We were a little concerned about visiting this site with two young children after reading previous comments about train noise. We are very pleased to say that we were not affected by this at all during our stay, the site is lovely and flat, easy to pitch on and well laid out. We were about half way up the site (just close enough to the nice play area) so wandered down to the bottom to see how noisy the trains were, yes you could hear them a tiny bit but we really don't think they would disturb most people.
The toilets and showers were, as you would expect from a Camping and Caravanning Club site, clean and plentiful.
The nearest big supermarket that we found was Waitrose which is quite expensive so try to take as much as poss with you. There was a nice chip shop (not the one towards Cambridge) which the site recommended but we can't remember the name.
We would visit here again, a lovely relaxing weekend.

September 2005 On our 4th Year of visiting the site as a family, we stay on the Duxford Air Show weekends i would like to say a huge huge thankyou to the site manager and assistants. Travelled down on the friday with my dad and 3 kids, on the saturday morning my father took real sick, panicked a little myself but i sent my son of 13 over to the managers for help. The staff on this site are very compitent in their job lovely people who asked everyday about my father whom was rushed to hospital by ambulance. We will visit again and it did rain heavy that weekend but the water drained fast within hours. Best Wishes to all the staff at cabbage moor and the friendly people who asked about my father, he is now recovering well at home. Regards and see you all next year

August 2004 We have just returned from this site, and were a little hesitant about going, given the horrendous weather we have endured this summer! Having read reviews about this site on this website, I was rather concerned about the seven underground springs that flood when it rains. Imagine the surprise of the warden when I mentioned it to her - she denied all knowledge of such springs. It is a lovely little site, given we went in the middle of August it was very quiet. The planes and the trains were hardly heard, and although it did rain quite considerably, the site never flooded. We will definately be visiting again. Ideal spot if visiting the Duxford Air show and Norfolk Lavender.

May 2004 Nice clean and tidy site. There is a small park on site for the children to play on. About a mile away is a Park and ride bus stop which is really good for getting into Cambridge. Next to it is also a Waitrose for getting provisions. Also not far from the site is the pretty village of Grantchester with three great pubs. One was terrific for adults with children, another play area Red Lion. Also from here you can walk along the river Cam into Cambridge. Yes would definately recommend this site but can imagine it being busy in summer. It did not seem that big.

Whit weekend 2004 What a lovely site, plenty of room even though it was fully booked. Lovely cycle routes into Cambridge, especially the one from Grantchester along the river, weather was very good. Waitrose just up the road within cycling distance, all roads have cycle lanes. Cambridge is very cycle friendly, did'nt have to use the car at all, plenty of places to eat. Site is nice and flat, would highly recommend this site.

oct 2003 Just got back from a couple of nights at this site. The site managers were very helpful but strict on the 6 meter spacing rule. It was not very busy at the time so this was not a problem but perhaps could be when busy and the managers not about.
I did not have a problem with aircraft or train noise but there is a constant noise from the major roads nearby. The so called shop is more of an office so make sure you get your supplies before you visit.
My reason for visiting was the air museum and this site is ideal for that. I would go again.

This site is located on the outskirts of Cambridge in the village of Great Shelford. However, even armed with a map it is easy to go straight past the narrow access road, which is shared with several residential properties and looks like any suburban drive. Within easy reach of the A10, A14 and M11, this site is an ideal base for Cambridge, Duxford (Imperial War Museum) and the surrounding areas.
This is a Camping and Caravanning Club site, which means to unfamiliar folks like me that non-members have to pay an additional per-night pitch fee of £4.30 as well as a sum per adult per night. But I was doing this trip solo so the cost was an awful lot less than a B&B or hotel.
The wardens were very welcoming and friendly, guiding me to my designated pitch as well as pointing out the facilities. The site is quite large and, even in July, was busy but not crowded. There is a small shop on-site, but it caters mainly for essentials and carries only a small range of goods.
The site is mainly level and enclosed by tall trees. There are seven underground springs beneath the site, which has a tendency to flood if the weather is bad!
The toilet/shower block is well maintained and very clean. There is also a dishwashing area and laundry facilities, maintained to the same high standards.
What the guide books don't tell you is that this site is close to a main railway line and right under the flightpath for Cambridge airport. Light aircraft do pass directly overhead on their descent to the airport, and long freight trains pass by in the middle of the night.

We set off for Cambridge CCC site Friday afternoon - got as far as junction 8 on the M11 and blew a fuse, so nothing on the dashboard was working! Not an auspicious start....
Got the folding camper set up Friday night but decided we'd leave the awning till Saturday - got up Saturday to find it was pretty windy so chickened out of chasing the canvas around the site!
Saturday night it rained hard all night and we woke up Sunday morning to find a lake outside the bedroom window where previously there had been grass. The people in the trailer tent next to us were not so lucky - the lake extended inside their tent, although fortunately not into their sleeping quarters. They decided to admit defeat and went home a day early - at least it stopped raining long enough to enable them to pack the tent dry.
Sunday evening we managed to get the awning up with assistance from a fellow camper with similar awning, it being our first attempt - Needless to say the poles and canvas we had bore no relation to that depicted in the instruction manual, I think it was describing a previous version or something..... We hadn't realised just how large the awning was going to be - felt like we could hold a barn dance in it!
Bank Holiday Monday broke with tradition - warm and sunny!! WOW! I gather other areas weren't so lucky, however.
Tuesday morning also warm and sunny but poured again in the afternoon, refilling the lake which had just started to shrink!
The weather was kind to us on Wednesday too - we got everything packed up in the dry. All in all we had a good break and enjoyed ourselves.
