Just returned from a fantastic week at high Straggleton farm. This is our second stay here and we hope it is still open next year for us to return. We camped in the top tent field which is slightly sloped but didn't bother us. You are pretty much allowed to pitch up where you want which we prefer to marked out pitches and there are plenty of ehu. Facilities are basic but were fine for us, 3 each of ladies and gents toilets and 2 shower rooms with 2 separate showers in each. The site is a great base only a 15-20 min walk to sandsend beach where there are toilets and cafes or you could go to the beach across from the campsite which is about a 10 min walk. Whitby took us about 45mins. There is also a Lidl just around the corner about 5 mins in car. We were a family group ranging from age 2 to 65 its great for the kids to just run around. We used the snap wagon which is new, lovely ladies run it and great food at cheap prices.
My only criticism is the old bits of toilet and rubbish outside the shower block could do with tidying up.

This is a working farm, and the farmer and his workers were very friendly and helpful, we stayed from monday to friday had a sea view and the weather was great, plenty of space. Whitby is only 2 miles away and Sandsend 1 mile, beach is a 10 minute walk. Prices are great too £16. 50 including electric hookup or just £13 without, no charge for awnings or dogs. Toilets and free showers were spotless, there's also a pot wash and free use of washing machine and dryers, would highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning.

I began taking my caravan to High Straggleton Farm since the Spring of 2004, when it wasn't as well known. When I visited in 2004, 2005 and 2006, there were only around ten or so vans on the field, but as time has gone on, it seems that the site has become more and more popular and with very good reason.
The view from the caravan field at High Straggleton is breathtaking and takes in the North Sea and the cliffs at Sandsend. A short walk - ten minutes or so - will take you down through the fields to the beach, and both Sandsend and the nearest Cost Cutter are just ten minutes away on foot or two minutes by car. The area is quiet, peaceful and full of wildlife. A walk of twenty minutes or so will find you in the centre of Whitby, and there is easy access over the road to the Cleveland Way.
The site facilities, which were very basic back in the day are now fabulous. There are free washers and driers, lockable mobile charging safes (if you're in a tent that is - £5. 00 returnable deposit), two family shower blocks (toilet and two showers - FREE!), washing up facilities and a porta-cabin containing several showers (20p for a long hot shower).
The owners - Derek and Maxine are dairy farmers and thoroughly nice people. You won't find a more helpful person on any other site than Derek who always has time for a chat and never seems to sleep. The warden, Ian, and his wife Val are also really nice and are on hand to help out with setting up and showing you around the facilities.
This site has no fancy flower-beds and such-like, it is a dairy farm first and foremost so if you don't like the 'real' countryside and you're looking for 5 star Hard-standing serviced pitches, this site isn't for you. However, if you're not a fussy person and like an easy going, clean and well run site with relaxed rules and friendly hosts, you'll love it.
The cost, £16. 50 per night is based a on a caravan with two adults with hookup. Anything else, dogs, children, awnings, vehicles are allowed on at no extra charge. The value for money is, and always has been outstanding.
It's also worth mentioning that the nights at High Straggleton are very peaceful. Derek asks that all noise be kept to a minimum from 10pm onwards and that visitors have respect for other people's peace and privacy.
All in all, this site is marvellous and has everything that any caravanner could want. I can't see myself venturing anywhere else now.

We arrived at this site on Good Friday quite late on. We initially booked one night but ended up staying three nights.
When we rang up to book (only 15 minutes before arriving) we were told that it’s a working farm and we were fine with this. When other sites are full, this site may be a good option. Owners were pleasant and helpful.
It was much bigger than we expected, with no marked pitches. You are shown where to pitch and have plenty of room.
Views are really good or really bad depending on where you look. There is a nice sea view to one side but parts of the site do need tidying up and look like a building site. To be fair we were told it’s a working farm and also a case of work in progress. Personally I prefer this type of camping rather than a “Toytown” CC site that are too pristine and neat.
Cost is very reasonable. We paid £13 a night for 2 adults and a dog in a motorhome without electric. Plenty of EHU available for those that want it.
Location was fantastic for us. Sandsend (a very small seaside resort) is just under a mile away where there are pubs, beach, shops etc. Whitby centre is 1. 9 miles away. The number 4 bus stops just outside the site and whilst we were there runs every 30 minutes and goes along the coast. We enjoyed walking around here, taking the bus to Runswick bay and walking back along the Beach/ Cleveland way.
Toilets and showers were ok, clean enough and no complaints here. Plenty of bins and water points. No rules other than common sense, just the way we like it.
TV reception is good as is phone signal. We had almost full bars and 3G on Three and O2, sometimes a scarce commodity in this neck of the woods.
Overall a very enjoyable stay at a reasonable cost.

My family and I stay here almost every year. The site is accessed by an extremely steep bank which has more recently been laid with Tarmac, which anyone who has stayed here in previous years can appreciate because prior to this it was a struggle to get up! There are 2 fields for pitching your tent - the front field & the back field. The front field has amazing views of the sea and is quite level and easy to access. The back field is sloped, located around a short winding road behind the farm house but also houses the toilet/shower/wash block so is a good choice for those with young children. The back field can be difficult to navigate in wet weather but as long as your fellow campers are feeling helpful a push up the slope will do it - we pushed 4 cars up during our last stay! The toilets are clean, showers free to use. There is also an area dedicated to caravans and another housing static caravans. The wash block (located on back field) holds a number of sinks, washing machines, dishwashers, microwaves and a dryer. There are also a few lockable mobile phone charging units, the keys for which are held by the site owner. High Straggleton is a working farm so there are tractors moving around the site, people working and animal sounds regularly. The children love watching the cows come in and out of the barn! All staff on site are very friendly and always keen to help. I am not sure where the advertised play area is and I didn't see one during our most recent stay or any year previously so I think it is a mistake. Camp fires are allowed. The rates are cheap and the site is only a stones throw from Whitby. Sandsend is also just a walk away. The Giant Whitby Car Boot Sale is held on a field not far away and is worth a visit on a Sunday. All in all High Straggleton is the perfect site for those not seeking something 'flash' but likes their basic amenities. Thank you HSF, we will continue to visit year after year!

We found this site 3 years ago. A basic site but with all the facilities needed. Derek the owner and his wife Maxine and the warden are always there to help nothing is too much trouble. There's a warm welcome on arrival but no one interferes no rules but there's someone to help if needed. Wonderful views of the sea within walking distance of the beach, good for children and dog walkers. We use our own facilities in our van but there are showers washer and dryer and fridges for campers. Easy access by car or public transport to Whitby or elsewhere. A real gem of a site

We stayed here for four nights and it was a lovely place to stay. We were celebrating a family birthday weekend with the rest of the family in Whitby though we were the only ones camping. They were all kept awake by seagulls in their lovely soft beds. We slept like babies in our beautiful restful campsite!
Facilities are adequate though fairly basic. When we arrived Derek came to cut the clover before we pitched, which gave us dry feet even in the morning. The showers were a little unusual, with two family shower rooms, each containing two showers. This is great when a family want to use them together, but does cause a bottleneck when there are individuals using them.
The toilet block had three loos each for men and women. Soap and paper towels included.
Derek and Maxine are obviously working hard at ongoing improvements. The washing up chalet style shed had microwave, washing machine, three washing up sinks and secure charging safes for all those electronics.
I never asked, but couldn't find any recycling. My only criticism.
We used the bus into Whitby. Every half hour, and quite cheap. We walked back as the last bus is early evening.
I loved the site. My other half felt it was a bit disorganised. I had to search for Ian to pay, but we were out all day every day so it would have been difficult for him to find us.
As to the location. The site is in an idyllic situation with masses to do in the local area for any age. Steam train from Whitby to Pickering. Abbey. Lovely individual shops in town. Harry's bar had great food. Fish and chips. Go Ape in Dalby forest - we did Segway. We could have stayed a fortnight!

On arrival, we weren't entirely sure that we had come to the right place, given that it has the appearance of a slightly derelict building site, strewn with bits of rubble and disused electrical equipment. The owner found us wandering around and came to help us find a suitable pitch and he was very friendly and accommodating.
There are many positive aspects to this site; the location within a pleasant walk to the lovely beach at Sandsend is the primary reason why one would want to stay. The state of the showers is not a reason why one would chose to return, in spite of the fact that the weather was very good and the ground not especially muddy for a farm, the showers were really quite dirty and had the appearance of a facility cleaned very rarely indeed. Other features were very good; free washing machines, for example. Given the nature of some of the demographic who had unfortunately chosen to stay at the same time as us, there was quite a lot of noise at night.

Visited this campsite springbank week, pitched on a field overlooking the sea and golf course, fantastic views. Facilities are basic but clean, six showers in a porto cabin 20 pence for a shower but last quite a long time. There are washing up facilities which also contain washers and driers. Derrick the owner is a fantastic guy so helpful. We arrived at the site minus the plug for the lights on my trailer which must have come out and smashed somewhere along the journey, the next day Derrick turned up with a new plug, probably saving me a fortune driving round trying to find another. The only thing that spoiled the holiday was the weather, it teemed it down but can`t blame the site for that. Derrick even towed my trailer out when we were going home as it got very muddy. As I said the site is quite basic but at less than £16 a night is fantastic value. It`s in a fantastic location for exploring North Yorkshire. Will be going back again.
