Yet again we had a warm welcome at Gandspette! The owner/manager and his wife who man reception are very friendly. In the last year the restaurant has been extended, with a very nice additional area, giving lots more seating room.
The new toilet block is very clean, but one of the showers delivered only lukewarm water - I moved mid-shower as there was no-one else in the block! The older sanitary block has undergone a recent upgrade, with more modern shower cubicles, certainly in the ladies. There is a washroom and toilet area especially designed for very young children, with bright colours, and smaller sanitaryware. The washing up area has also been refurbished.
Pitches can become waterlogged in wet weather, and this year, following a great deal of rain in early season, we were asked to take extra care not to damage the grass. This makes sense, as we were there early in the season, and ruts in the grass at this stage take a very long time to 'heal over'. Pitches in both the older and the new area are a good size, but levellers may be required on some pitches in the newer, more open area.
The site takes Camping Cheques from April until 4th July, and again after 1st September, so for us off-peakers it provides excellent value for money.

This site is one of the better sites we have stayed on, friendly welcome. Clean with good facilities and set in a picturesque rural surroundings.
Only stayed overnight but would have been happy to stay for longer. Perhaps a bit pricey but you pay for what you get and I would be happy to recomend this site

Used this site for a one night stopover on the return trip from the South as I had been advised that the municipals in Calais can leave a bit to be desired. It is much as others have described. Well laid out with probably the largest pitches we had seen during two weeks and several other French Campsites. Toilet and shower block was clean, spacious and hot water plentiful. SIte owner friendly and we had no problem just turning up with no booking (in September).
There is a nice bar and restaurant with a takeaway. My only gripe is that it was chips with everything and my partner is vegetarian (of the sort that eats fish!) and there was nothing available except a cheese and tomato pizza). The site felt very English which is great if thats what you are looking for and I guess is to be expectedso close to Calais.
Pool looked fantastic although it was far too cold for us to actually try it.
A good site for a quick stop if you need one and from what I read in other reviews there are some interesting things to see in the vicinity.

We stopped here to break up the return journey for two nights. The wash facilities were modern and clean. We were put on short stay pitches in a field, these were not ideal as they were not level, although the children enjoyed the space to play(also excellent children play area). The on site bar and restaurant were very good. We did not use the pool because the weather was poor while we were there.

We booked this site on recommendation from a friend - we thought it was great too! Staff were very helpful and most speak some english if you don't do the lingo. Pitches were spacious, although ours was a little difficult to reverse our twin axle on to it. The shower blocks were immaculate and well cared for. Two swimming pools, although the larger one was quite cold. The smaller one was popular with most including some brits who chose to ignore the no diving/bombing rule much to the annoyance of other users. The retstaurant is nice, but book ahead as it gets full quite early. Food was good although very much "chips" with everything. Takeaway was great for pizzas etc and good value. A baker's van visited every morning at 8.30 stopping at various parts of the site. Lots of things to do nearby especially if you are into military history (Blockhaus,La coupole etc). An excellent base for first timers, the only negative point was that there were quite a few mosquitos around and we got bit. Other than that we will definitely be going again.

Only stayed here for two separate nights on our way South and on our return. A lovely site which is about half an hour away from Calais ferry-port. Good take-away on site and what looks like lovely meals in the restaurant although make sure you book a table early as we found out to our disappointment. Toilet block was clean. Looks like a new toilet block in the far field near the statics which was spotless. Pitches are a good size. Staff very helpful. Local champion supermarket approx 3 minutes drive which also has a petrol station which is handy to fill up before returning to rip off Britain! Will be booking up again for next year.

We only stayed a couple of nights to break up a journey across France and regretted doing that. The site was wonderful and warranted more time. The plots were as spacious as you could ask for. The toilet block was as clean as any I have seen anywhere and the staff could not have been more helpful. There may not have been a shop on site, but Hypermarkets within 10 minutes and a supermarket a kilometre away made up for this. The only problem for us was that the site was full of British and Dutch campers, with barely a French person in site, which is always disappointing when you want to soak up the French atmosphere. We will definitely use it again if camping in France, although hopefully for longer next time.

A few days at Gandspette at the beginning and end of our holiday is rapidly becoming a tradition with us. It is certainly worth much more than an overnight stop, with excellent facilities, as others have said. There is a Champion supermarket less than a kilometre away, just by the roundabout, but for bigger hypermarkets (Auchan and Carrefour), you need to go towards St Omer. The Saturday market in St Omer is brilliant. We also this year had a great morning out in Cassel, with a guided tour of the windmill. All in all, a great place to get into holiday mode at the start of a longer break, or to relax while you convince yourself that you really do have to go home. Highly recommended!

A great campsite, really convenient at just 45 mins from the Eurotunnel, not that you would know it as you are soon in pretty countryside. Good grassy areas for tents although there had been a lot of rain so we chose higher up on the hill. Beautiful view of the surrounding forests & hills. Shower blocks were large & very clean, covered washing up area (only 1 hot tap).
There is no shop but large supermarkets stocked with great cheese were only 10mins drive. Nothing within walking distance so the restaurant does indeed get packed: the waiting staff looked somewhat harrassed & several times had to be politely reminded that we'd ordered something. It looked like they were developing the restaurant area to have an outside terrace, which would be fantastic. There was 1 tennis court & a couple of table tennis tables.
Swimming pool was fantastic and not overly crowded but only the smaller pool was heated, the larger one was freezing (1st June). I would highly recommend both the site and the area.

We arrived a day earlier than we had booked, the site opens on the 1st April but once we had found the owner (who spoke good English, and was preparing the hook ups) he was more than happy for us to become the first visitors of the season. This area had a lot of rain in previous weeks so he asked if we could park our motorcaravan on the short roads rather than the rather soggy grass pitches, no problem, other vans that arrived over the next week did likewise.
The site is delightful, with the lower field being protected by a margin of woodland and the upper one where most of the statics are is more open.
As the other reviewer has stated there is a bar, restaurant, pool, tennis etc but none of these were open in the first week of April that we were there. In fact the site was fairly quite visitor wise, but the lovely bird song from the woods really stood out. The area is great, with plenty to do (although many things were shut on our visit) the amazing WW2 Le Blockhaus german V1/V2 rocket bunker is in the woods behind the site. Calais is about a 30min drive, St.Omer about 10mins, the WW1 / 2 wartime grave site at Longuenesse is also about 10mins. There is a Champion supermarket 5mins down the road, and a bigger Carrefour on route to St Omer. We also took the 1hr 20min drive into Brugge which makes a lovely day out, there is a free motorcaravan carpark near the main train station, by the coach park. Chateau Du Gandspette is a loveley site, and comes highly recommended by us.
