle Formula' brand plug-in electric vaporizer (£8 on Amazon - the type that has a 2-pin Euro style fitment, so also grab a UK plug adaptor for another £2 odd) - and to leave it gently fuming away in the van (completely odourless) - the liquid reservoir claims to last for 45 days. (Happily) the first morning, after deployment - there were around 50 of the wee buggers in various stages of rigor mortis on the windowsill.
Also be aware that the on-site grocery shop is (for some reason) cash only. Equidistant for both Keswick and Penrith - at an easy 15 mins drive to each, the latter with several large Supermarkets (Sainsburys, Morrisons, Aldi, etc. )

Nice site but make sure you take insect repellent with you as there over run with miggies. Besides that the site itself is ok.
