What a fab, peaceful location in the forest.
Huge range of activities on offer.
Excellent evening entertainment, drinks a bit pricey though.
Great idea adult only swimming 8-9am, hot jacuzzi, sauna and steam room.
We had huge hard standing pitch with lovely views.
However as said previously toilets let this site down badly! There are too many privacy rooms and only 3 small showers which frequently flooded.
I really hope this can be improved we would come back again.
Ross on Wye great for shopping.

Have just returned from a 3 night stay at Whitemead Forest Park. The location is fantastic - the Forest of Dean is on your door step with plenty of walks and cycle trails for all abilities.
The campsite itself is in a beautiful setting and the facilities are second to none. The kids enjoyed the pool area and the evening entertainment.
We ate in the restaurant once and were not disappointed. The prices seemed fair and the portions were large. The staff were always pleasant and helpful.
My only criticism would be that the toilet/shower block was not up to scratch. It lets the whole site down really. Both the mens and ladies were constantly flooded and, as mentioned before, the toilets do not flush very well. These really need some proper attention.
We would return to this site but, hopefully, after the toilet/shower block is revamped.

Just returned from a 5 night stay here, the site is lovely, the grass pitches are a good size, but some could do with a little TLC/grass seed. Awning ground sheets must be breathable, but then tents share caravan pitches so no grass where our awning was! Friends had Dog Mess on their pitch 3 times! Reported to Reception and it was removed:).
In the main toilet block there are only 3 ladies showers, located just through the entry door, which results in congestion due to queueing, I found that the shower curtain wrapped itself round me whilst in the shower and the cubicle floor ends up wet! There are 6-8 toilets and opposite them small privacy cubicles for washing. The toilets don't flush very well and need attention, as previously stated there's a lot of wasted space in there.
Lots of activities to keep everyone happy, great location. Parkend has a couple of pubs (we visited The Fountain, does food), post office, bike hire/cafe & Dean Forest Railway. Well worth a return visit.
11am departure, can be extended (for a small fee) subject to availability

What a fantastic site! we have just returned from a weekend break and have a fabulous time with our children 5yrs & 2yrs and Jake (our lab). We stayed on a grass pitch with electric hook up, loads of space with water/waste in easy reach. Two nights was £48 but you don't pay any extra for the indoor pool, sauna and steam room or jacuzzi. The play area was fine for older and younger kids and the field is always busy with groups playing football, cricket etc. The dog and kids loved the forest which was accessed through a gate from the site you could explore all day. There was free entertainment in the evening with a kids disco before a professional act. I would definitely return

Whitemead Forest Park is in a lovely location within easy reach of lovely forest walks and local pubs.
Excellent facilities - shop, pool, jacuzzi, gym and bar and restaurant.
Toilets and showers OK, but a little tired and not always spotless.
Very friendly and helpful staff everywhere.
Hardstanding pitches were a good size and level.
A very family oriented site - not sure if it would suit everyone during school holidays, but was quite quiet when we were there - apart from a boisterous school party.
We had a lovely time and will go again.

We have just returned from our second visit to Whitemead Forest Park. Again we had a fantastic break. In a fantastic location in the Forest of Dean this site has all the facilities you need at a great price. Pool area, steam room and sauna great with splash time sessions for the kids, lovely bar area and restaurant, good freshly cooked food and always of a good standard. Daily and evening entertainment during school holidays. Good facilities for caravans and tents, ehu, hard standing or grass pitches all in good locations and well spaced. Would definitely recommend Whitemead and we will certainly be returning.

The site is in the middle of the Forest of Dean and ideal for dog walkers and mountain bikers. It is also good for children. It has a good swimming pool, kids play area and club with small kids club.
The site has two touring locations. I would recommend that if you are in a tourer the pitches 1 to 9 are the best. It has two blocks that are very clean and user friendly. My only comment and this is not negative is that they have wasted a lot of floor space in the gents and could have larger showers and more of them.
The site has a shop (Londis), restaurant and take away service which is great. You order your take-away, get your pager, to let you know the food's ready, then head to the bar (a nicly laid out area) get a drink and it takes the exact amount of time to drink a pint for the pager to go off! The food is good and reasonably priced. My only comment is that during the day the area feels more like a motorway services and needs lighting up.
While there we visited Raglan Castle, Chepstow Castle, Dean Visitor Centre (don't allow dogs and £3 to park to find out) and the forest (again £3. 50 to park at the picnic areas).
I would use this site again if visiting the Forest of Dean

We have just returned from a weekend break ( friday-monday )having visited this camp many times before out of the main season this being our first visit in august and we felt the camp was at full stretch.
Our 2 grand daughters aged 4+10 enjoyed themselves as they always do here, but we felt the camp toilets / showers could have been cleaner and maybe due an upgrade as they are starting to look a little tired for sure, possibly because the camp was full?
We will be returning here again but not in high season, also the grass pitches looked bare,
Don't want to come across as negative just our thought's and a few people we spoke to on this occasion felt the same way.

We visited this site for the second time, the first being three years ago, and unfortunately were not so impressed this time. The site has good and bad points:
The hardstanding pitches are level, a good size and well spaced. The grass pitches however suffer badly and were mainly mud patches when we visited.
As the site has predominately grass pitches this then has a knock-on affect on other site facilities meaning the shower/toilets are always suffering with grass cuttings/mud etc.
The cleaner has her work cut out and unfortunately the toilets were never really clean.
Site was full of very large family groups when we visited who mainly want to dominate all facilities.
Lots and lots of children, but the main problem was large groups of loud teenage groups, who would swear constantly, hang around in the ladies toilets for long periods in the mornings and then drink in the toilets in the evening! - Perhaps we were just very unlucky with the week we visited.
On the positive side pool, sauna gym etc very good. Restaurant was reasonably priced with very good food. Take away service from here too. Shop adequate.
The location is excellent. We hired bikes and toured the forest - in the rain and mud but brilliant fun! Visit Gloucester and we went to Cardiff too - not too far(use the park and ride)
Overall a picturesque site with good facilities - take a visit and hope your not as unlucky with inconsiderate other guests as we were!

I have been to this site at least one per year for the past 8 years. It provides really good value and excellent family facilities. Evening entertainment / showers / swimming pool are all included in the price. There are miles of woods and trails through them. It is extremely popular with families and our children always find friends
To play with. Happy children = happy parents!
I usually use a grass caravan pitch (as do many other tents) because they come with electric hook up, are flatter and are nearer the toilet blocks. As I said before it is (deservedly) popular and you need to book well in advance, however its popularity means that some of the pitches are well worn.
The site has reinforced some of the grass pitches with a plastic mesh but the grass and soil has worn away in patches leaving the reinforcement exposed, which is pretty uncomfortable when you kneel on it! This really is the only negative point I can think of, and I usually manage to pitch the tent so the bedrooms aren't on the reinforcement.
Most of the pitches are on terraces so you look out over the tops of the other pitches and get lovely views of the forest. - Just don't expect absolute tranquillity - there are a lot of kids there!
