Just had three rather chilly nights at Whitemead, arriving one day after the 2 to 3 inches of snowfall. Temperatures stayed below freezing for the time we were there and yes, obviously it was mighty cold (but not as bad as the minus 15 for our first visit).
Reception and shop staff were all very friendly and welcoming.
It was a relief to go for a swim in the warm indoor pool and it was so quiet that one evening we had the pool to ourselves, though were disappointed that the jacuzzi was out of action.
There were no water taps in use except for the laundry, but we managed fine.
We were hoping to cycle but even the bike trails were hazardous with compacted ice, so we walked, once to Nags Head nature reserve and once to Cannop Ponds.
We ate in the Fountain pub on two occasions; very friendly people and very good food.

Good location and facilities. You can walk straight into the woodland or further afield. Pubs within walking distance.
You can order food from your caravan via qr code if you like and pick it up as a takeaway. We had a pizza. It wasn’t bad but way too much cheese.
Shop was well stocked.
Pool are great.
Dislikes :-
Pet friendly to a point. Dogs not allowed in the bar area, should accept them in part of the bar at least.
No phone signal and the Wifi was terrible
Not many water taps
There were too many people packed in like sqrdines and a lot of them were up late and rowdy
Wouldn't return as it’s too commercial

If you want the full "butlins" experience then this is the place to go.
Loads of good facilities including a pool and spa which are all very well maintained.
It's a huge site with a large amount of people crammed in but it is in a beautiful setting.
Do note there is very little phone signal and the wifi barely works.
Great for families and the older generation but not good if you want to get back to nature.

Been visiting here for 20 years and this year was a disappointment. So in regards site rules and pitching instructions - do what you want no one enforces anything!. We were advised that pup tents had to go on the hard standing and not on the adjacent grass areas this did not apply to several people, social distancing a joke, fire pits popular, lots of groups getting together and drinking to the early hours.
Children and adults on bikes, skateboards and scooters racing around the plots at the top of the site up and down the hills, we even had one kid and his skateboard crash into our awning when misjudging a down hill corner, how a kid did not get hit by a car I wonder!
On a positive note the Miners Arms at Whitecroft a pleasant walk through the woods did a good pint, canoeing on the Wye was great and as usual the cycling and walking from the site were excellent.
On a general note the toilet facilities are looking a bit tired and could have done with more cleaning, the outside bar area needs more tables and chairs and protection from the rain whilst social distancing measures are in place. Would also be good to see hand sanitisers at the play areas.

Surroundings were beautiful
However our stay was spoilt by noisy drunken families until late and the staff doing nothing about it till past midnight.
Adults wanting a peaceful time should avoid during school holidays.

We have used this site for over 20 years but tend to avoid school holidays - we remember why now! We expected in these post-covid times that there would’ve have been some limits on numbers but it was the busiest we’ve ever seen.
The campsites looked very disorderly and cluttered with tents campers and caravans mixed everywhere with no respect of the pitching instructions. Some of the units were clearly not road-worthy and there were a lot of first-time campers!
Our neighbours pitched their table and chairs inches away from our caravan - luckily it rained so they went elsewhere to continue drinking. We didn’t use any of the facilities since they were overcrowded and non of the staff or customers were using gloves or masks.
The forest is beautiful and so was this site until they overdeveloped it :-( There are better places to stay to explore the area.
