We have just returned from 2 nights at High Straggleton. The field we were in was relatively flat but did see another field with tents in that was had quire a slope.

The owners were very nice and helpful.

The toilets were always available even though the site was very busy (3 in the gents and ladies). The showers were free, nice and warm and worth the wait of 5 minutes or so.

The biggest issue we had was the strength of the winds; it was touch and go at times whether our tent would survive. Ours did, but others didn't, we saw 2 that had been destroyed and others had packed up and gone not willing to take the risk!

Had it not have been for this we would definitely go again, but I must admit that we would be a little apprehensive which is a shame as there are great views and it is in a great location for Whitby and Sandsend.

 We visited last weekend 2 adults 1 child,had a

Great time.Shower and toilet blocks were spotless and cleaned regular.

Dish washing facilities ongoing progress. Only had a short walk on to sandsend beach which you can walk straight up into whitby only takes 20/30 mins max.Buses come every half hour if you don't want to walk.

Overall we had a great time and would definitely go back.Everyone was very friendly and a nice quite camp. You also get to choose your pitch we had a lovely sea view what more do you want on a lovely morning.

Overall 10/10 great.

Well, what can I say that hasn't already been said. Helpful and friendly owner, fantastic views of the sea and Whitby abbey from the tent, clean toilet and shower facilities and lots to see and do nearby.

Our only problem was a major one ie our tent couldn't cope with the wind and broke - but obviously not the site's fault.

Will be back hopefully. You can park in Whitby at the co op on a sliding scale eg spend £10 an hours free parking (not sure of exact amounts).

Staithes nearby is well worth a visit.

Beautiful and simple farm site. Slightly sloping field all with electric hook ups at amazingly good value @£12.50 per night for 2 adults and 3 children with electric.

Showers and toilets in clean warm porta cabins, love the idea of family bathrooms with 2 shower cubicles and toilet and basin in each. Derek, the farmer cannot do enough for you, the only thing that lets the site down slightly is the lack of washing up facilities, but I know Derek said the site is ' a work in progress' so this may well be in his plans, will be returning without a doubt.

Well worth visiting the Beehive Inn in Newholme, fabulous host and meal 5* for both.

Had a great time all on the farm very helpful. Derek very good helps you set up and tells you were everything is. Been there a few times going again very soon, very clean and tidy very good value for money. No time restrictions you can get there what time of the day you want and leave when you want, this is great because you can miss all the traffic on the roads by leaving later. They have static caravans that look very nice we are going to try them at the end of the season. The walk to whitby is great dose not take very long

We stayed here in our campervan for 2 nights over the bank holiday weekend.

On arrival at the large farm house we had a warm welcome and asked if we would prefer the field next to the house or the bottom field with a sea view. Obviously we selected the sea view and what a view it was, we got in right at the bottom next to the fence overlooking the next field, golf course, beautiful views of the ocean and passing ships.

The only issue with been right at the bottom is it is a bit of a trek to the toilet block behind the house. However, given the view it was well worth it.

The toilet block was warm and clean even with been a bank holiday weekend we didn't have any issues.

There was a shower block but we did not use this so can not comment

We could not find a kids play area as advertise on here but noticed it is not advertised on their website.

In summary a good site at great value.

If we are ever back up the east coast we would not hesitate to stay here.

Highly recommended.

What a great place to stay!

From booking through to the fairwell we were treated with such kindness and nothing was too much trouble to the owners.

The overall experience was a joy and value for money was fantastic, but don't expect any frills from this working farm based site, as you only get the basics, ie: no laundry or playground, however if you're really cheeky you might sneak to the adjacent site to use theirs!

You will find the shower and toilet portable cabins clean and functional, the sea views stunning, and the pitches large and comfortable.

Would we stay here again? Too right we would, in fact we will be back the first chance we get.

After a long trek on foot from Redcar to Whitby I received a friendly greeting at the farm by one of the owners, and was shown to the camping field.

The campsite is set back from the coast road between Sandsend and Whitby, opposite the golf club, and is only a short walk (3 miles from campsite to the Shambles pub) or taxi ride outside Whitby town centre.

Its worth noting that this campsite is the only campsite in the area that accepts tents. (There is a campsite on Church Street in the town centre that accepts tents but they do not accept all male groups, even if the total number of people in the group is 1.

The toilets and showers are basic portable cabins but are clean and more than adequate for an extended stay (this is coming from someone who likes camping with no facilities).

The price of the pitches is very reasonable given the touristy nature of the area, I think I paid £7 a night. The camping field is well maintained and although it slopes slightly it was more than comfortable.

The campsite also offers a spectacular view of the sunrise!

The campsite met all my needs perfectly and I will be staying at the site again in the not too distant future.

This was our 2nd visit of this year, think we have been to Whitby 4 times in total over the last 3 years and have never once considered staying anywhere other than Dereck's farm.

The views are amazing, the relaxed atmosphere is great, there are no restrictions that we know off and again Derek and his family have to be the most welcoming and pleasant people you could wish to meet, come rain or shine and it seems no matter what time of day or night, nothing is ever too much trouble.

The showers and toilet facilities are kept lovely and clean, its nice to hear from other reviews that washing facilities are being put into place.

If you only require a field with basic facilities to have a brilliant holiday. Then this is the place to go to again and again.

What a brilliant site. Great value and the farmer was great, couldn't be more helpful.

Basic but clean facilities but that's how we prefer to camp! Loads of room for children to play and we certainly weren't squashed in. The field we were in was a little windy but the view was gorgeous (there was another field that looked more sheltered).

We didn't use our van all week, instead preferring to walk to the beach (about 15 mins) Whitby (45mins) and Sandsend (30mins). All in all great, hope to return!
