We stayed in a sheiling for seven days the last week in June. We found the sheilings to be clean , roomy and comfortable. The sheiling we booked was en suite, in the kitchen it had a 2 rings and a grill cooker ,they would benefit if they had a fridge although there is a freezer in the common room for ice packs. Staff were helpful and friendly. Site facilities excellent. Good base to explore Mull. We stayed on this site 4 years ago in a tent but staying in the sheiling is recommended as there is no rush to take your tent down when getting the ferry. Staying in a sheiling is camping for softies! We will be visiting again soon.

The site is very handy for the Calmac ferry port which is literally a 100yards away. Excellent after a lengthy drive.
The site itself is immaculate, toilet blocks very clean and warm. The information desk was also extremely friendly no matter what the query - a great bunch! Great adventure playground for the nippers as well.
The pitches were on astroturf surrounded by gravel - this wasn't ideal for pitching so take a strong set of pegs and a heavy hammer. I was at it a long time however it was all worth it later in the week as the heavens opened up for 3 days and the drainage was excellent.
I think if I went back I would go for the upper field which had the best of the views - you can't have electric hook-ups but I'd trade it for the stunning coastal views.
When it rained we went to the Mull hotel swimming pool(we have a 1yr old and a 4 year old), on the craignure mini steam train and visited Torosay castle and then Duart castle - all stunning.
Tobermory is only 20 minutes by car and is a beautiful coastal fishing village. If you go be sure to visit the Mull Cheddar farm which is really good for kids to see all the animals etc.
If you like your shellfish - 4 miles down the coast is a mussel farm which sells them at £1 a kilo - fantastic campsite food.
Some other key destinations are Iona and Calgary which has an amazing beach. Wildlife watching is high on the agenda as well - whales, deer, eagles, hawks - you name it!
Mull is great if you get the weather and still great if it rains - we will definitely go back and stay at Sheilings!

We were at The Shielings in the first week of June. First of all, the campsite is literally a couple of minutes from the ferry port and this was very welcome after a long long drive to get the ferry at Oban. However, it doesn't mean lots and lots of noise so please do not be put off by this. Because if you are you will miss a lovely campsite. We were in the top field and had a brilliant view across the Sound of Mull. Pitch 64 meant parking very close to the pitch and it was big enough for all three of our tents. Be slightly warned though - pitches have astroturf and putting tent pegs through astroturf is not that easy. Very well looked after site, with a common room filled with TV, and settees and a games room filled with pool and table tennis if it rains. Facilities were good, hot water; well kept shower block, easy access to washing up facilities. Although there is no beach near by, there is plenty to do in Mull - thoroughly recommend the trip to Iona (one of the best beaches ever) and the ride in the small steam train to Torosay Castle. Craignure Inn does good food but does get busy in the evenings. There is a ban on excessive noise from 10:30pm to 7:30am and even the midges were not too bad at this site. Any downsides? Not really, but do book a place on the ferry both ways, especially if you want the 4pm one. Would very happily go back.

This was a very good site right next to the ferry terminal at Craignure which suited us as we had driven all afternoon then got the ferry from Oban, so it was only minutes from the ferry.
The site was spacious and on different levels allowing good views. We had a large awning for our VW but the pitch was not long enough and it meant pegging into some hard ground. Some of the other pitches had even smaller grass areas adjacent to them so best to ask for sufficient space if you need it. Once we had the awning up and were hooked up, we couldn't have asked for a better spot as the views were excellent.
The staff were friendly and left you alone. We checked out later on the last day due to the weather and they didn't bother us at all.
This site gives great access to exploring Mull which we did each day. The mini train line is very near the site and Craignure has a nice cosy local pub with a good atmosphere. There is also a well stocked Spar shop near to the ferry terminal.
The facilities on site were good. The toilets were clean and the showers were warm. The building was actually quite warm too which helps after a shower.

We arrived to find we had been allocated a pitch right at the bottom of the site overlooking the port - wonderful to sit and while away the hours watching the ferry dock. The whole site was so well kept even by October - showers and toilets cleaned twice a day.
We stayed for Rally week - the site was quiet as first but by Saturday very busy. The way everyone was spaced out certainly didn't make you feel at all hemmed in. But if you are going in October check out the Rally dates - during the weekend people were coming and going from the site until 5am - not a problem for nearly everyone there but if you weren't aware of the rally and like peace and quiet you could be disappointed.
Craignure Inn is great for food and drink. Spar in Craignure sells everything you could ever need - but its very expensive. Keep if for essentials and shop on the mainland before you come over.
We will be back next year - its a great site and the island itself is so lovely its really worth visiting.

This campsite is absolutely fantastic. We were on the upper field which has wonderful views across to the mainland. The pitches were covered in astroturf which meant that even after 4 days of continuous rain, the pitch was not waterlogged or muddy.
The facilities were spotlessly clean and there was plenty of hot water. There was a sofa area, a large table with chairs, a microwave and freezer (for freezer blocks) and a TV for use by campers all included in the fee.
Craignure is a central place to explore Mull from and is close to the ferry. The people on the site were very friendly and helpful. I will definitely be going back!

We've just returned from 4 nights on Mull staying at this site and I have to say we thought the site (and indeed the island) were fantastic. Our motorhome was put in a small hardstanding section at the lower end of the site near reception and overlooking the Craignure port, and what a fantastic view it was to wake up to every morning. When we were there we were accompanied in our part of the site by 4 or 5 other motorhomes / camper vans, with not a single caravan gracing the site for the entire stay - first time we've ever seen that. The facilities on the site were excellent, showers/loos spotless and well maintained (NB - the other reviews mention the shieling facilities - there is also a 'full' (i.E. Brick!) toilet / shower block available to everyone on the site).
As others have said the site has just 1 small swing in terms of playground, however the village's own excellent and very new playground is just adjacent to the site reception, and having pushed our 2 little 'uns for countless hours on the swings, I have to say that views to occupy one's mind whilst repeatedly pushing kids on a swing really don't get much better than this!
Also worth noting is that the site backs onto Mull's narrow gauge railway, whose 15 min journey takes you to the nearby Torosay Castle & Gardens. Both are worth doing and the adventure playground and woods to explore at the castle kept our pair entertained, as of course did the steam train.
As to Mull itself, it is absolutely lovely. The people are super-friendly, including actually all of the fellow visitors we met - it seems that those who've made the effort to get out to Mull are the kinds of people you really want to bump into on holiday, which can't be said for some of the other sites on the mainland we've stayed at. The landscape and surroundings are absolutely stunning, and the roads, yes, well the Mull description of an A-road is somewhat different to that which I'm used to! However our 7m long van had no problem navigating them as there's always a passing place every 150m or so. We didn't venture onto anything less that an 'A' road, however our neighbour told us he'd managed fine on them, albeit at a slow speed.
In summary, we'd absolutely recommend a visit to Mull, and most definitely would recommend staying at this site. Craignure is well located for trips to Iona (beautiful, and the drive there from Craignure probably the most enjoyable hour of driving I've ever done), Tobermory (for the required visit to 'Balamory' for the kids - note - do this in a morning and work your way round to the island's best beaches in Calgary on the afternoon) etc, and the campsite is perfect for the ferry to/from Oban. Thoroughly recommended - we'll be back!

We were situated in the middle of the site on a raised area at the base of the hill the astro turf pitch was ideal. The main facilities near reception were good and clean. The washing up facilities were also kept clean, although the laundry facility cost a lot to dry the clothes! Dogs were ment to be on a lead a number were not and nothing was done about it the same as to keeping the noise down after 10.30pm - we have a child who had to put up with the campers next to us watching Big brother rather loudly.
As a family we thought the site was fantastic, one of the best we have stayed on, the Craignure Inn not only was great for food but also did takeaways. We would definitely stay there again although this year we did suffer 4 days of constant rain the astro turf meant the tent was not sitting in a puddle of water - we still enjoyed the stay.

This was our first family camping trip and the kids loved it. It's easy to find - you'll see it from the ferry. The cars are only allowed when arriving or departing so it was really safe. The views are fantastic, I overheard one chap saying if a certain brewer made campsite views then this would be the one! . There's a single swing on site for kids and a proper little playground adjacent to the site. It's a good location for going up to Tobermory or along to Iona. The roads on Mull are interesting! Single track with passing places, of varying states of repair, but this just added to the charm. Buses are available! I can recommend the Craignure Inn for food, a lovely old inn, there's also a Spar, a craft shop, tourist info. A petrol station and a fab wee charity shop. I agree with other reviewers - although very clean, the marquee/sheiling loos and showers are very wibbly-wobbly. None of the locks worked properly except one and so I had to accompany my daughter every time. The showers were rather feeble in construction and power of water flow. However overall I hope to return again, soon.
