We are a large family who come to blacklands farm a lot during 2015, we have tents, caravan, trailer tent and a camper. We have loved our stay every time we visit, our ages range from 18 months to 60 yrs one of our children is wheelchair bound. Recommend this site for everyone, roll on better weather for this year

Fantastic site for chilling - very popular with young families and it was great seeing all the little kids playing in the super playground in the middle of the field. The toilet and shower blocks were good and plenty of them. The area is beautiful with the lake for fishing as well. Fab little shop well stocked with things at a good price. Nice friendly people who run the site and very friendly campers as well! My neighbour got his van stuck and there were many offers of help to get him out! All in all I would recommend this place and I will definitely be returning. The villages of Henfield and Hurstpierpoint are only a couple of miles away so to anyone who doesn't know the area those would be worth a visit and Brighton and Shoreham, etc, not far to the south.

We returned to Blacklands Farm yet again this August (5 years in a row now, but not always our main camping holiday) for a few days camping, with my 2 boys & one of their friends. I like this site for ease of last minute booking, it is always busy towards weekends, but I've never had a problem reserving a pitch online & paying when we got there (even book the day before with no problems) I like to pitch in the first field, tents are pitched facing the kids playground area in the center which is ideal for parents to be able to relax & keep an eye on their kids. There are lots of swings, a large old wooden ship, large plastic cows & a whale to climb & sit on, generally a large play area for all ages. Most essentially for my boys there are the two large goals, again situated in the middle grass area, for them to kick a footie around whilst I'm cooking or reading.
The small on site shop sells most essentials, milk, eggs, newspapers, sweets, toys etc and the staff have always been friendly & chatty! They have a freezer for you to store your own ice blocks & food if you choose to.
I would say the only thing that needs updating to a degree are the showers and toilet blocks. Toilets are ok and always clean & well stocked with toilet rolls. Showers are slightly dated with 'useless' shower curtains & the hot water can be a bit 'hit & miss' depending on how busy it is at the time of day! Henfield is a nice village with a Budgens & shops & restaurants a plenty. Shoreham is the nearest seaside town which has lots to see & do, and Shoreham beach is pebbles but lovely when the tide goes out. We go back year after year for all round good quality, reasonably priced, good local camping with a friendly family atmosphere!

Another fantastic stay at Blacklands farm!
We visited with a group, arriving on a Friday lunchtime. We had friendly welcome and a good choice of where to pitch. However, the man in his golf buggy was not so friendly and a rather grumpily told us where us with EHU could be and those without EHU mustn't block it as all fully booked, so we arranged ourselves accordingly - only to find that even by Sunday morning barely half of the EHU points near us were taken! Also kept getting nagged to move a car to the outside - despite still pitching up. Definitely not as friendly and relaxed as previous visits. It may still not be defined pitches but neither is it quite the 'pitch where you like, as long as leave enough space' as it used to be.
The play area in center is still a big selling point for us. With a group of families and plenty of kids good central area to play is fantastic.
The loos and showers are adequate. Hot water, no queue and no charge, but are starting to look tired from a few years heavy use. More signage for the 'alternative' showers would be great as I hadn't realised there were more until one of our group came back having 'found' them! The loos really need cleaning more often especially with so many kids using them unaccompanied and leaving them unflushed/ dirty. More sinks would also be a great idea - morning and evening they become really busy as those trying to do their teeth have people waiting to just wash their hands. A few separate sinks for just doing teeth/ having a quick wash would make a big difference.
There is a pub few minutes drive away selling pizzas, a lovely garden and has a little play for kids. The site said it was a about an hours walk and gave out a map of the route so a few of the group walked while we drove. It took them 2hrs! The paths are overgrown and through fields with animals and signs telling you not to enter. Perhaps they need to walk the route themselves before advising others to do it.
Henfield is a few minutes drive and a pleasant little town with a range of shops selling all the basics you need and a few pubs.
Great for groups of families, but probably need to address the friendliness and keep facilities up to scratch for us to keep coming.

We have just returned from a two day trip at Blacklands. I don't think it is the easiest place to find but they could be just me. The other thing I would say is it can be a little noisy and there are lots of people burning fires which can be quite smoky. Although they say not to burn wood from the woods a lot of people were and some fires seemed very close to their tents! However, we didn't mind too much about the children playing and the site was fairly quiet after 11. 00pm
The shop seemed to stock most essentials and the toilets were ok. There was a lot of litter dropped by children which again is not the campsite owners fault but parents and the children.
We walked all around the site and there are some lovely quiet areas but they are awayt from the toilets/showers so your choice. Overal we enjoyed staying there and would visit again. It is a bit of a journey to any shops, there was a restaurant called baloos but we did not visit. So stock up before you get to the site.

We have just returned from a very wet weekend shared with our daughter, son in law and their 2 children (them in their tent and us in our caravan) at Blacklands Campsite. Booking was very easy on-line for both tent and caravan with hook up. Requirement was payment in full before setting up.
This could be a superb site as it is set in lovely Sussex countryside with lots of public footpath walks. We know the weather was atrocious, and this was mid-October, so very quiet, but I do think some investment should be made to update the toilet and shower facilities. Plenty of toilets which were relatively clean. I investigated the ladies shower room, but couldn't find the light switch - there were no windows, so couldn't see a thing, so unfortunately cannot comment on level of heating or hot/cold water. I think also that the rather dilapidated caravans and motorhomes parked at the top of the field nearby to reception, obviously occupied long-term, should be put 'round the back' out of site. The rubbish bin area was very untidy, littered with bins without lids, no order, a recycling bottle cage with half the bottles spilled out and generally looking unloved. The grass was very long and in need of a cut.
Come on Blacklands, you have a lovely site. Tidy it up. I'm sure you will reap the benefits. Doubt we will return, unless the site is cleaned up.

Mixed review really. This site is in a lovely location set well back from the road. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is a great little playground for smaller children, fire pits available to rent, a small shop providing the basics, wood and kindling BUT the toilet/shower/washing up facilities just really let it down. It is a shame really because if it wasn't for that it would be a really good camp site. The showers etc are all a bit old and have nasty shower curtains, very little light, water runs hot then cold then hot. Washing up water was cold and the whole block was just not kept clean enough. It is a shame really because if they invested in a good modern shower block and upgraded it this would be a fab little site. Full of potential just needs the upgraded facilities.

Great site away from the main road, with plenty of room for pitches (we have an 8x5 metre tent and we had room to spare). Owners had a very relaxed attitude about choosing your pitch, and it's easy to book as part of a group. No deposit is taken at booking, payment in full is made when you arrive on site.
The site is blissfully level, we were there during the tail-end of Hurricane Bertha and there did not seem any issues with flooded pitches either.
We stayed in the main field. Around the edge was the track for vehicle traffic, just inside that you park your car after setting up (so not directly next to your tent but close by), inside that are the pitches, then in the middle is a large area for ball games and a playground. Very well arranged in my opinion. There are at least 2 further fields and a fishing lake, which seemed to be quieter.
Toilet and shower blocks were close by, as well as several washing up facilities with drinking water taps, generally well maintained, although it would have been nice to have hot water at the basins in the toilet block to allow a quick wash if a shower was not wanted. The ladies had 4 showers available, men 3, and there were plenty of toilets. Showers were okay, reasonably clean, but the water temperature varied a little. There were a couple of family showers there too. Signs around here left a lot to be desired, being printed and laminated, which was all faded and tatty. The area was well lit.
There was a handy little shop at reception, selling standard stuff and firewood for the allowed camp fires. Would have been handy to have had menus for local takeaways? Henfield is close by with a Budgens, and for anything else required. I would definitely consider returning to this site as part of a group.

Access good - well signposted. Flat pitches and plenty of room - but it did get rather too busy for us. Most people observed the rules about noise. Nice pond with friendly, tame ducks.
Facilities pretty good. Free hot water in showers, but only 4 of them (for women) which was rather too few for such a big site.
Excellent shop with friendly and helpful staff.
Only cold water at sinks, but everything kept clean.
Far too few hooks - nowhere to hang anything.
Unlikely to go there again as it was a bit too big for our preference. Although the staff were friendly the campers were not really - no cheery 'good mornings'. The main field would be good for families.

I went to this site on my own with my two children (9 & 6).
When we arrived we were told to pitch anywhere we liked in the field with the hookups. There are more fields without elec near to the fishing lake but we did not use this.
We hired a brazier for our campfire and bought logs and kindling from the shop. All of which, for 3 nights was £30. Many marshmallows were toasted!
The site has a few ground rules, the main one being no music at all. I found this actually worked really well and everyone within my earshot adhered to the rule. Lights out at 11.
The shop was very well stocked and open each day. It sells a variety of games and toys for the kids as well as the basics. The shops coffee machine was a real plus.
The facilities were basic but clean and we didn't come across any queues for them.
There is a nearby village, a few pubs and there is a larger town (Burges Hill) 15mins away with all you need if you are running low on camping items etc.
The main attraction for this site for us was the play park and the subsequent amount of other children. My two made friends instantly and only came back to the tent for food and water!
We had a great time at this site, the weather certainly helped somewhat, and we will use this site again for short breaks away.
