Another lovely Caravan Club site which is split over both sides of the road to the Nene Country Park. We were on the side opposite to the Warden's Office. These Facilities are really good. Very clean toilet block, with very nice showers which were always hot. Downside is that the washing up facilities are on the side of the building so you would get wet if it was raining.
Wardens are extremely friendly and cannot do enough for you. The site is an absolute credit to them.
A lot of hardstanding areas, plus many grass pitches too, which is what we had. Good play area, and there was room in front of our caravan for us to play badminton and frisbee.
Very short distance to the country park, which has excellent kids play areas and woodland walks which our kids really liked. Plus there are a number of flat cycle rides in all directions from the campsite which were very pleasant.
The site is very close to the Nene Valley Steam Railway (check first to see what days it is open) and the paths criss cross the railway via Foot level crossings.
We regularly cycled down to the Ferry Meadows station so that my kids could watch the steam trains arrive at the station during the day. Cycling into Peterborough is very easy too, on a nice route alongside the railway.
A Fish and Chip van is in the car park, and open for a couple of days a week - enormous portions, great taste and good value. Plus no washing-up !
The site was full of Motor caravans, which mostly left mid week, which we found out was because they had come for the Motor Caravan show at the Peterborough showground, just up the road.
Recommend this really nice site, and we will definitely be returning here in 2012.

Returned from 3 nights at Ferry Meadows, my first pitch on a Caravan Club site. Site is well kept, pitches tidy, well marked and flat apart from rabbit holes (there's a serious rabbit overpopulation problem throughout the country park.)
Toilet blocks kept clean and well stocked with soap and toilet roll, with plenty of toilet, shower and washbasin cubicles, which coped well with a fullish site. Blocks accessed via a code.
Entry barrier into site accessed via key card. Friendly welcome from wardens on arrival, told to pitch then return to them to let them know which pitch we were on.
Site is in a good location, only 3 miles from city centre. There is the constant background hum of traffic but you forget about it.
The country park is good with lots of pathways good for walking and cycling, a visitor centre with small shop and cafe, watersports centre etc. Lots of animals and birds to look out for and some big fish in the lakes.
Went with my 2 children (15 and 12) and my 15 year old nephew. They enjoyed the pitch and putt at the golf club next door (12 holes, £3.25 each, took about an hour).
Ice cream van turned up on 2 out of our 3 nights, which was a bonus. Fish and chip van on site opened on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Can recommend the food, portions were huge.
My dogs enjoyed walking in the park, lots of green space for them to run around and meet other dogs. I felt safe walking the dogs even at 5.30am with virtually no-one else in there.
Tuesday and Wednesday nights were good, we were pitched next door to several motor homes but some pitches were empty, Thursday night the site was fuller, our motorhome neighbours left and were replaced by not so friendly neighbours.
All in all a good site, would return if visiting the area. Best use of the country park could be made if you have bikes.

Heard about this site from a friend and decided to try it ourselves!
First impression of the site was good and noticed that the entrance was nice and welcoming. The wardens waiting outside were really friendly and directed us into the waiting area as this site gets extremely busy!
What a shame that on entering the office we were met with a warden that must have got out of bed the wrong side! When I enquired if there was anywhere on the site that would be a little quieter, maybe where no family units were pitched - I was told quite abruptly and rudely, 'You've picked the wrong site and time to visit if you want a quiet site, you should have booked somewhere else!' Not the response that I associate with a caravan club site!
We settled onto a nice hard standing pitch (which was quite quiet) on the office side as the other area is very noisy with lots of family units and children riding bikes around at all times. Spent a nice weekend wandering around the many walks inside the country park and enjoyed coffee overlooking the boating lake while watching the windsurfers on Sunday morning.
If you want a nice site with some nice easy safe walking and biking with the children then this is ideal but if you want a quiet place for the weekend then take a tip from one of the wardens and 'book somewhere else!'

We had heard this was a good site and had wanted to visit for a long time and were not disappointed with our 4 night stay during half term. An added bonus was having one of the nearest pitches on the site to the steam railway track and having the wonderful site and smell of the train passing so close by!
As usual per Caravan Club sites the toilet and wash-room facilities were of the highest standard and we never had to queue despite the site being full most of the time. Also the site was well served by conveniently placed water and waste facilities.
The site shop was well stocked. Any visitors must try the chip van - the chips were the best we have ever tasted!

A group of us in 3 caravans met here for a few days break, we were lucky to get pitches near to each other as this is a very large site. The site is in 2 halves either side of the road into Nene Park. We stayed in the reception side of the road which is all hard standing pitches.
The site is well laid out into lanes separated by trees with probably about 20 caravans in each section. The facilities are excellent as you would expect from CC.
There is a Beefeater pub 5 minutes walk away, and there is Orton Hall Hotel about 5 minutes drive away (towards Peterborough)which lets dogs in the bar. We walked into Peterborough along the railway line and river which is about 3 miles.
Peterborough is a nice city with Cathedral and large shopping centres. We will be going here again.

There was a line of caravans waiting to get onto the site when we arrived, the wardens did an excellent job to get us booked in and onto a pitch.
This site is far bigger and busier than we are used to, however the site is split into two and if you go onto the reception side I am sure it would be a lot quieter. We went near to the large play area which had loads of children on bikes in the early evening so it was quite noisy.
The site was full during our stay but the toilet and shower facilities were kept very clean thanks to the hard work of the wardens. The site is excellent for cycling and walking, situated next to a large country park.
We hardly used the car when we were there instead we cycled to Peterborough City centre and the cathedral. The Nene Valley railway runs past the site which is also worth a visit, lots of wildlife on the site too!

Spent August Bank Holiday weekend at Ferry Meadows. Only 30 minutes from home so know Peterborough well. Reason for staying here was the Beer Festival in the city - well recommended, second largest in the country, in 33rd year.
Although that was our main purpose we did so much more because of the good location of the site: explored the adjacent Nene Park, cycled, went on tour of Cathedral Tower (you have to book in advance), went on steam railway (half price with your CC site receipt - you don't have to have a rover ticket but can do ordinary single or return journies), played a round of golf at Orton Meadows, ate at the Beefeater Inn The Granary. So much to do we are likely to stay there again
Site dealt with Bank Holiday arrivals in a very efficient but friendly manner. Site extremely well maintained. Hardstandings largely on west side which attracts fewer children than the mainly grassed east side. Fish and chips on Friday night good. Able to stay on after 12 noon on Bank Holiday Monday
Well worth a visit whether you live near or far

Myself my wife and 2 year old daughter went to this site last weekend for our first time, upon arriving at the gates we were greeted by two caravan club workers, there first words were ' there is a strict 5mph speed limit on this site' and proceeded to walk away! and a good afternoon to you I thought.
Take nothing away from this site, it's great we decided to go on the grass side as we were being joined by two other units, that did manage to pitch near by to us. As I am sure you are aware you can't save pitches on club sites.
Both sides of the site, grass and hard standing are well maintained and shower block very clean.
Steam railway just down the lane and wide open fields in the other direction, lots of cycle paths and good for flat walking with or without a dog.
Will be returning.

Really nice site in nice settings, if you want peace ask for the west wing of the site, west is more tranquil with mainly hard standing pitches, east side has a lot more grass over the road & can be a bit like a haven holiday camp as there was masses of kids flying around on bikes from 0700-2200
Site is well kept and the toilet blocks up to the usual CC Standards which is great because this is a big site & I expected the shower blocks to be destroyed. Nene park next door is a great for walks, boat trips, train rides & if like me & my lad like canoes we hired 1 each for an hour for only £7,50,great value, liked it so much went back next day. Fishing was not very good on the canal & you get charged £5,50 a day payable to the water bailiff who rides up and down on his bike all day
Main shops not too far away, nice little Chinese sign posted as local shops outside the camp, all in very nice site, lots of wildlife on site to watch, staff very pleasant,

We enjoyed our first visit to ferry meadows in May, we booked to return in July and had another fabulous stay at Ferry Meadows. We like to go for the grass pitches behind the play area, and although further from the toilet block, they are fantastic for families. My youngest learnt to ride his bike and can't wait to go back. The country park is lovely and there's enough to do without having to go far off site. Even the Ice cream van is good value for money!
