Found this site by looking for a campsite near Brighton with a view to meeting up with Family during our stay.
Nice, basic campsite with good, serviceable toilets and showers. Where we were pitched had long, cut grass and this tended to get walk-in everywhere (my only real criticism though). It was August bank-holiday and although busy on our first night (Sat), was much less so on the Sunday.
The staff at reception were friendly and helpful, and had a few basic camping items for sale. There was also a freezer where you could freeze your ice-packs free.
Henfield is a nice little town about 5 minutes drive away. There is fuel, a hardware store and a One-Stop, all open late on a Saturday afternoon.
We had an excellent meal at the Bull pub. The menu reads like an Italian restaurant’s so avoid if this isn’t your thing.
As has been mentioned previously, there is a large children’s play area with some amusing fibreglass animals – my kids loved them.
There is also a small fishing lake on site. Don’t fish without a landing-net though (like I did!) as there are reasonable size carp in the lake.
Many thanks to the kind gent who lent me his net!
All in all, a great ‘real’ campsite and one I’ll definitely return to.

WE stayed at Blacklands for the first time last weekend and were fortunate to have the good weather! We never know what to expect when we arrive at new places as everyone who leaves reviews has different likes/dislikes. We are very particular about having our own privacy (as much as possible) therefore when we see campsites advertised as fields we are usually quite nervous. However we were very impressed with blacklands the bottom field filled up quite quickly so we were glad we chose to set up in the lake field which did not get so busy although this is only open fri & sat. We camped on the corner of the lake and had a great spot that felt very private. Unfortunately our dog could not keep herself out of the water so we felt the need to move so she was not trying to pull our table that she was attached to in with her! We moved to the edge of the field (there was another field attached that you could not camp in) we faced that field and again felt that we had some privacy and not looking at everyone elses tents! The empty field we felt was a great place to throw balls with our dog off lead too. During the day we took the footpaths at the back of the lake to whineham lane we turned left and followed that lane all the way to a dog friendly pub. This pub has a resident staffordshire bullterrier called Ace that runs around.Very pleassent dog and a lovely little old school country pub it was just perfect. We picked some sloe berrys on the way back as there was plenty of trees for this. There seemed to be loads of toilet blocks on this site and all very clean as well as washing up points (although no hot water at these) overall a very good site, we will be returning.

Just returned from 2 nights at Blacklands.
The reason for our visit was to attend our friends' wedding in Brighton, and having looked at the website and reviews, decided that Blacklands was the most appealing site with good access to the city.
I have to say, though, that the website gives a very different 'feel' to the place than is actually the case. Blacklands is nothing more than a large field, with another field next to it that is only open on a Friday and Saturday night. The full-time field, we found, wasn't particularly welcoming. It's large, and there's a lot of units (this place is, undeniably, popular). In one corner of the field is a mass of storage caravans, which are a bit of an eyesore. Along from these, are 4 or 5 portakabins, which are the loos and showers. There's plenty of them.
We just felt that Blacklands lacked character - there's plenty of potential, and plenty of space, and the lake field is more like a proper campsite, but the main field just feels like a motorway service station car park with grass.
Having said all this, for whatever reason Blacklands Farm seems to appeal to many. It's just not our bag. Camping for us is more about detaching oneself from day to day monotony, and we just felt that Blacklands didn't do this for us.
There's plenty of space for the kids to let off steam - with a big wooden boat in the middle of the field, and that's exactly what the kids did when we were there - don't expect any peace as of 8am!
Something else that made this not the most pleasurable camping experience was the abundance of wasps. If you don't like wasps, don't go to Blacklands Farm! They really are persistently pesty!
To give them their due, I think that they have made an effort to make Blacklands a comfortable place to be, but have just missed a few points here and there.

A fantastic site, proper old school camping, where serious campers go. Spent a great weekend on the site where we were kept thoroughly entertained by a group of very considerate families that shared their time with us. The fibreglass animals were an amusing feature that kept both the children and other considerate campers occupied.
The rules are few, but easy to adhere to, and there was absolutely no noise after 11pm, which was much appreciated by myself and my neighbours who camped with Alice.
The facilities were more than adequate with plenty of hot water, free coolblox freezing and a great play area for the kids. This site is an absolute gem, and we will be going back again.

We spent 7 nights on this site and although fairly pleasant there are a few things that need attention. Firstly, the toilets and showers although a recent addition look old already. There is only cold water in the mens wash basins, soap dispensers with no soap and a general untidiness. The one annoying problem is that when the owner cuts the grass it is fairly long between cuts so that there are piles of cut grass all over the field which gets in the tents and the toilets and showers. The site needs a good tidy up. The shop, although advertised on its door as open every day is only open at weekends and the field which has the lake is only open Friday and Saturday nights. Not a high cost for camping but not the cheapest.

Just returned from our second visit this year (after the wet Easter - it was a nice hot w/end). The facilities have been updated drastically since Easter - well done Blacklands! Lots more loos/showers/hook-ups. Better washing up facilities (no hot though, but boil a kettle to take with you). No price increase, thank goodness.
We were in a mixed group of caravans and tents. On our return from shopping, a large group of tents had pitched so close we couldn't walk round without tripping over their guys. I did mention the fire regs of 3m between units to the chap in reception but he didn't know anything about them. Said he would look into it but didn't. This is my only gripe about this site - pitches are not marked, which is fine, but there doesn't seem to be any supervision. There was plenty of space, but everyone pitched very close to each other, leaving huge areas empty.

This site is run by an inexperienced young boy who checks the facilities daily but does very little cleaning. This is carried out once a week by 2 other men who did it at 8. 30am-the busiest time of the day! The showers have a very shabby, run down look about them although there is always plenty of hot water. Some of the older toilets are very small and covered in dust and cobwebs. The cut grass is not picked up and ends up in the showers and everywhere else. You are left to pitch wherever you like which resulted in another motorhome pitching about 4 feet in front of us completely blocking our view. I think this site is more suited to tents than vans and there were lots of young families there during our stay. Part of the fishing lake is reserved for local club members leaving only a small area for campers. We walked into Henfield via the footpaths and also cycled the Downs Link in both directions. We really liked the area but we would not return to this site

Just spent a weekend on this site with friends, our first visit. Peaceful site with an open grassy area in the middle of field for ball games etc. However disappointed in the facilities, the newest toilet block was clean but out of hand towel for most of the weekend. However, the worst thing was no hot water in any of the toilet blocks (clearly never has been, the hot taps are there but no water at all comes out of them). Also water at washing up sinks only tepid. We boiled a kettle for all our requirements but felt at £17 per night we really ought to have been able to use the tap. Pity, as the site is well located (just round the corner from Nymans and level and apparently the showers are very hot

Just returned from a weekend at Blacklands farm , what a great site, very family friendly, facilities are clean with nice hot showers.
Pitches were nice and flat grass seems to be kept nice and short but the ground isn't full of cut grass so our tent didn't get full up with it.
There isn't a great deal in walking distance though the royal oak pub is worthwhile trek.
Going to visit here again as it could be my new default site

Booked this site on the basis of reviews read here and we weren't disappointed (well, apart from one quite major niggle, but more of that later).
Good points:
:: Clean loos with plenty of loo roll, despite being simple portaloos
:: Lots of toilets available
:: Clean, hot showers with 2 great family showers which are perfect if you have small kids
:: No noise after 11pm rule is very well observed
:: Easy to find site
:: Great for planning days out to the beach (try Shoreham-by-Sea - so much quieter than Brighton and some sand at low tide)
Bad points:
:: On Saturday night there was a rave a short distance away - it was still going strong at 2am so not sure when it finished, as that's when we finally remembered about the ear plugs at the bottom of our essentials box. Such a shame really, as the no noise rule was observed by everyone on the campsite and would have made for a very peaceful night (bar the odd snoring episode!)
In a nutshell, if the raves are a regular feature we will not be returning (someone else mentioned them in their review), but we are going to try and find out. If they can be avoided, then we'd love to return.
