Good site with friendly helpful wardens. New excellent facilities and pitches. New means there were some teething problems with rainwater/waste water on a couple of pitches when we had extremely heavy rainfall, although these didn't affect our pitch.

The wardens were working hard to keep the site in tip-top condition.

Very peaceful with good views from the upper area. Good local walks and although there's no specific off-lead area the dogs there is a track where trusted dogs can be allowed some freedom (side areas with muddy ditches). We would be happy to recommend ths site.

Great location, friendly staff, ample size pitches, great showerblock, very busy as can be expected for a Bank Holiday weekend,

Our weekend totally spoilt by inconsiderate dog owners letting their dogs bark and yap on at all hours, the woman on the next pitch to us thinking it was great to take pictures of her dog while it was wagging its tail and barking its head off,

We've visited this site many times over the years and found it to be very peaceful and relaxing! How this Club has changed, those days are gone, not slating dog owners because I would say half of them on the site were very considerate as for the warden, when I feedback to her, her response was 'we get a lot of dogs on here' not even an apology,

I've cancelled our membership, our relationship with this overpriced Club ------OVER

Troutbeck is a handy CMC campsite if you wish to explore the Lake District or overnight on the way to Scotland (it is fifteen minutes off the M6 at Penrith).

The central amenities block is clean and modern, and there are water points handy for most parts of the site. Television reception can be a bit hit-and-miss (although booster sockets are present on ehu blocks if you have an extension cable).

A good nearby walk is the circuit of Gowbarrow Hill and Aira Force, which takes about three hours to complete, but affords excellent views of Ullswater and the waterfalls that feed it.

Both Keswick and Penrith boast shops, pubs and restaurants.

Enjoyed our week with the plus of some very warm weather. This site is set in beautiful surroundings and its layout means you don't feel the site is as big as it is. We were lucky enough to get a pitch by the stream and the caravan could be parked nose in to enable the view to be enjoyed.

Lovely and peaceful with the occasional noise from the neighbouring outdoor centre - quads, clay pigeon shooting, but doesn't go on all day. The site has a couple of play areas although only one was in use when we were there, along with a games room. Useful for those with children when the weather isn't so great.

Facilities were spotless and the site is well maintained. Good dog walk from the site where you can let the dogs off and another short one on site where they need to be on leads.

Sampled the Fish & Chip van on the Tuesday night (comes twice a week). Not a huge menu, but very tasty. Penrith has Morrisons and Sainsburys for your main shopping, plus fuel.

Overall a lovely site with the benefits of being close to some great towns and the amazing scenery of the north lakes. We will return.

We stopped off here for 3 nights after a 7 night stay at a privately owned site in Scotland which we paid very little pppn with the same facilities. CC prices are no longer good value compared to some private sites but it was a convenient stop over to extend our holiday just a few more days.

On arrival, wardens were welcoming but I did feel overloaded by the directions around the site given to me without the lady drawing breathe and even the site map was compact and not easy to read. We pitched on a corner with the most picturesque view of Blencathra and of the activity centre next door to the site.

Dog walks from site lacking. We did find the forestry walks but non were circular so it was there and back. The only other walks would take us onto a busy road. Fish and chip van on site twice a week. We sampled on Tuesday night and found them to be very tasty. Typical CC site moan also about relentless grass cutting.

They come with a strimmer for the very edges, then a walk along mower for the edges and then a big ride on mower for the larger area cuts. As all pitches are surrounded by grass we had to endure nearly a full afternoon of mowing noise!

We won't visit again but can see this site being a good base for tourists to drive from and enjoy the Northern Lake District.

Blessed by the unusual Easter weather (sunshine), we stayed on a serviced pitch and were delighted by tranquil surroundings (even though the site was almost full).

Ideally situated for the northern Lakes without the large crowds normally associated Everywhere was kept tidy and the toilets were very clean.

The dog walk area is fantastic, just make sure your pooch will come back when called as there is access to the beck!

Our only gripe is no wifi, and be aware that O2 has no mobile signal.

Arrived on the first day of opening at 1230 and already 12 units pitched up. As stated in previous posts the toilets are underfloor heated including the shower basin!

Absolutely superb site, with great, friendly staff and views to die for! Superb weather made it even better, although sub zero most nights for our 5 night stay.

Up early with my dog I watched Roe deer and buzzards in Matterdale Forest behind the site - good walking along logging tracks. Penrith has a Morrisons with fuel plus a new Sainsburys, Aldi, Iceland and a Go Outdoors.

Other outdoor specialist shops in Keswick, and Ambleside make for retail therapy. There is a barrier system in operation along with a one way system, on our next visit we might try the fully serviced pitches - those closest to the toilets still have the views but are closer to the forest tracks and some have a flagstone patio area from when statics covered this area, nowadays there is only one on site.

Yes there are no close amenities with the exception of pubs and a farm shop with fly fishing but if that's your bag then go elsewhere don't whinge about it - you have been informed if you read these reviews

 Location

Situated a mile or so from the A66, it's an easily accessible site and well placed as a base for the North Lakes, Keswick and Ullswater. It's a bit isolated with little to do in the area, so it's best to have s car or bike to travel. Pub at Troutbeck is a mile away and does good grub.

Facilities

The site is modern so the facilities are excellent. Pitches are huge and well spaced out.

Price

£20 per night approx.

Great site!

This was our second stay on the site, and it is just about as good as it gets. Near to the M6, easy to find, and surrounded by drop dead gorgeous views. Everything is immaculate, and both Keswick and Penrith (each with a Superstore) are only a short drive away.

Ullswater is nearby, with Glenridding at one end (with eateries and a service station to fill up, and ample parking), and Pooley Bridge at the other (again with eateries and parking). There are public footpaths for stunning walks all around the Lake, and Aria Falls which is a stunning walk alongside waterfalls.

A mobile 'chippy' is on site Thursday, Friday and Saturday teatime; my Wife enjoyed her fish and chips, and although my chips and curry sauce was lovely, the chicken fillet seemed to have been boiled for too long and was tasteless, a bit pricey too. The service pitches are faultless, and the site coped well with torrential rain. You get a weak mobile signal, but TV reception was excellent.

The site doesn't have WiFi. We would not hesitate to go back.

We stayed at Troutbeck on a serviced pitch for the weekend. Check-in was very efficient and we were allowed to choose our own pitch from those available. We stayed on pitch 26 up towards the dog walk area as we have stayed up here before and it has great views (when the weather allows).

The serviced pitch area of the site was not very busy but the standard pitch part of the site was a lot busier.

Despite all of the rain which fell over the weekend, the toilet block stayed remarkably clean. There are all the facilities you need here, washing up facilities, chemical toilet points, games room – even a mobile fish and chip van on a Friday and Saturday.

The showers are good with a relatively high pressure on them and lots of hot water. The site roads are nice and wide so make moving the van round the site easy enough.

Our pitch was fantastically flat and plenty big enough. We did not put the awning up as we were expecting bad weather and only there for two nights. Our pitch had a little patio area at the back for bbqs or seating.

My only criticism is that the waste point on our pitch was at a higher level than the pitch so the waste water sat in the pipe rather than draining away.

The site is very very easy to get to and find, approx. 10 minutes from Junc 40 of the M6. It is a great base for exploring Ullswater, Pooley Bridge, Aira Force, Blencathra, Great Mell Fell etc.

I would definitely stop here again as the site is very well maintained and there is so much to do in the local vicinity of the site.
