A truly 5 star site. Everything perfect. Wardens ultra but genuinely friendly, stunning views from the pitches if you turn right after passing thru the site barrier, toilets and shower areas spotless. Sky t.V no problem.
Turn right out of the site towards Ullswater/ Glenridding. Again stunning views as you get your first glimpse of Ullswater. Car parks in Glenridding . The one were you catch the Ullswater steamer is on the expensive side, yet the larger one opposite the 'Inn on the Lake hotel' is cheaper, park here for free. Toilets before you walk out of the back of the car park and head for Hellvelyn. Again stunning views over Ullswater. Of couse 1/2 an hours drive away is Ambleside and Lake Windermere via the pass. Don't forget to stop for a coffee at the pub before you start your decent into Ambleside. Turning left out of the site and up to the A66 turn left again and head towards Keswick. Walk up thru the 'serviced pitches' at the site for a lovely walk thru the forest. Do you think we will return. ASAP!

I have stayed at this site many times and it is perfect for the North Lakes. Clean, and manicured to the highest standard that we have come to expect from the Caravan Club. The views to the mountains are stunning and at this time of year there are fabulous sunsets. However, those clouds over the mountains are equally breathtaking and the whole place has a special atmosphere. It may rain a lot there, but to be honest, I get disappointed if it doesn't!
Great staff, great essentials shop. Just puuurrrrfect.

We had a 2 night stay at this site, it didn't stop raining from the minute we arrived until the minute we left, but this didn't ruin our stay. The views from our caravan were nothing short of stunning! The nearby Rookin Farm had excellent entertainment, so my partner booked himself in there to go on the quadbikes and horseriding - I chose to walk our dogs through the Mell Fell Forest which was lovely and peaceful. We went for a drive out to Kendal and there was a fantastic farmers market on with lots of homemade food and homegrown veg etc. The heated toilet block was lovely and clean and the shower cubicles were very spacious. We have booked to go back to this site later on in the year - my partner is more excited about returning to Rookin Farm than anything else!

This is an outstanding site. Facilities are the best I've seen: spotlessly clean, large shower cubicles and heated blocks. Despite the site being very busy, there were always plenty showers and toilets available. Service pitches include water point, waste point, electricity and TV point. The site also had a games rooms, shop and park and staff were helpful and friendly.
The surrounding area offers great walking. On the doorstep is the Matterdale Forest and Great Mell Fell. A little further and you have Blencathra, Ullswater, Aira Force etc. Next door to the site is the Rookin Activity Centre with several opportunities for outward bound activities, such as karting and rock climbing. The nearest pub is 20 minutes away by foot and the food looked very good but we couldn't get a table.
Would certainly return.

This is a stunning site, in a beautiful location, we had a fantastic couple of nights here. The wardens were very helpful and friendly. The 2 toilet blocks were absolutely immaculate, they had decent sized showers and cubicles with sinks and hairdryers within allowing privacy. Our 2 children (6 and 10 years old) loved the games room and the park equipment, although small, was better than some sites I have been at. There is plenty to do in the area, we had a trip on the Ullswater Steamers and went on a lovely walk around the Aira Force waterfalls. Make sure you have plenty of pound coins with you when visiting this area, practically every single car park is pay and display.

We stayed here on a miserable wet and rainy weekend in September. My review may be somewhat coloured by the awful weather. Unlike other reviewers I did not think this site was anything special. It is correct that there is a games room but children can only go in it if accompanied by and adult - which is the very last thing older children want so rather defeats the object. There is one pub you can walk to but it is a bit of a way, especially if returning in the hours of darkness down a long unlit country road. The shower blocks are fine (usual CC standard). There are a few small pieces of play equipment dotted about. If the weather permitted I am sure there are some walks you can do. The views are ok just countryside nothing spectacular.

We visited Troutbeck at Easter and its a lovely very tidy and clean campsite, the showers are spotless there are a couple of baths which you have to obtain a key for but great if you have small kids. We loved the area but werent too keen on the site for kids really, to be fair the site did have a games room, which was very small, it had a play area not near the caravans and again very small and at the play area was a peice of grass which the kids could play ball games. Under no circumstances could the kids play outisde the caravans, we werent too keen on this as we have a mixed range of ages. I like to keep an eye on mine! The site is over the fence from Rookin House which has a fantastic range of activities such as horse riding, clay pidgeon shooting, archery, quad bikes etc etc we took full advantage but be warned they are not cheep, they are however very friendly and there is a few things for youngesters to play on while the older ones are on activities if you want to stay and watch. I would recommend this site but not really for kids unless you have lots of activities booked away from the site.

This site is a credit to the Caravan Club, very friendly wardens and an Ideal, quiet location for touring / walking the north lakes. Hardstanding and grass, wouldn't recommend the latter in very wet weather, pitches make it Ideal for most tastes. Also has some fully serviced pitches. Use the recommended route to the site from the M6jun 40 and its a doddle getting there. Its a very popular site and booking is essential at peak times, we where queueing to get on the site on our arrival. Well recommended.

Wonderful site. Toilets and showers lovely. Toddler bathroom pristine and a great help! Games room good for older children - pool (2 tables, 50p a game, hire cues from shop) and table tennis (free, bats from shop). Wardens very helpful - little shop very welcome - sausage and bacon delicious. Kids paddled in stream and we visited the Beatrix potter exhibition (good if you have Peter Rabbit fans amongst you) and went on a trip on the Ullswater steamers which are close by. Keswick quite close too. Highly recommended and will certainly go back.
