We had a lovely weekend at this C&CC site. The site is tree lined, lots of dividing hedges between pitches, the site feels much smaller than it is. The facilities were always spotlessy clean and we never had to wait.
There is a dog walk field, but unfortunately dogs still have to stay on leads. Also a field for children's ball games etc, away from the pitches.
The first night we had a late evening meal at the 3 Magpies, sat outside with our dog as it was very busy inside, nice meal.
The next day we walked to Devizes and back along the canal tow path, lovely flat walk of around 8 miles, we didn't enjoy Devizes itself much, no tea rooms or cafes to talk off, so we had our lunch at a tow path cafe on the way back, which was very nice. That evening we walked along the canal the other way to the Barge Inn, about 1.5 miles each way, very nice meal sat outside watching barges going by and managed to get back to site before it got too dark!
We will definitely be returning to this site.

We stayed on this site for 4 days and wished we had booked for longer. This is a fantastic site and a real credit to the club who own it. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the sites are well laid out and level, the facilities are spotless and the location is perfect, being by the side of the Kennett & Avon canal. The only downside is that this site is almost permanently full making booking difficult. We will definitely return but will not recommend it to others as we want to be able to get a booking again next time. Congratulations to the C & CC and their excellent staff.

Can't recommend this site enough! we joined the Camping and Caravanning Club in order to stay at this site and benefit from the family deal (2 adults 4 children) and we were not disappointed. We requested a pitch near the park for the kids which we got which made for a more relaxed enjoyable holiday. Big spacious pitches, site very well maintained and very quiet at night. We did have a big weeping willow tree right at the back of us which swept the roof of the caravan all week! and interfered with the tv reception (freeview!) couldn't pull van forward as already erected awning! So watch for overhanging trees before you pitch! LOL! The site was very well kept as soon as someone left the grass around the empty pitch was mowed it was excellently maintained, the toilets and showers were spotless helped by the fact that people are encouraged to mop the shower cubicle after they have done ready for the next person (wish this was standard practice at all sites!) The wardens were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely go back again if in the area! My only moan would be the play area could do with being a little bigger as only 2 swings and climbing frame/slide which soon gets busy, especially when our 4 arrived! Kids made loads of friends and gave it the thumbs up though!

Visited this site for a long weekend and thought it fantastic. Site flat as a pancake and ground soft enough for pegs to sink straight in.
The toilet/shower block were the usual standard that you would expect from the Camping and Caravan Club. Only gripe, from the male point of view, was that there were only 4 showers/sit down loos which for a 90 unit site were overstretched at peak times.
Recommend the walk along the canal to Devizes and the Town Trail that can be picked up from the visitor information centre. Course fishermen definitely want to take their rods as good size carp seemed to being caught all weekend from the canal. Also visited Dyrham Park near Chippenham which is a NT property that featured in the film 'Remains of the Day'.Recommended.
Three Magpies pub next door good for a drink but food was so so. Wife and I both had steak and it was as tough as boot leather.Had a drink one night at the Barge pub along the towpath which was nice but packed.Had a gastro pub feel to it. If you come back after dark take a torch as you wont see your hand in front of you face if you don't!
Overall site is well worth a visit and highly recommended.

We stayed here for a week in our caravan, the site is in a nice location next to the canal, there are two pubs in walking distance one is right next to the site, the site is nicely laid out and peacful, toilets and showers are modern and clean, and the site staff are very friendly and helpful.
The site is well situated for trips to Longleat,Bath, Stone Hendge etc. All in all a nice site and we would definitely return

We stayed here in the early part of August. What a fantastic site, I had read the previous reviews before booking, and was not disappointed when we finally arrived after a 5 hour journey.
We were given a choice of 3 different pitches to put our tent on as it is a Nebraska XL with ext, so a fairly big tent, they accomodated this no problem what so ever. The hedging on site gives excellent shelter and also provided you with extra privacy if you wanted it. The site was full but you would have never known it, there was loads of room for everyone. The facilities were also excellent, never had to wait for a shower, however I am up early. Hair dryer takes 20p which was fine. They are cleaned between certain times, so you have to use Family bathroom.
There is a small play area surrounded by hedging, for the younger children, nothing much for teenagers here thou.
When we visited the weather was excellent, so had to use the site's freezy packs, £1 deposit, 50p to hire. I found it unfortunate that they didn't have the facility to freeze your own, as I took rather large ones that would easily kept frozen for the day, whereas the ones from the site were defrosted within 4 hours due to the warm weather, but we managed. Just something to remember if not on electric hookup.
The site is located next to the Avon & Kennett Canal, ( turn right out of the site entrance), fantastic walk along there on an evening, beautiful barges, and really friendly people.
There are some local pubs in the area. The closest is Three Magpies just at the top of the lane. It serves a general range of 'pub grub', it was ok. The Barge Inn is a very nice pub, serving excellent cuisine, its more expensive but provides good food.
If you need to go food shopping( as we had no room left in the car for such things!) Devizes has a Tesco Express and a Sainsbury, so are able to get all you need from there.
To sum up, this site is one of the best we have ever been to, and we would definitely recommend it,and we will be returning.

Wow, what a superb site! My husband and I with our 2 boys booked for 4 nights and having read previous reviews thought it sounded great. We were a bit sceptical as all the electric hookup pitches had been booked, but ice blocks were available to hire for 50p each (+£1 deposit) and it was absolutely no problem not having electricity!
Site was spotless, staff very friendly and helpful and we were able to chose our spot.
Play area was quite small for the children, but the ball field was plenty big enough for the boys to play football in.
Site was very quiet at night, even for August. The hedges around the site, cordoning off sections make it more private for your area.
We never had to queue for a shower or the loo, and they were ample for the size of the site, just remember it's closed between 11am-12.30pm for cleaning!
Local pub just a couple of minutes walk away (Three Magpies) serving good food and drinks, very friendly and catered for the children, having their own play area in the beer garden.
Canal also very close and turning left you are able to walk to Devizes (approx 4 miles), which we did, very beautiful and peaceful.
Longleat is about 30-40 mins drive away, Bath about 30 mins drive (very busy, but we found a reasonably priced long stay car park off Charlotte Street). Stonehenge was easily reached in about 40 mins. Cheddar Gorge slightly further afield, depending on which route you pick 45 mins-1 hour away. All worthwhile days out whilst staying at this site.
Weather was fantastic for our stay and as we enjoyed the site, we decided to stay for an extra 2 nights, enabling us to visit Cheddar and Bath too!
Food shopping wasn't a problem either as Devizes and Melksham both have Sainsbury's and Trowbridge has a Tesco. The shop on site stocks the essentials like bread, milk, eggs, soft drinks, crisps etc.
Would definitely like to visit again and highly recommend a visit here, well done all who manage the site - it's excellent.

Stayed a week on this site and was wonderfully clean and well maintained. Although it rained on and off it drained really well. Area was lovely with a 4 mile walk from devizes along the canal back to the site well worth it. We ate at the pub next to the site on the first night and did not enjoy the meal at all. £5.25 for a starter of 1 slice of toast with a couple of garlic mushrooms on top. The main courses were average and my wife left hers. We overheard someone on the site complaining about the food as well, so it was not just us.
Loved the area and would go back again.

We have just returned from a week's stay at this site and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is definitely a site to relax on right next to the Avon and Kennet Canal, with excellent wash blocks (my husband did feel that the mens block would be better if it had more showers and less sinks in cubicles as he did have to wait every morning for a shower when the cubicles were empty)
The only criticism we have is that there were no recycling facilities whatsoever!
We ate at both the 3 magpies (at the entrance) and the Barge Inn (20 min walk along the canal) and would highly recommend the Barge Inn which we returned to. The food was absolutely delicious and well worth the money and walk!

This was the first time we had stayed in this area and it will not be the last. This is an excellent site and the staff were helpful and friendly. Very good facilities which were kept spotless. Only 1 minor complaint, it could have done with another shower and toilet cubicle, as it was kept very busy when we were there.
TV reception was good via an aerial. Just outside the site entrance is the Three Magpies Inn which also has it's own small site with hookups. The bus stop into Devizes is about 50 yds from the pub on the opposite side of the road. The bus runs about every hour.
If you come out of the site and turn right for about 20 yds you come to the canal. If you go right along the canal for about 20 minutes you come to the Barge Inn, were you can sit outside and watch the boats go by while sampling the local ale.
If you went in the opposite direction along the canal you will come to Devizes, but this is a good stretch of the legs.
Devizes has a market on Thursdays.
