Stayed here for one night on our way up to Scotland. Pleasant enough site, staff were friendly and helpful and from what we saw of the facilities they were clean and tidy.

Although the site was busy we had a choice of pitches and chose one near to the beck. Although we could watch the quad bikes and riding at the centre nearby we didn't feel the noise levels were a problem unlike other reviewers have said. I suppose its down to personal preference.

Mobile phone reception is not guaranteed, could only pick up Vodaphone and T Mobile. TV did not work either but they did have a hook up lead available at reception which we may have used had we stayed longer.

Cannot comment on child friendliness as we stayed without children.

Only issue we had was with the exit from the site as its a sharp uphill turn to the left. We only have a small unit and family sized car but think it would have been a struggle had it been wet or worst still icy conditions. Don't know how anyone with a larger unit would cope.

We spent the bank holiday weekend a this site, the second time we have been here.

Upon arrival we were told that we could go on any pitch, just pop back with the pitch number. The warden gave us a key for the baby bathrooms as we have a 16 month old which was a great help.

The wardens were very helpful.

The toilet blocks are kept very clean and the showers were also very clean. The baby bathroom was a great help as previously stated as we bathed our baby girl and she loved it as the bath tub was just the right size for her to have a splash around without flooding the bathroom out.

The site looked well maintained and I even saw a warden painting a fencing.

The pitch sizes are just fantastic with lots of room for your folding camper / caravan and awning and car with room at the sides so your not too close to your neighbour.

Keswick is arourd 7 miles away as is Penrith. Keswick is a fab little town which is definitely worth a look around.

All in all, a wonderful site, in a wonderful location.

Oh dear, this'll no doubt upset a few people who've reviewed this site previously but I guess the point of these reviews is to call it how you see it. Whilst we did have a lovely weekend generally, there were one or two things that I want to mention. Not in my opinion quite up to usual CC site standard. It may have been unusual but the toilets were a little bit smelly during that weekend! Unsual set up too in the loos. Two separate doors into showers and basins. Not a problem, just strange!

Surprisingly too we found it a bit noisy - constant noise from the activity centre next door and barking dogs, even one wandering without a lead - that's not the wardens fault of course, but the people who own them.

The wardens themselves were friendly and helpful enough.

The Troutbeck Inn is a mile and a quarter up towards the A66 and walkable if you want a stroll. Alternatively, towards Ulswater there's the Royal at Dockray, about 2 miles away.

We were back to Troutbeck over the long Easter weekend, this was out third visit to the site we stayed there twice before in April and October 2009. It is becoming a firm favourite of ours we have already booked again for October.

Everything about this site is quality, the location, facilities, wardens and site layout. Location – set between Penrith and Keswick just off the A66 on the B5091. Ullswater is less than five miles away, Keswick is not far and the Lakes are your Oyster. The Scenery is stunning, even better on our visit as the mountains had a dusting of snow.

Facilities – The wardens always seem to be busy and it shows the site is well maintained, cleanliness in the facility blocks (which are heated) is top notch. There is also a games room with table tennis, two pool tables and table football. Right next door is Rookin House an outdoor activity centre.

We tried Quad biking this time and had a ball, previously we have tried out hands at archery and clay pigeon shooting. The off road Argo cat ride looks good so maybe that next time, but the quads were so much fun maybe another go!

We setup our pitch on the lower level near the beck, a little more sheltered than on the main ring, where we were on the two previous occasions. When it’s windy the awning takes a hammering so strap it down tight. This time it rained all night on Monday and our pitch flooded, only our pitch mind but six inches was plenty deep enough. So whilst most of the pitches are hard standing large and well drained beware pitch 81. You have been warned.

Mum, Dad, our 2 Children and our dog made an overnight stop at Troutbeck Head Caravan Club site during the Easter Weekend and came away with mixed feelings although overall we do wish to go back again.

We arrived and directions and check-in being straight forward and easy. We arrived late in the weekend and were forced onto one of the pitches that really were only included there to make money rather than be left as a grassed area.

I say this as levelling our van would have rendered the van door frame / step being to high from the steps so we had to settle on an uneven van for the night.

The site on the whole was lovely and the 2 playgrounds with the indoor games room adding to this wonderful site but the dog walk was a let down.

Upon arrival we were under the impression that there was a proper dog walking area but it turned out to be the grass verge alongside the approach road. However, a good walk can be found following club site directions to a forest not too far away.

I would agree with another report here that mentions the noise level at times. We had shotguns being fired and can only hope it was clay pigeon shooting at the adventure / activity centre next door which the site shares its approach road with.

The site offers discounts on the boats on the nearby Derwent Water and is great for Keswick.

Overall, we will being going back, but on a less busy weekend.

Beautiful site well kept lovely wardens the views are fantastic, loads of birds so take some hanging bird feeders as we always do.

Some lovely walks just a very short drive away or you could walk straight from site and make it a little longer!

All the usual CC facilities and spotless wardens really nice and friendly loved the Christmas lights they put up.We never used the pool tables etc but looked in and it looked ideal if you have children, couple of nice play areas also

We will be back and cant wait to come back again at this time of year with the frost!

Stayed here for bank holiday, got late booking from CC website. Wardens very helpful, lovely site, we pitched next to the stream at the back so was nice to watch. Unfortunatly we had that much rain it become a river by Monday. Did not overflow though ,was just rapid flowing.

Toilets were spotless, pitch was excellent, no wifi signal so could not use laptop. Tv was also useless, but they sold TV Cable on site for anyone not equipped that just plugs into the elec bollard. Only thing I can fault is the exit ,I don't have a heavy van but I pull it with a family saloon car, you have to stop at the bollard to leave, then its a sharp left turn & up a steep hill, got up but wheel spun all the way as the rain was heavy. Will go again, very happy.

Well what can I say - as usual the Caravan Club sites are always really good facilities and very friendly. There is even a games room for big and little kids

Lovely site very clean facilities and very helpful staff.

The weather was dreadful - torrential rain and winds above 22mph. I was so worried about the wind and rain taking the awning away I was up all night checking it. The next day I asked if the storm straps that were sold on site would be long enough for my awning explaining about the night before and it was decided that they may be a bit short. However one of the wardens came down with his own storm straps and fixed them across my awning. Fantastic and so helpful

This is one of our favourites. This was our 3rd visit. Always managed to get on a serviced pitch at top of site. Very clean, neat and tidy. Good playgrounds and great dog walks up into the forests. Alarmed to find lot of forest had been felled since last visit making it look bleak. Rookin House next door offers some great activities but best to book before you come. We tried archery, quad biking, go-karts and the argocat. Convenient for M6 and for Keswick with Booths supermarket a must! Facilities are some of the best we have seen with large, well equipped shower cubicles. Staff always friendly and paper orders taken. Will return.

We stayed on this site for 4 nights, it looked ok from what we saw of it, was confined to the caravan (rained non stop). Toilets were a strange setup but was kept nice and clean. There was a very good games room on site for the kids. The walk from the top of the site would have been a nice stroll in the woods, but woods have now been felled leaving it very barren. When you leave the site remember to take your barrier key back on foot (as there is no where to stop on exit of site with your car and caravan).
