We visited this site in June and what a find it was as this was only our second camping trip we did not know what to expect but we will definitely be going back and soon.

We were met on arrival by a friendly gentleman giving us all the information we needed. The shower blocks and toilets very clean at all times as was the pot washing facilities.

The site is situated approximately half way between Whitby and Sandsend and we managed to walk easily to both resorts.

We had a fantastic two days with glorious sunshine superb views and peace and quiet looking forward to the next trip.

We visited this site after viewing the glowing recommendations made on this website. What a disappointment. Granted it was a special Bank Holiday this year, however, this site was seriously oversubscribed for the very limited resources that were available, ie toilet, showers, etc. It began with the very narrow lane leading to a potholed, mud covered entrance way. It was very steep and difficult to negotiate with a caravan. We were positioned on the lower field which gradually filled to over-capacity over the weekend, this continued well into the evening. The facilities were clean but over used. We quickly worked out that if we needed to shower we had to do this by cutting short our leisure time away from the site. On the plus side the price was cheap at £15 including EHU and the view was briefly stunning before another motorhome was shoehorned in next to us. We will not be returning!

Stayed here over Easter weekend and we find it excellent value for money £15 per night with ehu.

Three large fields to camp we tend to use field with toilet block although this is on a slight slope.

Queues did form over bank hol weekend but we always manged to get a shower eventually.

Site is on back of working farm and you do get the smell from the animals but views from site are beautiful.

Not far to walk into Sandsend or whitby but there is a bus stops on main road if needed.

We usually eat in white house pub and food is always excellent.

We did try Raithwaite Hall this visit and although food was excellent portions very tiny.

If generous portions and quality food with a friendly welcome your after try the Bee hive pub twenty mins walk from site in newholme, would recommend the fish or steak pie both excellent.

We have stayed at this site four times due to its location to whitby and we will definitely will be using it again and I would say give it a try.

I have stayed at all the sites in the Whitby area, some are good some are not so good. One or two are outstanding, and High Straggleton is definitely one of them.

I originally booked using the message service on this site. The site owners were quick to answer and took our booking immediately. We did not have to pay a deposit, we were just told to pay when we got there.

The road on which the farm is situated is a single lane road with passing places, so if you are towing, be prepared. You may need to back up. The actual track into the farm is also quite steep.

On arrival, we just pick our pitch and began to settle in. However, as soon as we had pitched, a nightmare freak gale - that hadn't been forecast - started to blow. Within around ten to fifteen minutes our puny Vango tent was in shreds and I was suffering from hypothermia.

The owner immediately to the rescue, and put us in one of his static caravans. We were eternally grateful for this, because our way back to Leeds was blocked by seven foot snowdrifts.

The owner, his sons and the farm workers then set to work helping campers and caravanners to get their tents and awnings down as quickly as possible.

The following morning, we realised just how lucky we had been. There wasn't a camper anywhere in a ten mile radius that hadn't had to abandon their tents or taken serious steps to secure them.

WE were then offered the static caravan for the following five days just for the price of a tent!

We had a really good look around the site. The toilets and showers are very clean and seemed to be more than adequate once the site filled up for the Easter weekend.

I would recommend this site to anyone. The facilities are fantastic, the owners are everything you want on a site (they are seasoned campers themselves, so they know what we want)

There is a Cost Cutter shop within a ten minute walk, and Whitby is just a five minute drive away.

The fees are more than reasonable. Tent with hookup was £15. 00 per night, dogs are free.

Finally, the views from this site are to die for. It's one of those places where you find yourself just sat there, gazing out to sea.

This was our first visit to this site and we will certainly be back. We stayed for 3 nights over the Easter period. The road up to the site is very narrow with a sharp left turn up a steep bank to get on site but even in a 24ft motorhome it is no problem.

The site is on a working dairy farm with 3 large fields available. Sea views were amazing! We had a choice of pitches with EHU - no hardstandings though, all on grass.

Facilities were basic but clean with plenty of hot water. As well as a toilet block there are 2 family shower rooms, both with a toilet and 2 showers and a great drying area. Ideal if you have children.

It is a 15 minute walk down the bank to the beach from where you could walk along to either Whitby or Sandsend (both ways about 30 - 40 mins). If the tide is in there is a coastal path to Whitby but you would need to walk along the path by the road to get to Sandsend. We did both and our dogs loved it!

The owners are very friendly and extremely helpful.

The site got very busy over the weekend but time your shower right and you don't have a problem.

There is no children's play area but there is plenty of space for them to run around in and of course the beach is just down the bank!

For us it is just less than an hour away from home but we don't understand why we haven't been here before. It's a wonderful site with fantastic views and walks and is very reasonably priced. We will certainly be back again and again and again!

Just spent 4 days here and they were wonderful.

The views are amazing looking out over the sea. The only problem with the location are the narrow road approaching the site and the steep entrance. I believe that the owner has plans to widen the entrance track.

We did not see a play area but there were a number of grass areas where you could play. The toilets were clean even at the weekend when the numbers of visitors increased.

Easy access to the beach and certainly walk-able to Whitby.

Closest shop was 1 Mile along the mail road but sold most stuff.

Will definitely plan on going back again.

Situated between Sandsend & Whitby (easy walk to Sandsend)

Took the Mrs camping for the first ever time & we were booked in for 3days and nights(9th-12) with Elec Hookup. (paid by cheque. £37. 50 very reasonable price) What can I say. WOW.

We took the Atakama 5 tent and were half way up a banked field & it had a great view. The farmer Derek was awesome and was very helpful (we forgot our hookup and he had a spare one we could use)

Toilets were clean and tidy showers were in a spotless condition and well maintained. He is currently adding facilities for washing dishes(has the shed for it ready & itl probably be ready for spring/summer 2012)

The space on the site was very good and pitch sizes werent restricted as long as you left reasonable room between you and whoever else & although open fires were allowed we didn't need one.

There was 3 other groups there while we were there and 1 of them had 2 kids and they just played happily (no play area for them but field gave them plenty of amusement)

For our 1st trip it was very good. (cant give rating for kids Because we have none)

Helpful Tips.

Put your tent against the top hedge on top field to help with wind.

The switch for the toilets is 4 inches long on a cord so look above the inside of the main door on the right (much amusement when everyone on site found it)

Probably smart to point you tent down the hill along with your air bed (we learned this mistake)

Oh. And when you come off the side road on to the track into the farm. If your in an old car. Make sure your in 2nd gear because its quite steep.

My family have stayed on this site 2. 5 years ago and thought then that it is a fab site.

The facilities were very basic first time we went, since then they have put another toilet block in and putting the finishing touches to a pot washing place. Its still a quiet site which is good and your fellow campers seem to respect everyone else on the site in the early mornings/late nights.

This time we thought why hadn't we been back sooner. The amount you pay for a night is nothing compared to the view you receive once you have pitched and sat. It is literally a room with a view, all you see from left to right is sea. Just before the sea is a lovely looking golf course.

Its a working farm which we see cows coming into the barn twice a day for milking and at night we have the treat of cows crunching grass in the next field while we are sleeping. The family who run the site are very friendly, helpful even though they are busy with the farm.

Its definitely a campsite I would recommend to anyone and will no doubt be back again, again and again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay here, with 4 young children it was ideal they were able to play in the tent field and watch the cows grazing in the field nearby.

The toilets and shower block was very clean and well light, the washing up block is still work in progress but this looks as though it is going to be an ideal place to wash up.

It is an ideal base to explore Whitby, robin Hoods Bay, and all other coastal areas of North Yorkshire. We will be visiting again and would highly recommend.

We camped for a weekend at High Straggleton Farm and thought it was a great campsite.

There was no limits on your pitch size as long as you were 6m from the next tent. We stayed in the top field where the toilets and showers are located and it was a bit slopped but we didn't mind.

The other campers seemed nice and the kids just played all day long. It is only a short distance from both Whitby and Sandsend so you can venture out to the beach or for fish and chips if you like.

It was such a relaxing place, we will definitely go again. It was only £10 a night, £12. 50 with EHU. Fab.
