We have stayed here several times over the past 10 years. A well laid out site with an option of hard standings and grass. We recommend the hard standing as the grass can get muddy and over used. The best thing about this site is the indoor swimming pool and leisure facilities.
The site is surrounded by forest. We saw a wild boar and its young just through the gate into the forest. The Forest of Dean offers many routes for off road cyclists. Most of these are ideal for families with children. A firm favourite is a canoe trip down the River Wye. It doesn’t demand great experience, the scenery and the wildlife are spectacular. Look out for kingfishers and other water birds as well as the peregrines as you glide under the cliffs at Symonds Yat Rock. Symonds Yat Canoe Hire will take you a few miles up stream in their minibus and you then just paddle downstream. Almost as easy as poo sticks!

Stayed for 5 nights during half term and will be returning!
The pool was open all day & nice and clean.Being half term, there was loads of things for the kids to do-from battlesports (paintballing using lasers not paint) to nailpainting; most had a small charge but worth it.
The restaurant food was good, and the evening entertainment was great-from quizzes to George Michael! Andy the entertainer was fab with the kids- I want him to live at my house!
The on site shop isn't huge, and could do with stocking up a bit more on essentials rather than kids toys, but Lydney town is only a few minutes away to get other stuff.
Loos and showers were clean, and the site itself was well kept and in a great position-surrounded by the beautiful Forest of Dean.
We were around when the Severn Bore came up the River Severn, and there are viewing areas a few miles away to see this.Gloucester is about 20 miles away and has a lovely cathedral and docks-with lots of cafes and antique places to while away your day! The forest steam railway is within walking distance, which you can hop on and off as you go,and the nearby Fountain Pub-also in walking distance;about 2 mins in fact!-does 2 meals for a tenner which are really nice.
Overall a lovely site, although I would try and request a gravel pitch on booking as some of the lower grass pitches were a bit boggy.By the way-follow the website directions to get there-our satnav tried to take us through the forest several times!

This is by far one of our most favourite sites, We have been visiting this site since 2003 starting with the log cabins, we then braved the wintery weather to attempt a Christmas break, which surprisingly went very well.
Thanks to the technology of the caravan we were warm and dry, we were prepared for the snow if it arrived, and of course it did, Whitemead are geared for the family break and with the weather being to cold we could only entertain the children with woodland walk for so long, so the heated pool really came into it's own along with the steam room and jacuzzi,
The restaurant carries a wide range of meals, and is well priced, the site was clean and well gritted, the outside areas have all that you would need, the washing facilities were excellent so were the showers.
We were greeted upon arrival and shown to our pitch the reception was open from early in the morning until late and we found the staff most helpful. In all a great place to stay for a wintery break remember warm clothes and wellies !

Visited this site for 5 days in September 2010 from a recommendation from a friend.
It is owned by the CSMA (Civil Service Motoring Association) and luckily my company is a valid member and allowed me to join the club. This gives member discounts on pitching costs.
The site was smaller than expected which was actually very welcome.
There are a series of 'terraces' with a mix of grass and hardstanding - primarily for caravans but of course the grass ones can be used by tents. Each one has a tarmac road in front and behind allowing vehicle access.
All of these have electric hookup.
We booked a pitch on the lowest level near the toilets and main buildings.
As we were near the end of the season the pitch was half mud rather than grass. OK whilst dry.
A short distance further away is more grass areas just for tents. Most with no hookup I believe.
The site also has lodges you can hire if caravan or tents are not your thing.
The toilets/showers are very clean and as mentioned before - because it is a compact site, fairly near any tent pitch.
There is an on site swimming pool, cafe, restaurant, softplay room and games room - all included in the pitch price.
Also there is an entertainment hall where they put on various entertainment including a kids disco. We didn't use this when we stayed.
Travelling with a 2 year old the pool and softplay were fantastic.
The site is located in the centre of the Forest of Dean so easy access to all the facilities of the forest is on the doorstep.
We have already booked another 5 days for this June.

Check in, Friendly helpful service and was fast and hassle free!
The Venue had some brilliant Entertainment and Dan the Entertainer was very funny and done some great games during the night. Cabarets are very good.
The Facilities were of a high standard clean and tidy and the pool and bars were excellent. I could not fault any area of our long weekend stay.
The village has 2 great pubs and are really nice and friendly. The area is beautiful and definitely worth a visit. We will be returning!

Our second visit to Whitemead, and we have booked again for Oct half term and next Easter! There is so much for every age, and our 9 year old loved it and made lots of friends all week. Lots of organised family football, rugby, cricket, etc, plus a court and a huge green field to play in at all other times. Had some lovely walks in the forest which is a very short walk from the site entrance.
Swimming pool is lovely, clean and open from early until late. The splashtime was very busy, but kids abs loved it! Great gym overlooking the play field.
A little disappointed with the standard of cleanliness in the toilets, and it didn't help that the flushes didn't work well at all. The showers were very hot, but very trickily! They really could do with a bit of an upgrade compared to some other sites.
Had a fantastic visit to the International Bird of Prey centre in Newent (approx 30 mins from site). We do recommend a visit, the flying displays were awesome, and the home made cakes scrumptious!.

Well what a Great Site. On arrival told where are pitch was, which was easy to find, we had a gravel pitch which they don't have many of (glad we did as grass pitches were bad with the rain)
Lovely clean site, showers 7 out 10 clean but need updating and only 3 showers in each block.
Shop 6/10 closes once through the day, prices ok.
Club house 9/10 good entertainment
Bar 9/10 separate from Club
Restaurant 10/10 great food at a fair price ie 10oz Gammon Steak with loads of trimming (egg & pineapple) £8, there own made beefbuger with all the trimming £7.95 and it was big.
Take away 10/10 good choice and good prices ie bacon and egg bap £2.50 that too was big
Swimming Pool 9/10 very clean and good time slots for adults only, splashtime or general swim.
This park is nice as they don't overcrowd it, there's plenty of Greenbelt, lovely tree's, plenty of places to play (no roller skates of scooters) Bikes are ok, there are lots of bike trails off site once you find them as there not very well signed, lovely walks through the forest.
Down side a little noisy when club finished but lovely to wake up to only the sound of Birds and some sheep
Would go again but leave it a little later when all the Bluebells are out in the Forest

We visited whitemead at Easter for the first time and it wont be our last! The pool and leisure facilities were fantastic ( plenty to do ).
The toilets and showers were kept nice and clean. The surrounding area was stunning, lots of cycle tracks and lovely walks. We didn't eat on site but found a fantastic local pub / restaurant in nearby coleford called the montague inn. It offered good home cooked food at very resonable prices.
Would recommend a gravel pitch as the site was a little boggy, but to be expected at the time of year we visited.

1st time we have stayed at Whitemead but wont be the last! What a great all round site, we were very lucky the weather was dry all week so did a lot of walking and cycling & believe me there's acres of forest for that! Facilities on site are 1st class, we enjoyed the pool, sauna and spa pools, even did an aqua aerobics & pilates class.
The electricity tripped on the microwave, but no sooner had I reported it, the handy man guy was there to change the fuse, worked well after with no tripping. Just a word of warning, mobiles have a poor signal, Orange picked up better than other networks. If you must take DVD's, TV signal POOR!

Stayed here over the xmas break, a real find, fantastic facilities, beautiful settings, superb pool with free sauna, steam room, comfy bar, small ball pit and arcade, nightly entertainment, lovely food in take away / restaurant
Cant fault site really apart from lack of mobile coverage / poor tv signal, slightly overpriced food but you expect that, drinks appeared reasonable though.
Overall a lovely if expensive site, perfect for children, will definitely be returning at some stage next year
Note stayed on the dell area, flat and secluded, the meadow area was rather more packed in, also large tesco only 4 miles away
