Enjoyed our 5 night stay. Very handy being next to ferry terminal, and site just as other posts. Very clean showers/toilets, very friendly staff.
Mull beautiful- managed to see some golden and white tailed eagles.
My only criticism is around the astroturf pitches. I had read previous posts regarding the size of the pitches- so emailed the site to make sure they were large enough to accommodate our tent. I had a very prompt reply assuring me they could fit our tent. So I was dismayed on arrival to be offered a choice of 4 astroturf pitches-none of which was large enough. The warden just saying to pitch on the astroturf and it doesn't matter if the tent overspills onto the surrounding ground. This was hard-standing gravel- which is not good for a SIG- so I was not too pleased with this-particularly as I has specifically asked this very question. We just had to try to keep off the parts that were on the gravel-which wasn't easy. S have to mark down re service for this reason. Luckily we did not get a hole in our SIG, but footprint marked badly.
Apart from this, site was nice and I would recommend- although check your tent size carefully.

First saw this site from the ferry on an earlier trip to Mull. Thought it looked nice, so booked for a 7 day stay in July. On arrival, the staff were very pleasant, helpful and worked very hard to maintain the high standards throughout the site. We were also blessed with great weather so all in all had a wonderful week. We toured the island by car and also used the bus service (using our bus passes) The scenery on Mull is spectacular. Had a trip to Iona - a 'must do' if visiting Mull. Also visited the Tobermory Highland Games - great afternoon out. Bought the best mussels ever from Inver Lussa Mussel farm (only £1 per kilo) delicious! Sadly, didn't manage to see any Sea Eagles this time - oh well, maybe next time. Would certainly return to Mull and to The Sheiling camp site. Great place for young and old alike.

Visited this site twice in our week on Mull.
The site itself is very good. There are great views over the bay, and up to Ben Nevis. It has some of the best facilities we've found. The toilets and showers are immaculate. There's washing & drying for clothes, recycling points and freezers for ice blocks etc. Tent pitches are on astroturf which is just great when it rains, also helps to keep in a bit more warmth.
We chose this site because of its proximity to the ferry, and its a good base for exploring the northern end of the island. Craignure itself is rather basic, with a pub serving decent food, a great wee coffee shop and a very pricey Spar. (I highly recommend the coffee shop for a breakfast roll and coffee).
I have only one criticism of this site - the famous midges. They were pretty horrendous, and we came prepared for them! The site has a lot of pitches near trees and other leafy foliage. Suggest you ask for one on the higher, open ground (which we did upon our second visit), to avoid the clouds of the little blighters!
Overall, a good experience here and would certainly visit again.

We have just come back from Shielings camp site and have to say it is the best camp site we have stayed on. To start with the camp is close to the ferry terminal so there isn't a long drive to get to the camp (which after travelling from Staffordshire all day was a blessing).
The site is so well laid out with astro turf pitches which are a very good idea. The staff are friendly and helpful and always ready for a chat or a joke about our attire (mainly to keep out the midgies).
The main shower and toilet block were more than adequate. We didn’t have to wait to have showers at all, and the hot water was free and plentiful. They were kept very clean with people cleaning up after them to keep them as you would expect to find them yourself. There are also family Shieling bathrooms and toilets. We had a look around the actual Shielings and they seemed very intriguing. The communal one had just had the fire lit inside and was very cosy.
There were wonderful views from all around the site and the sunsets were spectacular. We sat on the edge of the sea with a bottle of wine just watching it sink. It was so peaceful. We even saw otters just a very short walk along the sea front from the site and Oyster Catchers with their chicks. And the bunny rabbits running around the site are really cute.
The Craignure Inn is a five minute walk from the site and the food is very nice and not too expensive and is very popular, though we never had to wait for a table. The Spar shop was very expensive mind so try and stock up in the Tesco in Oban before coming over.
The only downside was the wee midges. But that was our own fault by insisting on sitting by the sea watching sunsets and leaving tent doors open to take in the views.
This was a perfect holiday – just away from it all and total peace, quiet and tranquillity. Would definitely recommend this site and the Isle of Mull to anyone looking for the same.

We had a fantastic experience at this campsite and would definitely use it again.
We arrived needing more gas for our camper and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. They also have lots of information about wildlife tours etc. Oh and a menu for the pub across the road which serves excellent bar meals.
The site is very clean and tidy as were the toilet and shower block. The block was also warm despite it being freezing outside!
The view from the site is fantastic, the pitches are spacious and there are even tent pitches on Astro Turf. We did need the full length of cable out for our hook up for the first time ever although we were told that if it wasn't long enough they could lend us an extension.
The site is very convenient as a base from which to visit all areas of Mull if you didn't want to tour and on top of all this there is a resident Otter!

Fourth visit to this outstanding site. Spectacular location, excellent helpful and friendly staff.
Although facilities are quite basic, this adds to the appeal.
Otter seen daily and staff ensure that those interested are told when it is in the bay.
In fact can, t praise staff enough, we were made to feel very welcome. Highly recommended site for families and couples.
Spotlessly clean, we will be going again

Second time on the Shieling , with our small old but fab caravan. We love the site, immaculate, clean, well serviced pitches with the best view ever from pitch 15 and 16. Staff are relaxed, unobtrusive, helpful and supportive ( we go for the tour of mull rally and I am inevitable home alone. The pub in Craignure serves local great food with dogs welcome ( they remembered the dogs from 2011) and again being alone I was always made welcome and felt like a local. Anyone who cant see the beauty in the Shieling and the locals and local facilities don't appreciate what it present. On the Sat and Sun we where there I walked to both the local bistro and coffee shop and had breakfast waiting for the papers to be delivered on the ' boat' we will return again and again.

A beautiful site with stunning scenery and very friendly staff. We were allowed to pitch our caravan facing the loch and what a view we had. We stayed 7 nights here and not only is it a five minute drive from the ferry terminal but an ideal base for exploring Mull.
The toilet and shower block was always clean and there was a bucket and mop to clean down after you use.
We watched otters on the rocks just below the caravan whilst others had seen dolphins there the previous week.
We went to Mull to see the Golden and White Tailed Eagles and wasn't disappointed.
We had a meal in the Craignure Inn one evening and would recommend.
We found the local shop very expensive.
We would definitely return.

This is a fantastic campsite. We pitched our tent on the upper field and had lovely views of the mountains and sea. The pitches are flat and astro-turfed so that even in heavy rain, the pitches do not get muddy. The showers and toilets are clean and there are plenty for the campsite. There is also a campers lounge with washing up facilities, a freezer for freezer blocks, plus sofas, TV and log burner.
Craignure is a good base for exploring Mull, and the pub in village is welcoming with good beer and food.
This campsite is good value for money with excellent facilities and great location. I will be returning.

What a fantastic site and location, which was topped off by some fantastic weather which provided some of the best sunsets that we have ever seen. I read a previous review criticising the scenery. I'm sorry, but you have to be joking. One word describes Mull - stunning!
We were welcomed on arrival and directed to our pitch with the information that if our hook-up was not long enough then an extension was readily available. Borrowed without deposit, which just set the tone for the fantastic staff. You often saw them around, always with a smile and hello.
The hooked up tent pitches are on astroturf, and are not massive, but are adequate. The toilet/ shower areas are clean and warm, and we were also informed to make use of the disabled sheiling which had sink, toilet and a great shower in it. We tended to use this all the time due to the proximity to our tent. The sheilings themselves can only be described as buildings framed from scaffold poles covered in white heavy duty plastic. These are a very simple but fantastic idea. Have a look at the clothes drying sheilings on their site. There are also plenty of recycle bins on site.
The site itself could not be closer for the ferry, which was not a problem at all. Craignure is also central to explore the island, but be prepared for single track roads, which I have to say were in much better condition that those where we live.
The staff in the information centre in Craignure were great, directing us to sites to see otter and Eagles. We went from Iona at one end to Tobermory at the other and many places in between, with stunning scenery at every turn. They also post sightings of wildlife, and although we missed seeing sea eagles, we did see sea otter, dolphins, golden eagles, deer and much more. I feel like a big kid again writing this review.
Enjoy!
We are already planning a longer trip again next year. See you there.
