Went here at the last week of April and a few days into May 2012 on a 5 day package, ferry and pitch, with hook up, for £163. 00 but ended up saying for longer and booking a separate ferry crossing back once ready (£40. 00 Yarmouth to Lymington) and although the weather was really bad we had a great time.

We went with the aim of walking the coastal path but as the weather was so bad we ended up 16 miles short so will have to go again to complete.

The facilities on the site are some of the best you could get anywhere, the toilets, showers and washing up facilities are in a new state of the art building with underfloor heating so it was great on the feet after a long days walking. The shop is ok but we tended to drive down to the supermarket as everything is fairly close on this small island and we did not get to use the indoor pool but it did look very inviting.

The pitch was large with plenty of room for a large trailer tent and the car and it was only a short walk to a water supply but with the bad weather came a very waterlogged pitch, slightly sloping and tiered. By the end of the holiday it felt like we were walking on a waterbed.

The buses on the island are well worth using if you buy a group pass, we paid £48. 00 for a week for 4 of us and a dog, the average route seemed to be between £2. 50 and £3. 50 each so we feel we had a bargain.

You will however have to walk to the bus stop at the end of Willow Lane, 20 mins, for the best service. The bus that stops in front of the site are ok on odd days to get around but only a limited service runs from here. The Horse and Groom Pub, half an hours walk is probably one of the best on the island for reasonably priced food and drink with a good selection.

Even though the weather was lousy we would definitely go here again as is certainly seemed like the nicer side of the island with the popular tourist towns on the east coast showing some signs of being outdated and in need of modernisation.

Just retuned from an Easter short break with Red Funnel Ferries. Can honestly say, despite some horrific weather, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Orchards.

The site is superb - definitely more 'glamping' than camping. Piped music in the immaculate facilities block, under-floor heating in the showers/wash area, unisex family bathrooms, baby bath, superb views from the pot wash area, you cannot fault it.

We were pitched on a beautifully level terrace and were accommodated next to our travelling companions (3 more tents) no problem whatsoever.

The on-site shop is reasonalbly priced and is open until 8pm daily which was useful when our gas ran out at tea time!

The heated indoor swimming pool was lovely and warm and despite having to pay extra, was worth the £1. 50pp. Under 4's are free. Someone said you can use a BoB loyalty card to access the indoor pool for free but we did not know about this before going. Too cold to use the outdoor pool but it looked nice. Also never got chance to use the adventure play areas but again, they looked good and well maintained - just like the rest of the site.

There are loads of things to do nearby and Red Funnel offer some good deals on attractions if you book in advance with them. There are also some amazing pubs to try. Nearest to the site are the Horse and Groom (5 min drive) which has an amazing kids play area, The New Inn (5 min in the car or 30 min walk across country from the site) IoW dining pub of the year, and the Sun Inn (10 min in the car or again about a 30 min walk).

I think this site is ideally placed for exploring the island and would stay here again without hesitation.

On arrival we were welcomed by the friendly staff and shown to our pitch. (slopping ground) Lovely views from the site and our children enjoyed being very close to the lambs in the field next door.

We had plenty of space to play football and swingball however children are not allowed to cycle around the site. We wished we had known this as we would have left ours at home. The showers and toilets were always clean. The only downfall is the showers which you have to keep pressing to turn on.

The shop was well stocked and we made use of the on site take away which is well worth a visit.

Playground could have been better. Swimming pool (indoor) is heated and our kids loved it.

There is a bus stop just outside the site.

We will be returning to the Isle of Wight next year but will not be returning to the Orchards as we like to visit many different sites to view much of the area.

Overall we had a lovely time at the Orchards.

Just back from a 'Special Offer 5 day break' on this site - booked through Red Funnel - a real bargain at £151 including the ferry travel. There was just the two of us but the deal does include up to 4 people - a real bargain.

We had a fantastic time - helped along by the unexpected gorgeous weather. The site is in a lovely location - very handy for many of the cycle rides on the west side of the island - we had two lovely days out cycling and can recommend a trip down to Freshwater Bay and up to Newtown - the scenery is absolutely fantastic - with loads of places to have lunch or a quick snack along the way.

Site only about a third full this week which made for a very chilled and relaxed atmosphere with mainly 'older' caravanners - we were by far the youngest (mid 40's).

The site is very well laid out. The toilet block is second to none, with the largest shower cubicles I think I have ever seen - and always immaculately clean, whatever time of day or night.

The outdoor pool was closed, being the end of September, but the indoor one was open - and was good value at £1. 50 per person - very clean too.

There is a shop, a takeaway, TV room, Pool room and Table Tennis room - All in all, a very nice site that we would be happy to visit again.

Just returned home after four very enjoy nights stay at the orchards. We were first time campers and the pitch we were allocated was clean and had plenty of room for our tent and car. The pitch came with an electric hook up which we could not be without because you need to keep the beers cool!.

The site itself has a centrally located shower and toilet block which was immaculately clean very time we used it.

The only down side was we where pitched along way from it and with a 2yr old, it was a long way to walk to the toilets for her lucky we took the potty just in case.

The indoor swimming pool was very clean and warm and our little one enjoyed the jacuzzi as well.

All the staff where very friendly and the little shop was handy if you forgot anything as the nearest shop is twenty mins away.

We will be going back to the Orchards again this time in the summer.

Took advantage of the 'package' deal which included 7 nights at The Orchards to include a very pleasant return ferry trip from Lymington.

On arrival we were shown to our pitch (all are EHU) by friendly helpful staff. Pitches in the tent part of the site are either on a mild slope or on raised levels. Ours was more than adequate for our Wynnster 8m x 8m plus car.

It's not the biggest site in the world so might not suit those who are used to wide open expanses but there is a separate field for games etc and a dog walking field.

The pools indoor and out are great and both heated, we took along a free Best Of British Loyalty Card which allowed us free access to the indool pool which otherwise has charge (£1. 50 per person or £5 per family per session). Local firm ran a scuba taster session in outdoor pool (£8 for around 45 mins) plus a longer tuition taster session (£14) which were great fun for those (kids and parents) wanting to have a go for the first time.

Small playground to keep younger ones entertained.

Toilet/Shower facilities - there is nothing more I can add to what others have said. You WILL struggle to find better anywhere, they are arguably way over the top for the size of site but who am I to complain about that! Cleaned regularly by a team of people who clearly want to maintain very high standards.

Take-away on site was perfectly acceptable. Also ate out at the Horse & Groom just over a mile away from the site at Ningwood - really good food and service. Also the Fighting Cocks at Arreton is another great family pub with really good food and service.

Overall, The Orchards is a super little site, not the cheapest of course but still in my humble opinion good value for money.

Everything on the Isle of Wight - apart from the pubs and restaurants - seems to close at 5pm, which means the Island was totally asleep on an evening! When I mentioned this to some local business men they told me it's because the trade isn't there any more. And by the way - do not run out of petrol or you are in trouble!

Back to the Orchards! The potential for this site is massive. Okay - it's a family run business and they are possibly happy with the way it is, because I must be honest, the site was extremely busy.

First of all it is extremely clean and tidy, has a shop selling the typical token goods, and a brand new shower block which is excellent.

Now the negatives. Don't go to this site if you don't want to use your car all of the time! It is at least 5 miles from anything or anywhere, and you find all of the stuff that you will require - like good beaches and tourist attractions - are all nearer ten miles away. You will constantly find yourself travelling to the other side of the Island

Also, I have never seen so many notices posted on a site. Don't do this! Don't do that! The latest one - which isn't posted on their website - is 'Do not ride your bikes on site. ' Great! It seems that the island is full of cycle paths - sadly none of them are near this site.

The pitches are small, we had room for our caravan, awning and car - and that is it!

The out door swimming pool is small - a dozen people and it's full, twenty people and it's packed! It could also do with some maintenance on the pool brick work. There is a charge for using the indoor pool which is small but here's a classic 'doesn't make sense. ' Because there is a charge, very few people use the indoor pool - I guess it's a psychological thing - which means that the six or so people per session using the indoor pool are being subsidised to the tune of a few pounds! (I think they should collaborate the whole pool area to give it a more continental feel, and put in a modern cafe area. ) And then there's another notice. 'Do not enter shower block if you are wet from the swimming pool. The chlorine damages the floor!' It's a holiday park where people are suppose to have fun - of course people will go in the showers from the swimming pool!

I will end on a positive. There isn't a 'youth culture' on the site - I guess this is because the Isle of Wight doesn't have anything to offer families with teenagers - so most campers are either retired, or have young families. Consequently there is little noise on a night. Fantastic! And the family next to us have been visiting the site for ten years and wouldn't go anywhere else - so someone obviously likes it!

My post may seem a little harsh, but I only wish someone had been more frank before I booked my holidays on the Isle of Wight! I booked this site - and the Isle of Wight - because of the positive reviews, and though I am not saying they are wrong, I am just saying some people maybe only review the good things!

Another satisfied customer. The 5 nights special from RedFunnel was used to book the site. Cannot fault for cleanliness, facilities looked good (although pools not used), takeaway serves standard takeway fayre - though everything is frozen and then either fried or pinged in the microwave. Only niggle was that we were asked to vacate our pitch as it was booked for the day - we were on a hardstanding - nobody checked in for our pitch before we left for the ferry home - thathappened to 2 units - and we all sat together on the parkup field. As the site know what time ferries people are due to be on - and there is no real maintenance to be done on a hardstanding pitch then we felt it was a bit 'strict' to have us off our individual pitch by 11am - esp as the site ask you not to arrive before 2. However - notwithstanding this, it was a fantastic offer and we will be back! Next time - can we have sunshine though please instead of rain.

Excellent campsite for all ages. You will never find amenities on a campsite like these.

The only criticism we have, is the pitches are a little close together. On saying that, it did get people talking to each other.

It was also nice to wash up. Totally inside with the radio playing as in the toilets and showers, but also an excellent view.

The reception area is nice, shop good, but we couldn't understand why the takeaway wasn't open at tea time onwards.

There is local walks, but not ideal for cycles from the campsite. The roads are either narrow or not cycle friendly, but there are cycle tracks.

This campsite is one of the best we have been to. We arrived and were shown to our pitch, we asked for a sunny and quite pitch and were rewarded on both accounts. The site is spotless and well maintained. The staff are always helpful and with a smile. The wash rooms were amazing spotless. Well stocked shop that was very useful because yarmouth has the nearest supermarket. For eating out try the wheatsheaf in yarmouth wonderful food and brill staff. We are walkers so the surrounding country side is a must there are some wonderful walks the island is a real gem we are two old gribs so we didn't use the children's facilities on site
