Came across the site via UKCampsite.co.uk, after reading a review thought we would give it a try, was a bank holiday weekend the site owner was very helpful, quite hard to find (we googled it first) as there is no sign from the main road and the farm sign up the lane is small and we nearly missed it, access is very thin lane and steep incline onto site, upon arrival we had to phone again(as no one was around (I'm guessing busy due to being a working farm) after a couple of min's warden was over and had us levelled up and hooked up, (we didn't even ask :)) we paid £16 per night which was for 2 adults 3 kids(kids were free), and hook up, although there was very little for kids to do ON site. Even has free washer/dryer/microwaves and 20p for a shower :) AND only 5mins from the beach(walking)and a few min's into Whitby via car, , will defo be back and will certainly recommend to friends and other sites, very good cheap basic site, BUT don't expect the RITZ :)

We were recommended this site by the owners of our normal site in Whitby as they were full. A caravan site with a little advertised camping area, however word of mouth and obvious return visits meant it was still fairly busy. Its definitely a family site and there were loads of children all playing together in the centre of the field.
There was a family shower room which was free of charge. An evidently new facility was the wash up block with its 2 washing machines and tumble drier, and also the facility to freezer ice packs. For thoe with electronic gadgets there were recharging points that were secure (£5. 00 deposit).
To get to and from the site is a regular bus service from Whitby although its only a half hour walk from the town to the site. Many of the local takeaways deliver to High Straggleton as well.
Will we be back. I think so.

I have just spent a week in the 'Country-Style' static caravan at High Straggleton, Whitby Folk Festival week to be exact, and I have already decided to book it for next year too.
The Country-Style caravan is set on its own away from the other fields - the caravan fields, the camping fields and the field with the other statics. Dog-friendly, it is ideal for a couple or a family. It is wonderful to have the luxury of the shower and flush toilet, Freesat TV, a real cooker and a full sized fridge-freezer. It really is luxury compared to my little tourer. You also have the added advantage of your own 'garden', a big field all to yourself.
High Straggleton Farm is situated halfway between Whitby and Sandsend. The site is owned by Derek and Maxine Atkinson, devoted dairy farmers and thoroughly nice people. They can always make time to talk about everything from cows to local history and back again. Derek and Joe, Maxine and Derek's son, are dairy farmers through and through and are always happy to show people around, explain the ins and outs of farming, or - if you prefer - you can go and wander around the farm yourself to see what goes on there. There are cats, cows and chickens on the site and if you love being in a genuine farm environment, this is definitely the place for you. We liked to watch the cows through the kitchen window, coming in to be milked and then going out again.
The site steward, Ian, is such a great help and will bend over backwards to accommodate every visitor whether you are in a static, a tourer or a tent. The welcome that will be extended to you is genuine and is also one of the things that will make you want to keep coming back.
If you like bowling-green lawns, fancy flower beds and 'please-do-not-walk-on-the-grass', this is not the place for you. High Straggleton is dog-friendly (dogs go free!), Kid-friendly (no pompous, silly rules - thus perfect for families) and more importantly, the Atkinsons don't tolerate disruptive behaviour or late night disturbances.
With Whitby a short walk away, the Sandsend beach a short stroll and the nearest shop (cost-cutter) a two minute drive or a ten-minute walk away, it is perfectly situated for anybody.
Finally, if you are a lover of nature, there's nothing more relaxing that watching 20+ swallows skimming across the ground catching insects for their young. You should also watch out for little owls, kestrels and sparrow hawks above the farm, and seals in the bay.

Made a phone call on bank holiday Sunday to stay for the night and this was a shock to say they had a space for my partner and myself to stay with our motorhome for the night. The staff were friendly and helpful and were happy to help. Shower block clean and tidy along with toilets and FREE use of washing machines x 2 and even a tumble dryer! Clean and tidy pot wash areas too.
Views are amazing and a nice steady walk into Whitby town and the beach is spot on.
Would definitely visit this site again (next week).
£15. 50 a night and a real bargain.

Stayed on this site a number of times now. Each stay has been as good as the other. Friendly and peaceful. Toilet block, always kept clean. Showers 20p. Close walk into Sandsend and to the beach. A working farm, staff are always helpful and obliging. Pubs nearby and in walking distance. A supermarket lidl very close to campsite in car. Short walk across field to beach and in to whitby. Time to take your tent down without having to be off site early like some other site departure times.
A very nice place to stay and reasonably priced.

We held a family camping trip for four days the site was packed, far too many units and tents for the very limited facilities if you'd not had a shower by 6·45 you would have to wait for ages. The site has beautiful sea views. The owner is very friendly and helpful and we will use this site again as we love the area, but not at such a busy time as there were so many people jammed in there was no where for children to play

Brilliant place to stay, was very surprised at the facilities, toilet block, always kept sparkling clean, washing up station with multiple sinks, two washing machines, a dryer and very cleverly thought out two microwaves! Safes are also available for you to use to charge mobile phones inside !
The view from our field was amazing straight at the sea, short walk to the beach. Just bear in mind this is still a working farm so it can be a bit noisy and a bit whiffy! But all in all a fabulous place to make base camp and very reasonably priced too. They were also really understanding when our prized pooch managed to escape and go wandering, as all dogs should be kept on lead at all times within the site. I think the only negative is there isn't much for children to do, but we went off site most days so it didn't really make much of a difference.

I came to this rustic camp site a few years ago when there was just a couple of small fields at the back with statics on and a dozen tents on the top field with breathtaking views over to the sea at Sandsend, the owners are always helpful and sorted out the hook up for us. The facilities were small but just about enough and the price was good. Last year we returned and there is a nice new block for washing up and they have added a new shower block. They really could do with some toilets lower down too near the new showers as the original block is quite a trek. Having said all this however we will not be returning as along with the new shower block the site has attracted probably about another 150 tents / motorhomes playing music / screaming kids / barking dogs / strange drunk man playing banjo. Such a shame.

Cheap and cheerful! The people who ran the site were very helpful and the prices were reasonable. The location was very much a working farm (with agricultural equipment etc. Next to the camping/caravan areas - famililes with young children would need to keep a close eye on them) but there were some very friendly farm cats and kittens too. There were sea views and the site was within walking distance (though quite a long walk) of both Sandsend and Whitby. The showers were fine, the toilets and washroom a little small and overstretched for this busy time of year. More bins would also have been good (they were overfull when we arrived) and a better indication of which were recycling/general rubbish bins. A few people seemed to have problems with items left in the communal areas being taken (one lady I spoke to had lost, I think, 6 freezer packs from the freezer)The moral of that story, I suspect, is don't leave things in the communal areas at busy times! But on the whole, good value for money.

Myself and friends have visited this campsite previously and loved it. It is situated within walking distance of both Whitby and Sandsend. It is very basic, with no luxuries, but the incredibly low rates reflect this. When we visited previously all dealing were with the farmers who run the farm (who, by the way, are lovely) but this has now changed and is managed by a man who races around on a snow master. There is now a small building for washing up which includes other amenities such as a microwave which is useful. Unfortunately it seemed to be surrounded by shirtless men keeping an eye on everything, which was a bit unnerving. Because it is not a large campsite, the family next to us were playing rounders and the ball keep hitting out tents, cars, and nearly us a number of times. The campsite should get some industrial wheelie bins as those provided were inadequate and the rubbish just built up in a mountain over our stay, with nobody from the campsite cleaning it up. This used to be our favourite campsite but after my recent visit myself and my friends will not be visiting again, not even with the low prices.
