Second year at this site . They appear to have changed to a 'traditional family site' which is not a problem if you are a family. However, the rule of 'No Noise' after 11pm mean you feel like you have to be in bed by that time! The other field was not open so what started as a short break in plenty of space quickly turned into a crush round the edge of the field (why don't people pitch in the middle? there is a whole empty field next door for games etc . Odd). They have also added to the toilet and shower blocks . Very functional. Highly recommended for families and those who like an early night! :)

At the site over the bank holiday and it was quite busy we were going to pitch in first field, but only spots left had lots nettle/thistles so luckily spotted 2nd field- there are no signs, just saw some others drive there.

Liked the openness of site and fact pitches weren't marked but half the field the grass was a foot high so not much fun to camp in. Luckily we were nearer the lake so grass better but also the large group that were minding the animals and playing a shouting/chasing/football games at 10.30pm.

The views were quite nice and the ground did well in the overnight rain, however ~I think the 3 sinks/water taps/toilets were quite poor for the £7 per person over the bank holiday

Spent the recent bank holiday weekend here and it was fine. Very large so there was enough space even though it got very busy. It's lively and boisterous and was dominated by very large family groups but everyone seemed to respect the 'No music, no noise after 11' rules so there's a good atmosphere.

Toilets and showers were fine - clean enough and well stocked with soap, loo roll etc. The weather was very good though, so what they'd be like on a rainy weekend, I don't know.

There are some nice pubs round here but if you've got small kids, get in the car.

If you're going to camp for the joy of camping then this is a good spot. If you want to use it as a base for sightseeing, I'd say you could find a better location as most attractions are a fair drive away.

Oh, and to the large family group who picked up all the fibre glass animals and kept them in your own little area so no-one else could play on them - shame on you!

My partner and I stayed at the campsite from Friday to Monday (Bank Holiday weekend). We were not sure where we could pitch up as there are 2 fields. The first was getting packed with caravans and so we made our way to the second field. Apparently the first is just for electric hook ups. (The first field is also where the showers, wash up areas and toilets are based)

Anyway, glad we arrived in the early afternoon as we got a nice pitch - our view was of the lake - so no one could pitch up in front of us.

Just across the lake were horses too and there is a public walkway for you to go see them - We also managed to see lots of ducklings too.

For the fishermans: we saw what the other campers caught when they were fishing: Carps & eels! Nice.

Even though the showers etc were far away from us, it was never a problem (as I need the exercise being 8 months pregnant!), the only thing is is that there is no hot water from any of the sinks and no soap. However, there were always toilet roll!

Anyhow, I could not believe how good our 1st shower was -the water was so hot. A bit strange that the shower units are unisex though I think. Anyway, I must have jinxed myself after the first shower as the following 2 showers we had, just had cold water :o(

There were no local shops of walking distance, but there is a farm opposite the campsite that sells free ranged eggs. We drove in to Brighton everyday which only took 20 minutes. We also drove into the local village of Henfield which had a Budgens and a few pubs.

All in all, we had a very enjoyable time as the weather was absolutely amazing but don't think I would visit again. Been there and done that now!

We've just had our first family camping trip & couldn't be happier with our first choice of location.

We arrived friday afternoon & headed down to the 2nd field as the first looked busy & its where the EHU's & facilities were. The view from the 2nd field is just beautiful looking down onto the carp lake. This view disappeared rapidly on Saturday as the site filled up, but we never felt crammed in.

The owner made several trips round so if you needed anything he was on hand. They have an honesty policy at reception so we never needed to speak to him.

There was also an ice cream van that came round twice a day & a fair price for the ice creams, our kids loved this!

The toilets were basic but kept well stocked with toilet roll & were clean. The only nagging point is that the water for washing up is cold. Not sure if this is standard on a basic site.

There is a local pub within walking distance with good play facilities for the children & reasonable food. And a lovely walk by the carp lake down to a river.

The campsite was busy but we still felt we had plenty of space, noise wasn't a problem. With 2 kids waking early we were in bed by 2130 & it was peaceful by then.

Just come back from a bank holiday weekend at Blackland farm, fortunately the weather was glorious, which always helps when camping, especially here where the grass isn't cut.
I have to admit that I really enjoyed the stay, the toilet / showers are nothing to write home about, just a group of portacabins, which tended to get really mucky, and the handwash basins only had cold water and no soap (not in the ladies anyway), also there was nothing to dry your hands on, so good idea to take your own soap and towel on each visit. The showers sometimes ran hot but more often than not were cold and because it was really busy were certainly not sufficient. I guess things would improve in a less busy period. Washing up facilities are 3 sinks placed in the open air just outside the toilet blocks, and only cold water is available.
The site consists of 2 fields, the second being the largest and I pitied those camping in the furthest corner of this field as they had such a way to go to get to the facilities. There are a number of electric hookup points but they are all very close together so those camping in this area seemed to be on top of one another, those not needing electric could camp where they liked.
That's the negative points out of the way, as I have said I enjoyed our stay, the campsite is really geared for families and there were many large groups of people, with ballgames being played in any clear space. I liked that aspect of the site, its great to see people enjoying themselves. Although it did make it rather noisy, an ice-cream van visited 2 or 3 times a day, (must have made a packet).
The owner of the site has provided a number of large fibreglass animals, (cows, a shark, a camel and a horse) and the kids had a ball clambering over these, there is no other play equipment for children though. The countryside is lovely and there are a couple of walks using public right of way tracks, inevitably leading to a decent pub.
The nearest shop is quite a long way away, so make sure you bring what you need with you. Brighton and Worthing are both within about a 20 minute drive, so the campsite was a good base for our visits to both these seaside towns.
The site owner did not put in an appearance during our stay, everybody was left to their own devices, he must certainly be very trusting as payment was made by putting money in an envelope and posting it through the reception office letter box. Normal price is £5 per person, but being a bank holiday this rose to £7 per person which for a family of five made it quite expensive for very poor facilities. Still it was better than staying at home watching the TV. Probably will not go again.

We've just got back from a lovely weekend at this site. The owners are very friendly, helpful and easy going. The facilities are basic but clean and the shower is not bad at all.
The play area suited my boys who are 6 and 3 and they played there literally all day even though it consists of an old tractor a swing and some fibre glass animals.
We stayed in the lower field which was level and both fields got quite busy but we weren't like battery hens!

You are allowed a fire as long as it is off the ground so we had our fire basket on an old oven tray sitting on bricks and the owner was quite happy with that as he doesn't want the grass to be ruined.

All in all a lovely basic site and we'll definitely be returning.

Last visit was September last year for my husbands 40th birthday with a small group of friends aged from two to sixty with a mix of tents and caravans. Everyone thought the site was fab, the facilities have improved since it first opened and it looks lovely.
Lots of people fishing at the pond and also good for walkers. No shops close by so come prepared. Very relaxed, you just need to pop your cash through the office door on arrival.
There is a pub in walking distance (about half an hour) but last time we went they were not serving food. There is also a restaurant on the main road about a 10 minute walk away but have never been there. The camping area is split over two fields, both really big so plenty of room to spread out and have your own little spot. Looking forward to going again soon.

Just returned from the wet Easter holiday after our first visit here. The facilities are as previously described, basic, but clean and there does seem to be some effort being put into building new blocks. The price charged reflects the facilities. The owner was friendly when we spoke but, it seems, is happy to let people get on with it without too many rules.

We were in our caravan and used both our 25m leads together to allow units with only one lead to be able to pitch near the elec boxes. The pitching was a little haphazard (i.E. A large tent pitched in a place that didn't help anyone), but the people who booked all got a hook up.

There are good pubs around - the Bull is in walking distance, serves lovely home-made pizzas and is child-friendly. The Fountain in Ashford and the Ginger Fox at Pyecombe have lovely restaurants, as does the Royal Oak.

The edge of the field did get muddy where people continually drove on the grass and did not use common sense or the service road which goes right round the edge of the large flat field. New campers - please try walking a new campsite field before you drive on - it can save you getting stuck and tearing up grass for no good reason (as we learnt years ago). We really enjoyed the peace and quiet, and will return later in the season with friends.

 A basic quiet site.

We've just returned from Easter Bank Holiday at this site. It's basically one big field with portacabins containing the loos and showers, then a shelter in the very far corner with a couple of washing up sinks (cold water only) and a small children's play area.

Although the website mentions 3 toilet blocks it's actually: In the field- one ladies portacabin with 3 loos/ sinks (no hot water), one gents portacabin and a shower portacabin (2 huge free hot showers!). In the car park - at the entrance to the site there's another portacabin with another ladies loo (with hot water) and a separate 'family room' with 2 sinks (no hot water at sinks), loo, urinal (a bit odd having a urinal & loo next to each other not in a cubical!) and a big free hot shower. Drinking water points were on each of the portacabins and another point at the entrance to the site. Although very basic and dated they look like they have been recently painted and were kept remarkably clean considering the rain and mud. A lot of effort is made keeping the facilities clean.

It rained most of the weekend and the field was very wet and muddy, particularly where vehicles drove onto the field and the well used patches near the hookup boxes. At least it made it easy to get the pegs in! It's fairly flat so later in the year, once it's had time to dry out, I'm sure it'd be fine.

Although we didn't need it, others in our group did use the electric hookup. I was disappointed that despite having emailed to book pitches and receiving a reply to say spaces had been reserved it appears the site works purely on first come first served basis and were very lucky to get the last two hookup points. There are no marked pitches as it is just a big open field. The hookup does limit where units can pitch and the spots close enough were all extremely muddy, close together and near to the roadways at the entrance. A very long lead would be needed to have a better choice of pitch.

There is no reception, ice block freezing, shop or tourist information which makes for a very quiet atmosphere as everyone is self sufficient. A house across the road sells lovely freshly laid hen and goose eggs if you get stuck for breakfast though! The owner/ manager did drive round in his truck at least once a day, though we only spoke to him as we were packing up he seemed very approachable.

It was a quiet site, everyone seemed to go to bed early not at all noisy - just the dawn chorus from the birds!

About 20minutes walk from the site is a lovely restaurant called Baloos (I think). I did feel a bit scruffy in my mud-caked camping clothes but the staff were extremely friendly and didn't seem to mind at all. However, there are no footpaths or street lights along the road so be careful and take torches! Henfield with various shops, teashops, a couple of pubs and hardware shop (also sells a few camping basics!) is a couple of miles away, a few minutes in the car, though we also to the adventurous route over the fields. Turn right out of the campsite drive then take the footpath on the left after a few hundred metres. Pretty boggy at times but a lovely walk with horses, rabbits and even deer on the way.

We also explored the Downslink cycle route. Easily reached from Henfield it's nice and not too strenuous cycle. We just did the 5 miles to Bramber to the pub for lunch and visit to the castle and on to Steyning for another pint stop before heading back, just popping into the Cat & Canary and detouring to another with a great looking play area and big garden on the way.

Overall impression is a basic, no frills campsite, but at £10 a night for two adults it's reasonable value. A shame it was so wet and muddy, but that's not really the fault of the site!
