We have just returned from a short break on the IOW and spent 2 nights here. We found it via the CC website and booked at very short notice. Ask the site for an all in price for pitch and ferry crossing because they did us a very cheap deal. The pitches are terraced and have a lovely view over the surrounding hilly countryside. For us in a camper van, the pitches had ample space, on and around them. The ones being used were gravel with concrete standing at the front. The dog exercise area leads onto a short public path crossing a field at the bottom of the site. Only one toilet/shower block was open during our stay, but this was adequate as the site was not even half full. Although a little dated, these were always clean and tidy. This is an ideal site for adults only, out of the school holidays, and the quietness that brings! Many of the campers were retired, and there were only a couple of families. There are set areas for childsplay (including ball games) away from the main camping areas, and bikes etc. Are discourages around the pitches (bliss). A new takeaway/fresco dinning facility was in its 2nd week, so we tried out the breakfast menu (weekends only ‘till May 07). This was great, with more ingredients than we would carry for a fry up. The menu/prices are given to you with other site details, and it is conveniently placed (next to the site shop) if you want fast-food, as the site is fairly remote. The 1st pub food is a ‘good’ walk away down pavementless country lanes.

The site was for us disappointing as the pitches are too close and tight I expected it to be busy in August but other sites we have stayed on seem to manage and organise the flow of vans , tents and people better than the Orchards
The swimming pool and facilities are of a high standard but can become crowded in peak times. If you want a lively site that appeals to teenagers you have found it. The site is some way from main towns and really you need the car to explore.

We arrived to find a well presented reception area, with friendly staff. We were shown to our pitch where the grass is cut after the last person vacated the pitch. Each pitch is well marked with plenty of room between each pitch. There are ample water & waste points. Excellent shower & toilet rooms (3 blocks) especially the new block (very nice). We found the site very quiet at night, no loud music etc. Two dog walk areas. One of the best stocked site shops we have come across which opened at 8 & closed at 9. There are 2 swimming pools, we made great use of the outdoor pool which didn't get overcrowded. They have scuba diving sessions which our 12 year old will be doing next year as we have already booked for 10 days next August. We would thoroughly recommend this site for anyone looking to stay on the I.O.W., it is only 15 mins from Yarmouth Ferry, which they will also book for you.

We had a very nice week at this site. Toilets/showers very clean. Good shop and not overpriced at all (makes a change!). Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely country views. The only gripe I have is that we had paid upfront for a family pass for the indoor pool (approx £23) and only used it the once as it was full most of the time and the queues were quite long! Also it looked like a large pool in the brochure but was actually quite small! The outdoor pool was large, clean and FREE, so we used that every day (although it was on the chilly side). All in all a good site and we would return again.

We have just got back from five nights at the Orchards over the half term break. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning. The site was very clean and the staff were very friendly. We found that the pitches were very generous in size and were allocated prior to arrival so our group were all able to pitch together. The toilets and showers were very clean and by far the best we have come across to date, as were the washing up facilities. Amazingly they were being closed the week after we left for updating, I have no idea how they will improve them. There is lots to do on site, a good shop with lots of stock and very reasonable prices. The outdoor pool was quite cold when we were there but there is still the inside one for back up. There are also a few play areas, a sand pit, pool room, table tennis and a couple of parks for the kids. This is by far the best we have been to to date and look forward to going back soon.

Very crowded when we went at Easter, with the caravans on grass being very close indeed to each other. Probably fine for children, and OK if you don't mind being packed in, but although we'd paid for five nights as part of the Red Funnel package, we upped sticks and went after two nights. Having said that, the shop was well stocked, the staff very friendly and the washrooms were fine. Just a bit too high density for us, and too many signs prohibiting this and that, including a very odd one in the gents which simply said 'plastic plumbing.' Never saw that as a potential danger before....

What a great site!
We went in the 2nd week of October and had the entire lower camping field to ourselves. Now that's what I call relaxing camping!
All pitches had electrical hook up and were very generous. I measured several piches and many were over 15 meters wide! Pitches were not numbered, but the pitch edges were marked by posts. We were told to pitch anywhere we wanted.Toilets and shower block were fanstastic! Like using the bathromo in your own house.. Spotless and modern; it really does feel like using a hotel bathroom!
The onsite facilites were excellent also. The had free table tennis, table football was 20p a game and 2 pool tables which were 50p slot type. The takeaway was excellent and you could order your food for a particular time if you wanted. We ordered when we arrived back at the site and then just strolled up later and collected our order! A good selection also with curry and hand made pizzas for example.
The only minor gripe I have about the site is that the onsite pool is available to local schools and local children. Is is therefore always full of children, even when I was the only tent on site! There is adults only from 8-30am to 9-30am but I was always offsite by then.
Overall though a great site!

Our first time at the Isle of wight,we stayeds at The Orchards for 7 nights. After catching an earlier ferry than we were booked on we arrived at this site 9.30am ,we were warmly welcomed and only had to wait half an hour for our pitch. The weather was glorious for the whole 7 days so we used the outside pool every day, kids had a great time wth their inflatables and the pool was never too crowded, although we do holiday early July so not the busiest time.
No experience of the inside pool but it looked spotless as was the inside pool and everywhere else you looked at The orchards. The toilet blocks were very close to the tent area and are the some of the best I have ever come across,Private shower rooms with shower sink and toilet and also a family room with 2 showers.Excellent Laundry and washing up faclities too.
On site shop was very well stocked and very reasonable. Takeaway was great ,we used it a couple of nights and made a nice change from the barbie which we cooked on every other night. Kids play areas kept my 5 yr old amused, were also spotless. We took our dog and they had a nice dog walking area,The Isle of Wight is very dog friendly, with loads of shops with water bowls outside and you could evan take them to most attractions.
Nothing at all to do in the little village surrounding The Orchards but thats no prblem as nowhere is very far on The Isle of Wight. We had our very best camping holiday to date here and plan to return in 2006 ,There is still so much to see,we will be booking The orchards for 2 weeks and cant wait,Highly Recommended

August 2004 We visited this park in our tourer & other family members rented a static on the same site. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday, then this is definately the place for you. The indoor pool is clean, warm & well managed with numbers limited at all times - they have a funtime when inflatables & toys are permitted for a set time each day; the kids enjoyed this but it fills up very quickly & can be a little claustrophobic at times. The outdoor pool isn't managed & tended to be a free-for-all, mostly for teenagers whilst we were there. Showers, toilets & laundry facilities were excellent - to be expected from a BOB site. They also have two baths in one of the shower blocks. The shop was very well stocked, & not particularly overpriced. The take away food was also very good (look out for the breakfast take away opening times - the breakfast rolls were delicious). The only down side we suffered was as a result of our caravan being continental (the door on the opposite side to the British equivalent) & their insistance that the a-frame face outward, meaning that our awning faced our neighbours. We did a tour of the site before we left, & when we go back (definately!!!) have picked our pitch to keep everyone happy.

Oct 2002, Oct 2003 Amenities on the site are very clean and well maintained. Indoor pool is perfect for a relaxing swim with fun swim times for children. Shop is well stocked and the take away on site is good. Two playgrounds are tidy and there is a table tennis table, games room, TV room and pool room..... all in all, something to help the whole family relax. The village has an active social club that welcomes visitors and holds bingo evenings etc. A relaxing break in the beautiful west Wight country side.
