Excellent site. Good base for exploring Mull. Staff very friendly and informative. Facilities clean, hardstanding and electric. Dog walks from site. Two minute drive ( or 10 minute walk) from ferry terminal at Craignure.
Site fairly sheltered with lovely sea views. Otters seen regularly.
Good shop in village, petrol available. Excellent information centre (with many gifts!) Craignure Inn 5 minutes walk away - food served daily but can't comment on quality (didn't try it)

Nicely set out site with lovely views. Tent pitches were on astro-turf which looked great.
The toilets and showers could have been cleaner and the showers were claustrophobic. We were told that there was no problem with us using the disabled shower which was very roomy but extremely draughty being housed in a tarpaulin tent-like structure.
During our stay of a few days I saw someone (cleaner?) visit the toilet/shower block each day but the only evidence of such a visit was that the bins were emptied, the floor wasn't even mopped over.
The Craignure Inn across the road is very handy and dog-friendly. There is a Spar shop, a charity shop and Cal-Mac/Tourist Information Centre all within a short walk.
This site is in a good location for touring Mull, but somewhat overpriced (£24. 50pn/£22. 50pn when booking two nights). Nice amenities but clean up the act.

The top field at Shielings must have the best aspect of any campsite in Britain, with stunning views across the sea to mainland Scotland, even as far as Ben Nevis on a clear day. We were fortunate enough to see a pair of sea eagles circling over the bay.
The pitches are on a gravel bed covered with astro turf- somewhat unusual but seems to provide very effective drainage. The (very helpful) warden lent us a suitable hammer to get our pegs into the pitch.
The site is located a few hundred yards from the ferry terminal with a shop, a pub and a restaurant within easy walking distance. Unfortunately the restaurant doesn't do evening meals. We tried the Craignure Inn but received a less than warm welcome which was surprising as other people have reported favourably about this establishment.
We then walked a mile up the road to the Isle of Mull Hotel and were treated to good food and hospitality in the bar there. We subsequently dined there on our remaining three nights on the island, on our walk back to the campsite on the last night we were treated to the surreal site of two red deer stags walking towards us down the main street!
The facilities at the site are comprehensive, very well kept and at the same time, quaint! The 'Shielings' are in fact the plethora of vinyl 'buildings'.
These include the toilet/ shower blocks on the top field, a communal room (with television, microwave, freezer for ice packs, washing up facilities and a couple of sofas), a games room with table tennis, pool table etc.
There is a good sized family bathroom in one of the Shielings on the lower part of the campsite. There is even a vinyl telephone box just behind reception! The remaining shielings are rented out as self catering accomodation.
I only have one criticism of the site- the showers. These are the dreaded push button type, however the biggest problem for me is the lack of temperature control. While the high temperature was welcomed by some members of our party, it's an issue for me as I have a skin problem and found the hot water very uncomfortable.
A narrow gauge railway runs from a station around a hundred yards from Shielings. This railway runs to Torosay Castle which is currently not open as it's for sale. The gardens are open to the public however and are still very well maintained and worth a look around. The train journey takes around twenty minutes each way.
There are quite a few local wildlife guides around who use 4x4's or minibuses for day long tours. We've done two of these tours now, both were excellent, the guides using local knowledge to provide superb views of sea eagles, golden eagles, otters, red deer etc.
I can highly recommend this site. The location and views alone are a good enough reason to stay there. The excellent facilities and helpful and pleasant staff are the icing on the cake.

What a great campsite this is. The facilities’ are good and the pitches are reasonable but the views are out of this world.
There are many attractions on the Island and a trip to Tobermory should not be missed. It is the quaintest of villages I have visited with all the houses painted different colour and there is a great Fish and Chip Shop on the harbour. Whilst I was on the harbour I saw my first ever wild otter frolicking in the seaweed not twenty yards from where we were stood, it was a sight I will never forget.
There are many excellent walks from the campsite. Not far from the site is a miniature railway station which takes you to Torosay Castle and gardens, you can walk back to the campsite from there with no difficulty.
We found the whole experience wonderful. The ferry wasn’t too expensive and the campsite prices were reasonable.
I recommend this site to any of my fellow travellers.

This site is next to the ferry port, convenient for late night or early morning ferries, however, it is not very scenic here unlike other parts of the island.
The facilities are clean, there is a brick building and also a shieling as a toilet block. The white tarpaulin these are constructed from does seem to be everywhere!
The pitches are numbered and marked out, we found these too close together with not much outside space when pitched, overall it seemed to be very commercialised. We also found it to be quite expensive at £21.50 a night.
There didn’t seem to be many walks from the campsite for dogs, the track along the shore being boggy and a bit rocky.
The midges were out in force, possibly the recent wet weather didn’t help or the sheltered location of the site.
Customer service was good upon arrival, but upon departure when only wanting to return a hook up extension lead this was not as good, a long wait for a simple request to have our £10 deposit back!
The pitch is available until midday, upon packing up in the morning (around 10am) the next guest booked on the pitch arrived and proceeded to try to pitch next to us, presumably having been advised to do so by the staff!
The Craignure Inn was nice, food good and large portions. Dogs are allowed inside which was greatly appreciated due to the rain.
A well maintained and nice site if you like commercialised, regimented sites, however not our cup of tea and not one we will be returning too.

We visited the site towards the end of the season, it was quiet for much of the time and some facilities had been closed - the family bathroom for example. We were therefore disappointed to pay high season prices and suspect this was because the Mull rally was staged during our stay.
It is a lovely site and the facilities that were open were adequate. The pitch was on carpet / astroturf which looks good but we had some problems pegging down our awning. Though well set out I suspect when it is busy that there is little room between pitches.
The park at the entrance is great for the kids and when we were there the miniature railway ran from the site to Torosay Castle. The pub in Craignure is nice and the food was good.
Torosay castle grounds are well worth a visit as is Duart castle.
We used the site as a base for visiting Mull and there is much to do and see on the Island. We would recommend Iona and Staffa in particular and there are some great walks - Ardmore point, Airde Beinn, Carsaig for example.
Ballomory is worth a visit of course and if you don't fancy the drive then a bus service runs from Craignure.
Mull is well worth a visit but I am not sure I would recommend the shielings purely because we paid over the odds considering the time of year and lack of some facilities.

The location is second to none. The campsite pitch number is allocated to you so if you take your motorhome away for the day your pitch will not be used by any other visitor. The toilet and shower facilities were very clean and very warm.
The craignure inn is all but 5 minutes away serving excellent food throughout the day with a good selection of beers as well. Hookups were well located and the site part hardstanding. The hosts were very friendly and helpful with adequate literature as to what to visit on the island.

Toilets and showers well maintained, tv common room with stove very warming. Shielings what a simple but effective things they are.A want one for my back garden.
Pub 5/ 10 min walk, charity shop opposite ferry terminal if you have any space when you have packed your gear get a bag fill it with stuff that you don't use, this is what charity shops used to be like.

This might not strictly speaking be a 'camping' review, as the 'shielings' are advertised as hostel accommodation.
Anyway, I chose to stay in one of these constructions not fancying another night in my damp tent ('shieling' is a bit of an odd naming choice--these were actually stone shepherds' huts of past centuries, those shepherds not being known for their use of polyurethane marquees).
The advertised price seems quite reasonable for a hostel bed--£12.50pppn--however, be aware that this only covers shelter, lighting, a fold-out bed and a Calor gas stove. Need cooking utensils &/or bedding? Then it'll be £3 for each. £18.50 is towards the high end of what I paid for a 'proper' hostel--ones with solid walls, a fully-equipped kitchen (including previous hostellers' food leavings, by which the canny guest can cut costs) and bedding. All unlike this one. Also, traditional hostels tend to have facilities you can get to without having to go out in the open (not insignificant when you're in Scotland!) and walls you don't have to put up yourself (each shieling is supposed to have an inner partition when all 4 beds aren't being occupied by the same party, but this was down in the one I was allocated).
Having brought my own equipment and kept the gas lit most of the time (like a damp tent, the shieling felt a bit clammy inside--right down to the matches thoughtfully supplied being too damp to use), I got reasonable value out of my 'hostel' fee. One upside was that there seemed to be few fellow guests in the shielings (despite most accommodation nearby apparently being full that night), so unlike most of my 9 nights in 'proper' hostels last August I got some space to myself. On that basis, it's probably not too bad a bargain for non-campers. Just beware of your silhouette 'entertaining' people outside the shieling if you undress with the light on.

We stayed for two nights. Pretty expensive to stay at. For the money the facilities were poor there were only two shower cubicles in the gents toilets. The washing machines and dryers out of the ark and were expensive to run with poor results.
It's amazing the uses for the white canvas which is used everywhere from sign boards, drying tent, seats etc We had a great meal at the Craignure Inn which is only 5 minutes walk from the site. The play park tidy with plenty for the kids.
