This was my families first camping trip ane we LOVED IT!
We chose this site as it allowed our dog and we could hae campfires.
When we arrived the owner was there to greet us, showed us our pitches, which were in the 'orchard' we had ample space.
The poachers pocket was just 1 min away from the entrance of the site if that, a friendly and pleasant pub, slightly overpriced but very happy to please.
Saxmundham was the closest town to us with a tesco's and a waitrose I only used the tesco's which was clean and basic. There were a couple of little shops one that sold a limited range of outdoor toys, a fishing shop hidden round the back, and a bakers, with some very yummy treats.
There is also a small museum that we visited it only takes about 30mins (not including film) its worth a visit if you are interested in a little local history.
We also found the local adventure playground(we spent over an hour there), suggested by the owner, using his directions that were good, was like a mini adventure in itself, and the children loved it.
We fished on site, and caught lots of fish, which kept the children interested and rates were fair.
We used the swimming pool on site where visitors get its sole use, which was extra but reasonable.
There was a little unmanned shop(if you can call it that) with extras like drinks, cereal, marshmallows, firewood etc.
Like others have mentioned the toiled and shower facilities were lacking, but that was the only thing that let Mill Farm down.
The owner also took our 9 year old daughter to play a game and make friends with the children on site, and we lost her every evening after that. (it was great to see her have fun)
YES we would visit again!

We had a great week's stay at this campsite in August 2013. Ray, the owner, is fab - chatty, friendly, helpful. Upon arrival he took us all round the site pointing out possible pitches, greeting most of his campers by name, and eventually settled on a pitch for us next to a lovely family who he thought we'd get on with. He was right. Their children took to my little girl (age 2) immediately and played with her. The parents were lovely. We were in a huge field with only the two families/groups pitched up and so had loads of space and quiet.
The site itself has a lovely pond, a 'games room' which could do with some TLC but that the older kids seemed to love, a little tuck shop operated on an honesty basis and a 'swimming pool' which is a large inflatable pool kept in a polytunnel type structure. While the water in the pool was refreshing the air around it was sub-tropical! Ray hires this to a family at a time meaning you have it all to yourself for a few quid. It was great fun.
We were well located for exploring the local area (Saxmundham, Aldeburgh, Walberswick -great for crabbing, and Southwold were all a short drive away). Ray was full of suggestions and ideas for things you could do on the holiday. You can even walk to the nearest supermarket across the fields although it's a fair walk. There is also a pub right at the entrance of the site that does food.
The downsides of the site were the state of the facilities. The showers and toilets were clean, but pretty basic and in places could use some TLC. If you like a more luxurious camping experience this probably isn't the site for you. But if, like us, you want a friendly, relaxed site, with spacious pitches and a campfire every night and don't mind more basic faciities then this site could be just what you're looking for.

So, wanting to venture a little further than sunny Essex myself the wife and sprogs headed to Mill Farm for a couple of nights.
On arrival we met The owner and was impressed with his pleasant manner and laid back attitude. The owner took time to show us around the site and gave us a choice of pitches. We picked a pitch close to the fishing pond and I was immediately impressed with the space we had between us and the neighbours.
My sprogs immediately went and had a butchers around the site which had lots of space and plenty of dens to explore.
We also had a few hours fishing on the pond which is only small but full of little roach which you could catch one a cast. If you fished slightly bigger baits you could get through to the small carp that were in abundance.
Now I aint one to moan (well not much) but the showers and toilets weren't really up to much. I appreciate that when camping these things aren't massively important but they were, shall we say, a bit knackered!
There was always plenty of hot water but the shower I used kept getting bunged up and there was dirty water everywhere.
However, all in all I thought it was a great little site. The owner was always about if you had any problems and we all had a great stay.
Thorpness is a few miles down the road with a lovely stony beach and a great boating lake. Aldeburgh is also well worth a visit with its quaint town and superb fish and chips.
If this site had decent showers and toilets it would just about be perfect. Give it a look!

We have just returned from a week's camping at Mill Farm.
Positives are: huge pitches, lots of privacy, owner very friendly, large field for dog walking, beautiful setting with fishing lake which my husband spent a few hours using and the catching was frequent - ideal for children. The Poacher's Pocket Pub is approx 3 minutes walk from the site and they do nice food and are very friendly.
Saxmundham offers a Tesco & Waitrose and beaches at Southwold & Aldeburgh are beautiful.
There are unfortunately a few things which let this site down - mainly poor facilities. Dirty toilets, no soap by sinks, hand towel for drying and poor washing up facilities - crack in sink and dirty drainage boards. We ended up doing our washing up by our tent. It said that toilet facilities have been improved in 2013 - this was not apparent. There were three showers available - on two occasions they were unusable due to poor maintenance and/or water problems. There was a huge play area/games room for older kids which would be great but the whole site was really messy and untidy.
There was some road noise from the A12 but not a major issue.
Would I return here - only if the facilities were greatly improved and the site tidied up.

Hidden Gem !
Been to Mill Farm 4 times this year, wouldn't go anywhere other than here when visiting Suffolk.
The Pitches are large and even when the site is full you never feel short of space or cramped, electric available on most pitches and even when a new spot is requested the owner does everything possible to hook you up with an arm full of extension cables !
Nothing is too much trouble and the owner is always trying hard to make sure that every visitor is completely satisfied, in my experience any small problem is soon rectified but you must speak to the owner first, there is no point complaining about something he does not know about.
Friendly atmosphere and lovely site with a relaxed atmosphere, does get busy at peak times as does everywhere and this should be remembered when reviewing toilets and other facilities. Other visitors may not leave the shower as you would expect to find it ! The owner and his staff cannot clean behind everyone.
Plenty of facilities for kids and they are free to run about and let off steam not something that would be allowed on many other sites visited.
Poachers Pocket, the pub opposite is excellent, superb pub food and beer is the best local brews. Very friendly and accommodating.
Fishing Lake, fridge, electric hook ups, swimming pool, large open areas, honesty box supplies, showers, toilets, recycling point, kids indoor entertainment area, lovely dog walks are just a few of the facilities available.

For several years now we have been staying at Mill farm during the summer months because it suits our way of caravanning. We like the peace, the quirky feel of the site, the friendliness of the owner, and the sense of being in a time gone by. Also one is within easy reach of some delightful Suffolk villages, we generally visit these places in the morning, then have a beer or a meal in The Poachers Pocket, afterwards relax on the site, maybe have a barbecue too. Some may want more hi-tech facilities, but we feel this site meets our needs. We shower, wash our dishes, with no problems. There are two delightful lakes, and although I am not a fisherman I have spent some happy times chatting with the anglers, and they appear to love it. There is an excellent hostelry just outside the gates, a proper country pub, not owned by a chain, but run by real people who make you welcome. In this age where everything has to be so plastic and automated I feel so grateful that places like Mill Farm still exist

This is my first every review of anything, however I wanted to post one for this camp site.
I read the reviews, and they sounded very good, so solely based on this, we went up there for a weekend. We were 2 adults and 3 kids camping in a large tent.
As it turns out the reviews were spot on. The owner is one of the friendliest people you could meet, and nothing is too much trouble. He even delivers your wood to your pitch every evening for the campfire.
The pitches are extremely large so there is plenty of space for the kids to run around and make noise. Our children had a fabulous time riding their bikes around and the whole place had a very friendly atmosphere.
It is true that the showers and toilets are fairly basic, however if you are after some traditional camping, I would definitely recommend this camp site. If your after glamping or bar facilities where you can watch the sport on a flat screen TV, then it may not be for you.
We will definitely be going back.

Went to Mill Farm for a long weekend and also some friends of ours in their caravan joined us.
As in previous reviews, all very laid back and loads of space. Would like to have seen this site in the Summer as there is loads of space for families. We chose to go on a very wet weekend where it rained solidly for 24 hours so consequently, the site got a bit waterlogged. (Thank goodness for 4x4s!)
We chose this site particularly because of the firepits. We have found at other sites, that its lovely to have in the evening to sit around and enjoy the open air. We did get one evening in. They charge a modest price for bags of wood and sticks which he delivers to your pitch in his jeep.
Some of our party enjoyed dabbling with their fishing rods in the pretty pond which was right outside our pitch.
As in other reviews, its nice to see he has an honesty box for purchasing the few bits and pieces he has for sale including eggs.
As the weather was sooo bad, we went to the local pub, The Poachers Pocket, a couple of times. It is literally just by the entrance to the site. We found the food good and the people who run it, very pleasant and as laid back as the owner himself! Very welcoming and didn't mind a small child and a dog and 8 adults descending on them for Sat lunch!
I hope they wont be offended by my last comment but the facilities did leave a little to be desired not least the chemical waste disposal which was very basic and I couldn't work out at all how to get water to rinse my toilet out. There was a sign but the hosepipe wasn't attached to anything!
A small thing I know but one you do expect.
Again, as with previous reviews, you can hear the A12 traffic in the distance, so if you want total peace and quiet, this may not be for you.
All in all, a lovely site and if I was back in this area, I would definitely stay here again.

We visited this site over the august bank holiday with our three boys and our dog and all I can say it that it was the perfect holiday for them!
Pitches really are huge and there is so much room around you, none of this cramming tents in!
The kids had so much freedom and fun with the owner going above and beyond to entertain them, with football matches, jeep rides and kids cocktails in the games room with his own three boys.
In a completely positive way, we felt like we had gone back 20 years, there was an honesty box for snacks and charges for food, drinks and the pool were very reasonable indeed. With treehouses and rope swings the kids were able to have fun without the usual constraints we have these days of the dreaded 'health and safety' - how refreshing!
Showers were basic but the water was always lovely and hot, and regularly mopped.
We had a nice meal at the local pub which is right by the entrance to the site.
We loved being able to have fires in the evening, we've been camping for years and never been able to do this before.
This site is camping as it should be and won't suit those expecting neatly trimmed grass and posh showers and clubhouse (but hey we are camping remember!). But if you want a site to wind down in, where the kids can have a blast and the owner is super friendly and goes out of his way to make sure you have what you need, then you won't be disappointed. We will certainly be returning!

We stayed at Mill Farm for 8 days at the beginning of August and having read the other reviews on this site felt we should have our say.
Mill Farm is a great campsite, the owner Ray doesn't believe in packing people in and has a number of well-maintained fields to choose from, at the busiest point of our stay we were one of four tents in our field which gave the kids loads of room to play and certainly came as a refreshing change from the norm.
The fishing lake is well stocked and bigger than most that we have seen on previous sites.
The games room was certainly well-used by our children and lots of effort was put in to making sure the kids were happy with various events laid on for them (disco, pool competitions, Non-alcoholic cocktail night)
The local pub is a stones throw away and serves good food, beer and chat, not a fruit machine or quiz machine in sight which was nice.
There are plenty of local amenities in Saxmundham for every need you may have.
Showers/toilets: I have seen better but then again I have also seen much worse. I managed to have a shower every day without having to queue once and the water was nice and hot. There was a smell around the toilet area when we first arrived but it was soon fixed. The people who are leaving reviews about spiders and webs in the toilets obviously don't go camping very much or have very high expectations.
The swimming pool is a nice touch, it's a large inflatable which you book for a very reasonable price (just enough to cover the cost of the chemicals) and you then have it to yourself for as long as you like and it's lovely and warm due to it being sited in a large greenhouse.
As mentioned in previous reviews one of the main attractions of this site is the owner. You would be hard-pressed to find a nicer guy and he spends most of his days bending over backwards to make sure everyone on site is happy. When he did get some time to relax he could usually be found entertaining guests in the games room with wine-tasting nights.
We will definitely be returning to Mill Farm, it's a great site
