This was our first visit to a C&CC site and we couldn't have been more impressed. Our welcome was very warm, the site facilities were spotless and although the site was nearly full, there seemed to be enough showers/loos etc for everyone. There was a nice looking playground and the site office stocked essentials. You could even order papers. This is a lovely spot by the canal with decent pubs within walking distance. Would recommend a visit to the Visitors Centre at Wadworth Brewery in Devizes. Really interesting and you can also visit the Shire Horses in their stables certain afternoons. They still deliver some beer locally on drays using the Shires. Fantastic! We will definitely be back. Had a great time.
Only gripe was nothing to do with the site. We thought the buses were a bit pricey (£8 for 2 returns to Devizes 5 minutes up the road)although we don't travel much by bus usually so maybe it's a general thing! And the prices are going up next week! Don't let it put you off though!

Visited this site for the first time after reading reviews and was prepared for a poor reception. This was not the case, entirely opposite in fact.
Once booked in, the warden took us down to the pitch, gave us all relevent information regarding the site and helped with unhitching and pitching up.
The site is well maintained, the toilets very clean, the 'three magpies' pub was great, even had entertainment on friday and saturday. Lots of walks from the site including along the canal to devizes with a lovely cafe 3/4 of the way,(catch the bus back).
When speaking to the warden I found that he had only been in post for five weeks which would explain the change in attitude, he came from Windermere.
To conclude, I would say that this is a very good site, which I am sure, will become an excellent site.

We had a three night stay at this site at the end of October. We arrived on Thursday, and received the normal greeting from the HSA. Her husband pointed us in the direction of our pitch, and we were left to our own devises. The hardstanding we had been allocated was long and narrow, and although big enough for our twin axle caravan and porch awning, the pitch was not big enough to take the car as well. Having had negative reactions from HSM's when, previously parking on grass, we had to return to the reception to ask if it was OK to park on there, it was! In this instance it would have been useful if the HSA could have accompanied us to the pitch, to answer our questions.
On first impression the site appeared to be rather untidy, but considering the time of year maybe 'well used' would be more appropriate. The roads between the pitching areas had a few pot holes, but nothing major.
The service areas nearby, did not have bins, again, we had to return to the reception to ask where to put the rubbish. We were told the site was totally into recycling and the point was just inside the main entrance. Again, it was a pity we could not have been told when we arrived! We were slightly annoyed by campers who were taking short cuts through fences, and across other pitches, to get to the toilet block!
The site itself sits beside the canal, and the town of Devizes is just four miles away, where there is good shopping facilites. Although we were unable to do much exploring, there appears to be lots to do in the area.
We would use this site again, it was lovely to watch the rabbits playing on the grass!

We arrived at the site on 11th August 2007, first impressions were very pretty and clean and tidy. Pitch was lovely and flat and plenty of space to put our Pathfinder and daytent up.
The staff are very nice and friendly very helpful.
The toilet block was a hop skip and a jump from our tent but where ever you were it wasn't very far to go anyway.
Very very clean and modern inside and approxamately 4 showers(power ones too). Laundry facilities too.
There is a canal near-by and a pub at the entrance to the campsite. Only about ten minutes drive into devizes where you will find your usual shops and also all the big supermarkets as well. If you turn left in the opposite direction you can go to Trowbridge where you will find a huge Tesco and drive around the corner and go in the underground carpark to Asda where just like magic a whole shopping town appears because you would'nt even know it was there. The journey is about ten miles. Yes I would recommend this site wanted to stay longer. Very nice and relaxing.

We loved this site and being a C&CC the facilities were as you would expect-very nice and well lit if you needed to make a visit during the night!
The managers and their staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. There is a small shop in reception where you can buy barbecue packs of meat from the freezer also a freezing facility at 40p a block and refundable deposit of £1.
There is a playground and a larger recreation field which also contained a nature walk in miniature called the Beetle drive-my daughter insisted it was her secret garden.!
Nearest shops were in either direction Melksham or Devizes. If you love shopping then visit Trowbridge-shopping paradise.
Do take a walk along the towpath to Devizes past the 29 locks very pretty ,but I pity the people on the canal boats -keeps them fit though!.
At the side of the canal in Devizes is a lovely family pub called The Black Horse.Good food and reasonable prices.
Most places of interest are within easy reach by car but you can buy a bus rover ticket for £6.20 on the bus but I would recommend a timetable. You can get a wealth of information from the locals! I would recommend this site what ever type of unit you stay in.

A really nice site in beautiful surroundings with plenty to do nearby. The pub next door is adequate for food and there are a couple of good pubs in Seend - about 2 miles walk along the canal path. There are lots of attractions nearby - Longleat, Avebury, Stonehenge, Bath and Devises are all easy drives away. Unfortunately our visit was marred by exceptionally rude and unfriendly wardens on our arrival which is unusual for a CC site. I thought we had just caught them at a bad time but when most of the conversations overheard in the washing and laundry block involve how unpleasant the staff are you know there is a problem.

We have just come back from 5 nights here. It is a wonderful site. The toilet / shower block is the best we have ever known. Spacious cubicles for both the showers and the washbasins. Dish washing area is excellent and fully enclosed. Chemical disposal area is one of the best we have seen, you don't have to empty your cassettes in full view of everyone else waiting in the queue! The pitches are well spaced and large with individual electric hook up. The children's play area is spacious. There is loads to do in the area - visit Caen Hill Locks, Longleat, Bath or Marlborough. Devizes is a lovely town within a 10 minute drive and has a Marks and Spencer's Food Hall (godsend!) We recommended this site, especially if you are in anyway particular. We will definitely be returning.

Found this C&CC site by searching on this website. We found that the previous reviews were correct when saying the toilet facilities were Immaculate and well situated. We found all of the staff friendly and helpful at all times. The pitch we were allocated was well maintained and shaded by hedges on three sides. It rained all weekend and the site showed no sign of becoming waterlogged. The nearest shops were up the road in Seend probably a 15min walk but only a small shop and not open all day alternatively drive to Devizes where there are all the shops you will need. We found the neighbouring pub the 3 magpies full in the evenings and difficult get get a seat inside. But a 30min dawdle west along the canal towpath you get to the Barge Inn which is very pleasant, and the food fantastic. Well worth a visit. We also drove east and visited Cains Hill Locks also a nice walk. Longlete is also worth a visit and not far to drive to. Good for Big and Little Kids alike. The white Horse and Bratton camp area was also close by with amazing views.

We arrived at 12pm - the normal time for arrival at Camping and Caravanning Club sites, but we were told by the wardens that they were two people short and had still not finished cleaning the toilet block - therefore, would not allow us on site until 12.30/1pm at the earliest. We were told that we could not wait as there was no place to park and we would have to drive around for half an hour until they would check us in. They were very blunt, waving their hands about and it was not a nice welcome at all. They said 'well if you want nice clean loos you'll have to come back later'. If we'd known another site nearby, we would not have bothered returning. Site itself was ok, toilet block was clean, pitches were flat and spacious. Nothing to do on site, other than a small kiddies play area - but the nearby pub is great with a lovely beer garden/kids play area and their welcome is wonderful!

Nice site, shame about the wardens. The site is a good location, close to the Kennet & Avon canal, close to the Three Magpies pub. Loos are clean. My brother and his family were coming to visit us so wanted to camp for one night, but the wardens said the site was full. We walked round the camping field and it was two thirds full at most. So our visitors came for the day instead and got turned away by the wardens who wouldn't let them park on site. Until I made a fuss then miraculously they found room. This stay has convinced me that I won't be renewing my club membership.
