I used to stay at this site with my parents every couple of years from a very early age. We always had lovely holidays and is why we chose to go back this year with the family again.
Myself and my partner stayed in our tent, my Mum and Dad stayed in their caravan (the site kindly put us next to each other) and my Sister, Brother-in-law and Niece stayed in one of the static vans.
When we arrived the friendly staff showed us to our pitch and were more than happy to oblige when we asked if we could be moved (our electricity cable didn't reach to the pitch we were originally put on). Even though it was June, they managed to move us and my parents so we were still next to each other. We also had a look around my sister's static van which was very luxurious! It had central heating, a flat screen TV and an en-suite!
The memories from my childhood were not let down as the site is still kept in immaculate condition and had lots of excellent facilities (especially the toilet block which is the best I have ever seen). There is now an indoor pool which was lovely as the weather wasn't great, an outdoor heated pool, games rooms, pool tables, play areas, a well stocked shop and also a takeaway which sold a big variety of food.
The site is in a lovely little village and being on the Isle of Wight, nothing was more than about 30 minutes away max. The campsite booked all of our ferry’s for us, including it in the price of the stay which meant we got a very good discount. The only negative I might have is that there isn’t a pub or restaurant within walking distance. There is a social club down the road, which advertised Bingo on Wednesday nights but when my Mum, Sister and I got there, the lady behind the bar said it was cancelled as they never get enough people coming!
I would definitely recommend this site to families, young couples in need of a relaxing holiday and older couples. Mum and Dad are going back next year and I’m sure we will at some point as well.

Just returned from this site following a week long stay during Whitsun week. From start to finish, the whole trip has been a pleasure (almost). The booking process was very smooth, with very helpful staff and the e-tickets for the ferry arrived in good time before the trip.
We travelled Red Funnel from Southampton to East Cowes arriving an hour before our crossing in Southampton and being directed straight from the ticket office onto the boat - result.
The return crossing was a little more fraught, East Cowes was heaving busy and they were turning people away if you arrived more than 40mins before your ferry. Once in the queue they didn't seem terribly organised - perhaps it was just a bad day.
The site was possibly the best we've stayed at. On arrival we were greeted with friendly staff that showed us to our pitch on a hardstanding on the upper part of the site with amazing views. The site was very clean and tidy with spacious well marked pitches and short cut grass.
There's plenty for the children to do, indoor and outdoor pools (the indoor one charges £1.50 per person or £5 per family and you're limited to an hour during in busy periods).
You're also best advised to pre-book for the indoor pool which was a bit of a pain. The outdoor pool has no such restrictions, so as the sun came out this got busy (but never too busy). There's a small adventure playground which looked reasonably new, pool room (2 pool tables) and a TV room (didn't use this).
The main shower block in the middle of the site is both huge and well equipped. Two separate areas for men and two for women with very spacious cubicles in each. Each cubicle has a shower, sink, small seat and big changing space, so was ideal for me and the two boys to shower together. Showers are push button type, but seemed to last for quite a while with each push. We showered each morning and never had difficulty getting a shower, no matter what time we arrived - never had to queue. Dish washing area is in the same block and was up to the same high standards - very clean and plenty of hot water.
TV reception was fine, we picked up plenty of digital channels using just our basic status ariel. Site also became nice and quiet after 10pm, perhaps because the children's play area was situated a little bit away from most of the caravans.
The only gripe I have (and trust me it's minor) was that there are signs up saying no scooters or bikes to be ridden on site. We knew this before we left, so didn't take our children's scooters. Unfortunately, there were a number of parents (and children) that seem incapable of reading as plenty of other children were riding scooters round the park, which in turn meant we got moaned at by our children. This isn't the fault of the park, more other parents who can't or won't say no to their children.
On the whole, an excellent park that we wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others.

Chose this campsite as it was included in the Red Funnel 5 night deal, and we were not disappointed.
Reception staff were friendly and efficient on arrival. The pitch was good, with a lovely view. Our 6 man tent fit nicely with the car aside and room to sit comfortably outside. The park was generally very quiet after 10pm.
The facilities were the best we have come across, lots of showers, toilets and washing up sinks. Sockets in the toilet block meant hairdryers / straighteners etc could be used. Separate cubicles with sinks and large showers with a small changing section. They are the push type of shower, but this isn't an issue to me! Couldn't fault the cleanliness.
Didn't try the indoor pool however used the outdoor one and it was perfect for a dip at the end of a long day.
Shop stocked a standard range (which was adequate for us) however used the Morrisons at Newport or Lake for bigger shops. The take-away on site was ok, could have been better but enjoyable as a night off cooking.
The area is lovely with lots of countryside. Highlights were the Needles, Osbourne House, Shanklin Chine and the Donkey Sanctuary. Visited the Wight Mouse, Chale and had a lovely meal.
Thoroughly enjoyed the stay and have booked again for this year.

Any campsite where you can have a peaceful nights sleep is a winner in my book and The Orchards delivers on this. The campsite management expect you to take responsibility for your own children and this includes not letting them run amok at night.
Other plus points for us were
- spotless and well equipped washing facilities (a bit let down by the showers being push button and a tad cold for my liking)
- campsite very tidy - no litter
- well equipped pitches - elec, water and waste
- good playground.
It is in a quiet location so you need to drive out to visit the delights of the island so this is probably better suited to caravans rather than motorhomes.

It was the first time for both of us for going to the IOW in many years, so we was looking forward to it.
We were very early to the site & was very lucky that our static caravan was ready for us so they let us in, it was very nice but did get very cold of a evening. We had problems with lighting the fire but did light it in the end.
It was the weekend of the start of half term, there wasn't many people there when we got there but soon over the weekend got more people on site, never heard much going on with others about you, which was good.
The on site shop didn't open very often.
The take away we only see it opened once over the weekend & that was when we didn't want to use it & when we did on the sunday evening it wasn't open, so lucky for us we had some kind of food in so we had sandwiches.
We did find a few nice pubs/places to eat in the day but wasn't cheap though, in fact a lot of stuff on the IOW wasn't cheap.
We will visit the IOW again but maybe next time try somewhere else to stay.

Spent 5 nights on a Red Funnel deal including ferry, which is keenly priced. However don't know what all the rave reviews are about this site, we found it quite ordinary!
Why the Five stars not quite sure, apart from the Toilet/Shower Block which was kept very clean, but even the showers were the 'miser' type you had to keep pressing the button to wet each leg or arm! Overall we thought the site was scruffy, and needed a bit ot TLC.
Grass in need of cutting, gravel hardstandings spread around the place, dog waste bins overflowing, staff just knocking apples off the trees and leaving them lying around.
The site has all the facilities there but on a small scale, even the shop didn't have a lot on offer. No pub or facilities in local village you need to drive to get to anywhere for anything. Some of the pitches are awful, how you would actually get a caravan into them without a motor mover I don't know.
We were on grass, on a slope and you don't get a choice in what pitch you get. Used the takeaway once, good prices but not impressed by frozen chips and frozen fish. Looked like the site was ready to shut down for the season but in fact it is open until next January!
Would we go back? No

We booked this site with Sun Holidays and chose this one because it seemed less commercial than the others on the Isle of Wight. The caravan was spotless with 3 bedrooms (6 of us) and radiators so it wasn't ever cold in the van, statics have come a long way since I last stayed in one many years ago. As we normally tent camp this was pure luxury.
This isn't a site I would have chosen as a camper simply because it is too clean, tidy and regulated, I much prefer the free and easy type of site, never have been good with rules. However, as we were there in half term and Leicester's half term is a week before anyone elses, we had the place to ourselves.
The boys had the pool to themselves, my only gripe being that a 12 and 13 year old had to have a parent supervising them (I went to the pool unsupervised from 12 years back in the day). However it was quite pleasant enjoying a cup of coffee and watching them have fun.
The staff were friendly, the shop seemed to be running down for the end of season but had milk, bread etc and the takeaway looked reasonable.
If you like manicured lawns, a few regulations and spotless facilities this is quite possibly the site for you.
It is situated inland, not far from the Yarmouth ferry, but nothings very far in the IOW. We were on a tight budget and, although it is a fairly expensive place especially parking, we found some cheap alternatives:
There is a Crown Inn on the island who do a delicious cheap carvery (google Crown Inns), the kids loved watching the hovercrafts (free), playing on the beach (free) and discovering some of the clifftop walks and jurrasic park type pathways (free).
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and, despite the site not being our normal type of site, I am saving the Sun tokens to go back this year.

We first stayed here for Easter 2010, and it being such a good deal with Red Funnel, we returned in August, arriving the Tuesday after the Bank Holiday.
I think this site is excellent, although I do realise that not all sites are 100% level. We actually used levellers for the first time, and our van was the most level it had ever been.
On arrival, the reception staff deal with new arrivals in good time. After all, most arrive in batches, due to travelling on the same incoming ferry. The staff walk you to the pitch, as you follow in your unit, which is a nice touch. They do ask for you not to drive on the grass, which is a near on impossibility if you do not have a motor mover for your van, as the road ways are quite narrow.
The noise of the crows can be a bit irritating in the mornings, if you stay in the top field, closest to the statics. But this really did not bother us that much.
The pitches are mostly separated with fruit trees, which is more obvious if you stay in Aug/Sept, of course.
The toilet block, I would safely say, is the best I have ever used. In our two stays, I didn't even see a block closed for cleaning, which as it should be. Why are so many toilet blocks closed when people want to use them?! The showers are individual lockers, which include a basin, and ample room for drying, with a seat and plenty of hooks. To my best knowledge, the blocks are under floor heated.
There are also ample washing and drying machines in an other room, again, clean and well kept.
The site has an indoor and an outside pool.
Also, there is a well stocked shop for all the essentials and more, and also a take away for pizzas, pasta, fish and chips etc.
One 'shame' is that the village of Newbridge has no pubs, the nearest ones being a drive away.

Returned from The Orchards 5th September after a 5 night Red Funnel Deal. What can I say other than we had a great time. The great weather helped. We were in a field at the bottom of the site - slightly sloping but no big problem. The pitch was large with plenty of room.
There were tents and caravans in our field but were only placed around the outside with plenty of room for the kids to play. Although this was the further area from the main facilities we preferred this as it was quiet and undisturbed. There are 2 play areas and one which had goal posts and basketball shot was at the bottom of the area.
There is loads to do and places to visit on the isle of wight and we will be back next year. The facilities are the best I have ever seen on a camp site. They were always clean, available and huge. There are cubicles with showers and sinks and some cubicles just with a sink. Even the washing up is inside. The pool outside was clean and free to use although a bit cold, the indoor pool was great for the kids although max capacity is only 30 we never had to wait to get in.
My daughter was a little gutted you can't ride your bike on the site but I felt this helped keep the site quiet and slow. The views of the rolling hillside and animals made for a relaxing break.
Everyone seemed to respect each other and the site was always quiet by 10pm which everyone appreciated.
My only down side would be that if you were on an all service pitch you are near the main facilities which in part is accessed by gravel path which would be noisy for those near it.
The staff were always friendly and knowledgeable with plenty of info on the local area and places to eat. The site is well maintained, clean and worth it's 5* grade.

My wife and I visited this site last year using the Caravan Club / Red Funnel five day deal and were very impressed. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly, always willing to help. The facilities were first class very clean and user friendly. There is a pool which is available for a small charge and is clean and well looked after.
The dog walk is very good and must be cleaned regularly as there was no mess.
We were so impressed we have booked again on the same deal with our daughter and our grandchildren for the October Bank Holiday.
We would recommend this site to anyone.
