Just returned - after 4 (Sat-Tue) nights at the start of the main school holiday. This was my 3rd stay at Whitemead, but my first in a tent - the experience was a good as ever.

Whitemead is a family centric site, so if you’re looking for a quiet, basic site - don't come here :)

Although the site was full (500+), the generous pitch sizes, ensured that we did not feel claustrophobic.

The restaurant/self-service café were a good standard, and offered a good standard that was excellent value for money.

The bar prices were no more than regular pub prices. The entertainment was the generic - “kidz” disco, followed by live band, which went down well with the majority of our party (unfortunately I am a musical fascist – therefore 70’s covers bands do not hit my spot – LOL).

The club closed at 11:30, and by midnight the camping area was silent.

We used the fantastic indoor heated pool everyday, and again even though the site was full, although busy, it was not jam packed – in fact Tues and Wed were almost empty !

I showered in the pool changing area, however other members of the party used the camping showers, and the general comment was positive.

There was loads of (fee paying) daytime activities – such as, football coaching, climbing wall, rambling etc

In summary, if you are looking for a “family fun type site” set in a quiet, yet beautiful area of the country, I would suggest that Whitemead is “hard to beat”.

As our first experience of camping with 2 young children (aged 2 and 6) this was a first class site. With the leisure facilities, shop and playground, not to mention the spacious pitches, there was everything that we needed. We visited midweek, so not sure how much noise the disco generated at the weekend, but it wouldn't stop us returning.

Only two minor criticisms, one that our pitch was on quite a considerable slope, and that the staff were functional and not overly warm, but apart from that really enjoyed it and will definitely return. Great value for money.

We loved this site, it's great value for money. Indoor pool / sauna / solarium / gym, evening entertainment at the Venue Club(all included in the price), with also the choice of a bar away from the Club to have a quieter pint.Play area and shop very good.

The pitches were great, we stayed in the DELL area.Lovely access straight into to the forest and walking distance to the local pubs.

Checking in was very quick, the staff very friendly, only one little down side no TV signal or mobile.

We have booked again for June, but as others have said you need to get in early, I've tried several dates only to be told they are full.

Simply brilliant site. Huge pitches though the mesh makes it hard to peg into, both grass and hard standing. Excellent facilities all very very clean, with warm shower that had pressure - so often a rarity on sites. Fantastic swimming pool complex and well stocked shop on site. Near to lots and lots to do including several excellent pubs that are family friendly. The site is reasonably easy to find but could do with more signposts! Have booked to go back in august for a week. I can't say enough good things about this site so book now or be disappointed because they fill up really quickly!

Myself & my partner stayed here for 3 nights in a very windy December weekend on a mesh covered grass pitch. The pitches were of an excellent size an the view from the caravan was great,as the pitches we were on were on various levels overlooking the club house and open land.

The challets, log cabins an touring caravans all made an effort in lighting up with christmas decorations which made the weekend a very nice atmosphere. As for the site, its very clean & tidy, the showers were spotless an nice an warm.

The bar, restaurant, pool and entertainment complex was very good indeed and tastefully decorated. The food was well priced although we didnt sample any an the price of drinks was no different to being in your local pub, where some sites are usually very expensive. We shall be returning hopefully sometime this summer & would certainly reccomend this site to anyone. Overall, very good value for money.

Great site, have been loads of times before, it was much modernised a few years ago, without spoiling the beauty of the site.

The good:

Good sized pitches

Some hard standing

Well located water and waste facilities

Supports rubbish recycling!

Great swimming pool, and gym.

Shop on site.

Late checkout availiable for £5 to extend time from 11pm to 6pm if no one is booked in.

Beautiful woodland, and lovely open grassed areas.

Clean and tidy.

Total weekend £51 for 3 nights on EHU with late departure.

Very strict about pitch setup which I think is great because you dont get anyone camping awning to awning, or too close.

The bad:

Disco beat thumping until 11pm on weekends, great if your there bopping, bad if your in bed sleeping.

Only 6 showers for all caravaners and campers.

Pitches next to football pitch with metal goals can be noisy.

Toilet blocks can be a bit far for campers, which is a bit unfair as the tent pitches are the furthest away from the tolets and the caravans the closest. Seems backward to me as most caravans have on board facilities!

Seperate area for tents so you may not be close to family or friends if one lot in caravan and other lot in tent, but I am sure Whitemead will try and accommodate if possible.

Such a great site that it is usually booked up well in advanced!

Please see my other review on Woodlands campsite nearby for local facilities, but one place I forgot to mention is GO APE. A high wire, climbing, sliding, swinging course which is great for adults and children. It is based at Mallards Pike lake just up the road from the campsite. Please see www.Goape.Co.Uk for details, it is a great day out.

My daughters and I stayed in one of the log cabins and we were meeting friends who took a caravan.  I have been on a few of these sites before, but never one so clean, tidy and safe.  The log cabins were spotless - even came with a dishwasher and TV in the bedrooms - better than some homes I would say.  The caravan/tent pitches were clean, big and all the facilities were excellent.  Evening entrainment was good - Sammy the squirrel was a bit tiring, but the Funky Monkeys were the best kids act I have seen in a long time.  Kids were shattered which was excellent! Food during the day and in the evening was fab - best campsite food ever.  Well worth an evening in the restaurant - I almost forgot were I was!

We will be regularly users of this site - if we can get in!

Great site stayed here a few times now. Have booked for another three visits this year. A very popular site with members, which can be difficult to book for peak times.

Good facilities for the kids, and the forest walks and bike rides start at the entrance to the site. No wonder people come back.

Whitemead Forest Park is one of the nicest sites we have visited as a family, even my 15 year old daughter is more than happy to return again and again. She has waited five years since our first visit to use the sauna! she will be 16 when we go this August, and can therefore finally use it. The staff are so friendly and nothing seems to be too much trouble, even the manager gets his hands dirty, and can be seen on occasions serving behind the club bar. The site is always clean and tidy, and the grounds are a pleasure to walk through. It is a shame that not all camp sites are not run in the same way.

Can echo all the plus points about the site with one MAJOR addition.

The site is open to non-members - they just have to pay slightly higher fees.

One minor drawback of the site is that the grass pitches do get VERY soggy when they are wet. My friend managed to bog down a Discovery on his pitch.

Have just come back from February half term and had a great week. Am also going there again for Easter with 2 other vans full of family.
